I’ve had 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, 6sP, 7P, X, XR, 12PM, 13PM and now 14PM.

I’ve never had any issue besides my iPhone 5 and 12Pm taking slanted photos; immediately replaced both, no wait or loaner.

You had 2 go down in rapid succession, 1 is rare enough; but 2? Maybe it’s the way you’re using them.

Its not. I have used all of my iPhones the same and baby all of them. I always have a case on it and screen protector.

I feel for you, DMG35. Quality control & customer service has really declined in my lifetime - Can’t say that for a great number of other large well known & previously reliable companies though.

I’m a senior citizen, tech-savy Apple user from way back (began using computers when we had only DOS to work with😵‍💫), am fortunate to have had only one bad iPhone, but have had issues lately with several accessories - 2 chargers (MagSafe-will not use ever again - still using Apple 18W - always have a Anker battery pack on hand), leather cases cracking (2). I’m overly careful with my phones - always use case & screen saver - & even put my phone in a padded case when it’s in my purse (yes, I’m an old lady) - I treat them as the expensive products they are.

As for the eSim issue - I refuse to buy another iPhone after the 13 due to the lack of a SIM card slot. It’s OK it if also allows for eSim, but I’ve had friends who have had way too many issues with eSim (I’m with AT&T). I have a 13 Mini, 13 & last year bought from Apple a refurbed 11Pro (I’ve had great luck over the years with their refurbed phones & if you want a backup phone I highly recommend them), all of which I’ll keep & replace batteries as long as Apple provides security updates, so I’ll always have a backup phone . Hopefully, at some point in the future Apple will come to realize they need to put back a SIM card slot & I’ll take a look at a new phone again. Don’t know what I’ll do if I can’t replace battery and/or no longer get security updates.

Glad you finally got your problem resolved. Give some thought to getting a backup phone - these days you never know what can happen - stolen phone, etc. Good luck.

Let me start by saying that I have always loved Apple and have spent thousands of dollars on their products. But I've about had it with the garbage that is the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Two weeks ago mine just all of a sudden wouldn't power on. I was working out at the gym and I felt it get super hot in my pocket and when I took it out it would not power on. I took it to the Apple store, they couldn't fix it and said they had to ship it off. It was a terrible experience at the Apple store, costing me 5 hours of the day dealing with what I think are some very incompetent people working there.

During this time, I had no choice but to buy another 14 Pro Max as I needed a phone and the loaner they gave me was only a 64GB iPhone XR, which wouldn't work for me because I need my phone for work and needed my backup on it, which the loaner iPhone would not work for. Not to mention the loaner battery was at 82% health and barely lasted a few hours, which also wouldn't work for me.

Apple finally contacts me two weeks later and says a replacement phone is being shipped to me and nearly two weeks later I go pick it up.

So my plan was to use the new iPhone and just sell the replacement one that Apple gave me. I even have it listed here in the Marketplace (which I will be removing). I wake up this morning and the new iPhone 14 Pro Max I bought, less than two weeks old, is completely black and won't power on. It was simply sitting on its apple wireless charger last night and at some point in the night went completely dead, again.

So now I have to fire up the replacement phone that Apple gave me. Except now I can't activate it because Apple in their infinite stupidity decided to remove the SIM card. The eSim won't activate because it says the other phone needs to be near it, but that phone has no power so I can't do anything with it.

So now I am going back to the Apple Store today, to return this POS that I bought from them less than 2 weeks ago and have them figure out how to erase the phone that won't power on, activate this replacement phone, and do a return on the new one. Needless to say I am not in a great mood over this as I won't have any way to be contacted by phone until this happens.

I have never been more disgusted with Apple products than I am right now and this is the last Apple product I'm buying for a long while. For this to happen in a span of two weeks for their flagship phone is completely ridiculous, and I will not be the most pleasant of customers today to deal with when I have to take a large chunk of my day to go back over there.
The SIM tray is an outdated technology, similar to the 3.5mm headphone jack. I would say that carriers need to level up on their end for activation, as it is not an easy process (they provide the service, and do a terrible job). That said, your device if you truly did all of the steps like plug into a computer and attempt to put it in recovery mode and it still didn't work is a 1 in 5 million situation.

