The Intel announcement came near the end of the quarter so I don't think you will see sales taking that much of a hit especially considering the iMac G5 is still a very popular computer. Just wait until next quarter though. It will get ugly soon.

I hope the go under for switching to Intel. Besides Mac OSX & Windows are the same.

Why would you want a company to go under for making a smart business decision key to the future strategic direction of the company? Would you rather them stay with IBM's go-nowhere roadmap and fail?

As for your OS comment, I don't even know where to begin with that one. Ease of use, responsiveness, no registry, UNIX-based, secure... I could go on for hours on differences as well as pluses and minuses of each system. But I suppose as Mechcozmo's 'tar states, it's best not to feed the trolls.

Is this meant to be starting now? I only ask because I'm a time-zone retard, and I'd hate to be hitting my refresh button for no reason...

OK, just noticed my mistake... see you on the 13th!!

i can't help wonder that Stevie annoucing the Intel thing would obviously affect mac sales for the near future.
why would you shoot yourself in the foot if you didn't ALREADY have things lined up with Intel to take over, SOON.

G5 Powerbook anyone via Intel? like tomorrow the 7th.

And the "expert" speculation begins

Banc of America Securities reiterated a "buy" rating and adjusted estimates on Apple Computer (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ). Banc of America raised Apple's earnings-per-share estimates for 2005 and 2006 to $1.32 and $1.44, respectively, from $1.29 and $1.40. Apple reports fiscal third-quarter earnings on July 13. The research firm forecasts sales 5.4 million iPod units and CPU growth rates of 26% to 28%, respectively, for the fiscal third quarter. "We think this range of results will be good enough to hold the stock or mildly positive." Banc of America believes that demand for the iPod Shuffle has been weak while demand for the iPod mini has shown strength. "We expect a new Shuffle in the next few months, and believe an LCD-based refresh is needed." The research firm said that demand for the iMac has been solid while demand for the Mac mini has been weak. Banc of America has lowered the stock's price target to $43 from $44

An Intel Mac won't arrive until 2006. The earliest would be a release announcement at MWSF in January. I don't really think Apple will use the G5 designation on the PowerBook.

I agree - I think an announcement at MWSF is pushing it, but if one is indeed made, I don't see a shipping date on the actual product for at least 4 months afterwards. Throw in some supply/demand issues as well and it might be more like 6 months.

As this will be the next generation of chips being used in Mac machines, the chances of Apple keeping the "G5" label is essentially zero.

Music accounts for 32% of Apple revenue 3rd quarter. OMG. And 80% market share of music downloads.

I can't get the stream to work...it just shows me a picture of the times it's meant to be on, I press play and it plays for like 2 seconds just showing me the picture...

Numbers are preliminary, but the Macintel announcement doesn't seem to be hurting sales so far.
