Personally, I agree with this decision. It shows an incredible change in Apple's public relations.

I love how people criticize this for not being newsworthy, but if nothing were posted at all, people would complain that no news was posted. :D

So, you're saying that posting boring unrelated and why-should-anyone-care news is better than no news? Wrong. There are far more interesting things going on in the tech world than covering who opens a stupid twitter account.

Here's a simple calculation for all who still think only a handful of people have issues:

Number of followers = number of people who have problems with their iPhone4.

Watch the numbers grow as people hear about his account.

I have to give Jobs' team credit here, it's a very good way to get a pulse on the situation without actually committing to anything. I hope to God though, Scott isn't going to tweet a suicide letter and try to take Apple down with him.

Or it could be a hoax.

As long as the current management team is in control, I would consider it to be the latter.

yeah, it's fake <roll-eyes>

why would anyone go to the extreme trouble of a creating a fake twitter account with this person..of -all- possible choices at Apple?

unless you are are engaging in some super lame & pointless attempted corporate sabotage (get yer tinfoil hat out, kidz)...or another Art Bell-esque endeavor, what would the point be of choosing this guy for a spoof account?

Personally, if I was going to spoof anyone's account, it'd be Jobs himself...at least that would be somewhat funny for the like, oh, 30 seconds it would take before it was found out..know what I mean?

edit: -if- this is an attempt on Apple's part to address issues with one of their products..it would be a major FIRST in the many, many years that I've been following Apple news. They are more tight-lipped than BP when it comes to admitting their own errors.

Wow, kind of defensive aren't cha? Maybe you should reexamine your priorities in life if you think this will affect your Apple experience. And by the way... this is a community forum supported by membership. I'm a member, so I have every right to complain about the content. If people like me start disliking the content, we will go away... and the ad revenue will fall.

Again, there is no logical advantage for the Senior VP of iOS to have an official presence on Twitter based on Apple's modus operandii of corporate communications.

This changes everything, again!

No really. This antenna situation is boiling up into a crazy PR nightmare. The rules have changed. You can throw that modus operandii out the window. We are seeing an Apple in damage control mode.

Because the guy heads up the iPhone division. Because of the iPhone 4 antenna brouhaha, his guy probably provides status reports to Steve several times a day.

If there's any fall guy at Apple concerning this unpleasant situation, it would probably be Forstall. If iPhone sales stall and Apple fails to make their quarterly numbers, this is the guy that everyone would look at.

Apart from the fact that Apple handles PR crises relatively poorly, I don't see how Apple will regain confidence from the marketplace by opening a Twitter account. I can see Apple corporate PR bungling the situation even more by taking some sort of half-assed, poorly contrived tactic (like saying that Steve was taking antibiotics for a viral ailment that ended up being pancreatic cancer).

Yeah, I can see Apple corporate PR doing something that brilliant.

Even though I'm a longtime AAPL shareholder, this drama is turning out to be quite entertaining. Fundamentally, I believe Apple is a sound company with ongoing growth potential, but this misstep in public image has turned out to be the best show in town.

Why would he do this? It's laughable to even think so.

Yes, if you don't think Steve is trying to make his team do the impossible with software to fix a physical hardware issue. Just take a moment to believe this is true, then imagine the amount of pressure you would be burden with... I, for one, wouldn't be laughing, but then again I actually have empathy for those kinds of stakes, as I'm still up working and taking a break to read this forum.

This is probably a dare or bet inside Apple, hence them verifying it.

Or Scott just wants his own personal Twitter so he can tell us all about what he's doing day to day

Or just a way for Apple to derive media attention away from the whole iPhone 4 antenna thing. Scott will post 4 word tweets every day, keeping the tech blogs on their toes

The possibilities are endless

I don't why so many people here are hating on this article when the majority here probably clicked on the link and decided to follow him just because he's one of SJ's right hand men. :p
And please no one reply to my post saying you didn't follow Scott's Twitter because you can't prove you didn't.

^^ I can't believe this is a serious post ^^

I promise. I do not follow his twitter.

This is front page news? Wow. In other news, Steve Jobs had his car vacuumed today, 73 cents was found.
Tru dat.

All I gotta say is "who cares". Anything and everything this guy says is going to be filtered through ApplePR and AppleLegal before it shows up. I'd be surprised if he actually submits the tweets himself.

So everyone here who is expecting juicy info about iProducts upcoming and current "issues" might as well go back to bed. Expect candy-coated and informationally-devoid posts on this feed.

Why would I follow Scott's Twitter account? I can read about it here and ten thousand interpretations of what he just tweeted (9,997 of those interpretations would be wrong though).

That would be a good time to quit your job. Not your life.

Fall guys step forward

He's got some explaining to do about more bars in more places. Steve tolerates mistakes but not deception.