By no means is your case representative of everyone else's experience. I've had the 14 pro max since September when it launched and have yet to see any sort of issues with it other than occasional software glitches including unexpected shutdowns that were an easy fix. I expect this being someone who uses 75% of my storage and my phone as my primary computer. Best of luck.

Actually my previous post reminded me of a very good point. My carrier setup my eSIM by simply typing in the IMEI number of the phone into a computer. Once they did that, the phone sprung to life and activated the eSIM.

So yeah. Call your carrier.

T-Mobile switched my iPad Mini 6 to eSIM over the phone - real straightforward.

Thank you, good advice.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that I’m going to have to go into an Apple Store just to get a cellular connection. It’s one of the dumbest decisions Apple has ever made all to make it more difficult for people to switch phones. Completely moronic.
I’m glad the situation was resolved but it bears mentioning that is absolutely not the purpose of the eSIM.

You do not have to do that. You can login to your carrier via Safari from home wifi.

I do feel in apples recent trend of cost cutting the esim is just another example of something changed for no reason other than saving on component costs.

This is the same as the headphone jack, charger etc and soon the mute switch.

Greed over margins means we are getting less but they’re charging us more.

Hey @DMG35 this Luke Miani video popped in my YouTube recommendations and I immediately thought about you and this thread.

Mind you, I'm not super fan of Luke, there's something off about him that I cannot describe, but many of his videos are interesting so I watch them from time to time.

In this video, as you can see, he's experiencing similar issues, that are apparently happening more than usual on 14 Pro models.

Hard to move on when you have had two bricked phones and you can’t activate the cellular on the working phone because of Apple’s moronic eSIM decision.

And yes, having two fail has made me wonder if the 14 is trash, and to me it is.
Yes I agree with you the 14pm is trash and folks who upgraded from the 13pm got played. But with that being said apple can do no wrong people gonna keep on buying them regardless . I hope you will upgrade to the 15 pm ok

Probably never going to buy another iPhone. The SIM card, like the headphone jack probably isn’t coming back.

And while I feel empathy for the op (you know they incorrectly say lightning doesn’t strike twice in the spot) my launch day i14pm works well. As they say and we know all too well, YMMV.

I guess there's bound to be a few duds with hundreds of millions of iPhones sold every year. Doesn't make this suck any less for the people affected though.

Exactly... There is NOTHING ever manufactured that involves micro-electronics where about 1-2% of them sold don't have issues. That means every time they sell 100 of them, 1 or 2 of those people will be angry/upset/disappointed.

This has been going on since the first digital electronic devices were ever produced.

The part where I feel like Apple failed here is being unable to provide customers with an immediate replacement unit. Like the original poster said, he paid $1600 for this phone and it's a device most of us rely on for both business and personal use. There really needs to be a better solution for in-warranty failures than "we'll mail it back in and let you know in a week or two when it comes back".

Even offering a comparable loaner phone would be acceptable, but not some iPhone XR.

I don't mind the eSIM concept. My iPhone 13 Pro is using Mint Mobile via eSIM right now and it made the initial activation process really painless. But again, Apple should have figured out a way to make it easy for people to transfer service between their phones when one is dead/won't power on.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to both of my iPhone 14 Pro models. The only difference is that they would not power back on and even the Apple employees could not get them back on. Both were completely bricked and it was not because of anything I had done to either phone.

Does anyone know where to go to activate a phone on AT&T's website? I simply cannot find it and would like to know should something like this happen again.

Log into your account, click manage device. Toward the bottom of the page, you will see manage your sim. Click that and then Get New eSIM.

I was starting to agree until you called the headphone jack outdated. What do you use, headphones with a lightning plug? Wireless Airpods? I don't even want to know.

I started using AirPods with my 6s+ (when the headphone jack was still around) and hasn't plugged anything into it since.

Been my experience as well with T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. Switching around ESIMs, adding ESIMS, moving ESIM phones between lines has been painless, instant, and fairly easy.

I guess we can judge manufacturers on just 2 phones? So using that same logic here... I have a 14 Pro and a 14 Pro Max. Neither of them have problems. Apple is PERFECT and their Quality Control is PERFECT. I also have had Apple replace a broken phone (dropped) recently (last year) within 5 mins of walking in the store. Excellent.

....

Alrighty. lol. Guess I need to go create my thread about how Apple's QC is perfect on the 14 Pro. I probably won't get as much attention tho. :(
