I'm not sure they'd need a street-accessible "garage" at this stage. They can't be driving their own car out into the world yet, so it would have to be just for other companies' cars to look at. Maybe, I guess.

More likely in my view: those mapping vans WOULD need a garage and repair shop for sure.

They can't even control leaks in the infancy stage of the project and the car doesn't even exist yet! So most likely it will be very difficult. How do you test it in real world conditions?

Thats what they build the new Spaceship Campus for :D

Next, some prototype custom auto parts will be found in the trash, and a few employees will be fired and threatened with lawsuits for leaking car info... not because Apple is developing a car, but because the whole thing is an old British-Intelligence-style disinformation campaign, hiding what those engineers are really working on, maybe in a secret lair deep underground on the opposite side of Silicon Valley, or just an old hut on Moffitt field, and which has nothing to do with building a car.

Maybe it's really Elon's hyperloop prototype... or a new private subway line to link up Apple's campuses... :p

I don't think Apple wants to get in the car building industry, its too volatile. I think they want to get into the car software/interface industry. It's a perfect market for them as most car touch interfaces are terrible.

According to their own search feature, they created their web site on May 4, 2014. Not sure if this means anything in the context of when Apple moved in there. Anyone?

Great!

What I need is a really light car, with no mirrors, a 0.2 Litre engine, and is really thin and expensive...

oh and can I have it in gold please.

Well if it looks anything like that Fiat, then count me out. The last thing I want is a car that looks like a Mini.

Forced?

So Apple has forced engineers to use false names when visiting suppliers? You mean that the engineers have fought with Apple about that?

Isn't it more like the engineers enjoyed a bit of the secrecy they were involved with?

Where does it say they fought with Apple?

A quick bit of research, I came across this interesting connection.

Based on the background image on http://www.sixtyeightresearch.com, we see a black and white photo of a mountainous landscape..

Ansel Adams is a famous photographer who generally snaps black and white photographs of landscape, particularly mountains. He is more famously known for snapping several famous photos of Yosemite. Further, a lot of those famous Yosemite photos were taken in 1968. http://www.metmuseum.org/collection/the-collection-online/search/262578

Even further, here's the image SixtyEight used.. and it was taken by Ansel Adams:

Also, Ansel Adams was a figure in the Apple "Think Different" campaign (mid way down the page):

Here's a quote from the above link: "NeXT’s offices were decorated (expensively) with poster-sized prints from Ansel Adams"

Steve Jobs seemed to be a big fan of Adams:

From the article above, AND referencing the photo SixtyEight used: "Steve Jobs Woodhouse mansion was full of black and white photography of Ansel Adams."

Too ironic to not be affiliated with Apple.

Ah HA!

The whole car thing is a front. I know what they are really doing.

It is said that the "Titan" development building itself is codenamed "SG5."

They're building a StarGate!

Ansel Adams' work is literally everywhere. I know of at least three people that have multiple Adams photographs in their homes. Many people love and use his work without having any clue who he was. It doesn't mean they work for Apple.

Macrumors runs stories from them all the time.

They used to run them more often, but you're right. I searched and found them mentioned a few times per month. I must have somehow just skipped over the sources when skimming the article. The setup for most stories is to talk about the source so I often jump into the meaty bits, and if it looks suspect then I'll check the source.

Huh, I see zero ads.

Found the guy running adblock.

Right, that's why I referred to him as a "famous photographer"
