Apple has accelerated Mac OS X 10.6.5 developer builds with build 10H563 being delivered only 4 days since the last one (10H562). The build number was incremented a single digit and incorporates no known issues.

The previous build included a new Combo updater suggesting they are preparing for release. Apple has already announced Mac OS X 10.7 Lion for delivery in Summer 2011.

How is this page 1 news? Just asking.

Doubtful, Apple released one update to Tiger after Leopard had come out (10.4.10, I think)

You would be correct about that. About a month later. And Leopard got a major update two weeks before Snow Leopard came out, same with Panther and Jaguar. It's likely Snow Leopard will get one more major release, just before Lion comes out.

I HIGHLY doubt this will be the last Snow Leopard update... if Lion comes out in August 2011 that would be nearly a year without any updates... just seems unlikely.

Also, yes, MacRumors really needs to be a bit more discriminating about what constitutes page 1/page 2 news.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Huh? Apple will surely have several point releases between now and next summer. Between the new hardware in January (Sandy bridge) and miscellaneous bug fixes, I'm sure we'll get more updates.

10.6.5 Won't Be last "."

The last point will really be Mac OS X 10.6.7 or 10.6.8.

I'm pretty sure we'll see at least one more update (10.6.6) before Lion ships and probably 10.6.7 after Lion's already in the wild.
That said, I can't wait for this new update! I'm especially curious to see if it brings any graphical performance bumps.

It'll probably be released this Tuesday or Wednesday.

I agree, it's still quite a few months until Summer 2011, and my bet is we will see Lion released in late Summer, just a hunch. Imo, this will not be the last update to Snow Leopard, although I could care less, this OS has always worked fine me.

I figured the release would be page one. Usually these beta releases end up on page 2. I just thought it looked a bit out of place with everything else up there.

No. They are usually front page news.

I don't understand why people think this will be the last release or even why they say "doubtful" as it was never mentioned in the OP. Given that Lion is at least 8 or 9 months away expect at least a couple more releases.

It is unlikely to be the last. If the release cycle follows history, there will be at least a final point release to address compatibility issues with Lion. Most likely there will also be a release to introduce compatibility with new machines introduced in the spring too. So there should be at least two more releases.

I still want a fix for the trackpad being stuck. It's wicked annoying. Maybe it will be a smaller separate release?

Are you sure you don't have a hardware issue?

BTW, I waited ages hoping for a fix for a screen flicker issue when not using the discrete GPU. Eventually I brought it to the Apple store. They replaced the Logic Board. The problem persisted. Finally I found out that the hard drive was somehow causing latency on the bus and ultimately caused the screen to flicker. Replacing the hard drive cured my machine. You should definitely try ruling everything out. The problem could be in an unlikely place.

This.

In my own opinion, I think these are making Page One news because as a Mac community, there's really not much else to talk about since Apple has been focusing on their handheld peripherals lately (iPhone, iPad, iOS, etc..), but then again, I've only been on this forum for a few months, so I'm still not used to the way things work around here :D. I also believe that Snow Leopard is FAR from seeing it's final update - Lion is SOO far away still. I have no issues with 10.6.4 running on my MacBook 2,1 model, but still eagerly await 10.6.5 so I can do a fresh install of the OS with the update.. No real rhyme or reason why, I just want to hahaha.

Seeing the dedicated 10.6.4 Graphics Driver Update was more the exception than the rule, we definitely need to see more point updates, if only to continue refining the graphics drivers for existing games and to support new games. I'm betting 2 more updates in the next year, with a third on standby at the tail end in case Lion is delayed and new models need to ship.

And once again, any full OpenGL 3.0 support?

But the question remains... how many will stick with Snow Leopard when Lion is released?

With the current announced feature set, I'll stick with Snow Leopard. However, I'm sure that future announcements will add some useful improvements.

And once again, any full OpenGL 3.0 support?

Seems unlikely at this point, unfortunately...
Maybe Apple will surprise us with full OpenGL 4.1 support (or better) in OS X Lion.
It's a real nuisance having to boot into Windows 7 to see what my GPU can do...
