Does nobody here think that he doesn't intend to tweet at all, but only is responding with humor to Conans iPhone joke à la "I'm following you now ...?"

It probably is just that simple, after all the bad press lately the joke was probably enough to make him want to draw attention to it, and to follow Conan. Since it didn't mention duct tape ( which every report seems to be mentioning)

Maybe it's Apple's way of 'following' all the antenna moaners effectively...most of Scott's followers are going to be Apple fans.

I dunno, not that interested to be honest

I thought the same thing.. Something about him just screams clueless ******, but I have no reason to think that.

Everytime he speaks at a keynote it always seems really forced and unnatural when he goes 'we're excited' or this 'will change everything'.

I hate the way he says mulTIE instead of multi with respect to multitasking.

He is just creepy in the videos though like for FaceTime he wants to 'SEE RIGHT INTO HIS DAUGTHERS EYES'. It's very, very strange.

Unless I am missing something, who cares? Does this really qualify as front page news?

For everyone that thinks this is a bogus account, lol!
Twitter doesn't verify every 'official' account just like that.

The person setting the account up has to apply to have that account verified - by another human being! ;)

EDIT: For everyone complaining that this is front page news, find another site! It is news! You don't have to use this site!

Wow....are you guys serious? front page news hey:confused:

loose the paranoia, macrumors is becoming an old wankers club at high pase. are we going to get some front page info when Steve Jobs releases a fart, i find it to be realy interesting as in, maybe it could mean something is getting updated, the MacPro is way over due.

the front-page news is been one big joke lately, nothing but the most stupid iphone crap gets the front page...its getting old macrumors

This guy is incredibly intelligent when it comes to software. He's played a major role in iOS production.

Why is this front page worthy?

There is a very good chance this account will be used to reply directly to complaints made by the public. It will be easily accessible and verifiable. Of course MR would want to notify it's readers of such a high-profile account.

Forstall is hardly the first Apple employee with a Twitter account.

Michael Jurewitz is the Mac and iPhone Application Frameworks and Developer Tools Evangelist

Vicki Murley is the Safari Technologies Evangelist

There may be others that I'm not aware of...

I have to agree with you. I guess I don't get this cult-like following of Apple employees and my house is indeed riddled with Apple junk.

Lets be seriously honest here. Is this article worthy of being on Page 1, let alone something to be vaguely excited about? He's just an Apple employee who's happened to join a social-networking website - so what?? Are we going to give this guy a Knighthood??

Obviously it was important enough for you to type in a larger font. Don't get so worked up about it, others agree with you, me included. ;)

Yes it does. Apple does not allow their employees to blog, use Facebook or Twitter. Aside from Job's emails and occasional "letter" on the Apple homepage there is a total cone of silence out of Cupertino.

Something just changed, Scott got that account to use it, and clearly with the blessing of Steve. Considering the turmoil around the iPhone 4 this could be significant and very soon.

Because Steve Jobs would never allow such a thing from an employee of his level. Therefore, it is reasonable to speculate that there is something else to this than just Scott Twitting about his daily life.

You're missing the point and why it's frontpage - Apple does not allow their top tier talent to have a blog of any kind (Twitter is a glorified blog).

As he's a huge part of the iPhone team, you have to assume this is with concerns toward the new iPhone, which means they are concerned about the bad PR.

In layman's terms - this is a brand new shift in how Apple communicates to customers, because of a shoddy product.

I'd image they'll have a team of interns who spend all day posting "Sorry" but you can see the reasoning behind it and the big impact it has on what was once the indomitable Apple.

Depending on your age, another example would be 300 when the main guy throws a spear at the "god" and it shows him bleeding, which showed all the millions of followers he had, that in fact he wasn't a god. Apple bled and this is them initially whipping the blood away AKA admitting there's something there.

OR I just need to get more sleep...

Not for nothing... but this is garbage news. People are assuming too much from this. By the way, we don't care about the people that run Mac, we care about the products and service offerings. Dig up some dirt about the status of the Mac Pro. That's what everyone here wants.

Company of the year

I'm looking forward to read all those re-tweets about the quality issues...

Just because they want to distract attention from Stevo's pathetic responses and disastrous replies, they put another senior in front of the firing squad. I'd say...

FIRE!!!

It was going to be Bertrand Serlet

It was going to be Bertrand Serlet's turn to open a twitter account but -

Steve: Bertrand we have to find out why the Internets are hating us so much recently.

Bertrand (Coffee in one hand, mirror in another) : What do you mean "hating us"? That's what Microsoft is for.

Steve: Bertrand - you know things change. We just surpassed Microsoft at MCap. May be we need to make sure we don't surpass them at being biggest hate targets?

Bertrand (Coffee in one hand, Wacom stylus in another): Don't worry. I am working feverishly on a new wallpaper design for Mowed Leopard. Everyone will like it - even more than the Snow Leopard version. Plus I have marketing guys lined up to trash Windows with novel ideas. So it should make things insanely great for us.

Steve: Bertrand - please stop with the wallpaper. May be people want TRIM support for too long and they are getting pissed that we are not putting it out there?

Bertrand (Coffee in one hand, pocket shaver in another): TRIM support? But we aren't even selling the iShaver yet.

[ Lots of sighs in the room. Everyone looks expectantly at Forstall. ]

Scott : Don't worry guys. I had a plan all along to open a Twitter account. We will find out why people like or hate us - right there on Twitter.

[ Old board members in the room give him a - "Aww cute boy" look and meeting ends ]

You meant to say, "This is garbage news to me, because I just want to know about the Mac Pro." The 10,000+ followers the account has gotten in less then 12 hours screams otherwise.
