I don’t really see AR as a “killer” feature in phones. Dropping the LiDAR and focusing on a full, non pared down 5G experience in all models, would have been a better route, IMO.
What is 5G going to get me? Seriously. It wont be faster, it wont be available, and verizon is going to charge me more unless i go unlimited.

definitely gonna be trading in my launch day 11 pro if the 12 pro max has 120hz. the battery in my 11 pro has taken a beating from using the fast charger even with optimized charging enabled. already down to 89% from using the fast charger. gonna have to stick with the 5w this time.

and probably the only time I’d use it. I still have not found a use case for AR that isn’t a gimmick like this one
I think the only thing I find useful with AR is the measure app and how it lays the measurements on top of the scene. There are a few nice educational ones, but I don't have a need for them.

It looks really good. Even if 9.15 means absolutely nothing to us in the UK where we would write that date 15.9. For a while I kept thinking to myself "They normally start it at 10am their time, not quarter past nine". Then I realised... 🙄

Oh well.

Have had my 11 Pro since launch day too.I mainly wirelessly charge mine overnight and the battery health has only just dropped to 99%

Honestly, I didn't think so either.

Lidar + AR does have some benefits:
There are over 65 million US citizens (yearly) that are hearing impaired. Imagine a chat room where someone using US Sign-language can have a video chat where they can see what's going on with their iPhone propped up, yet behind the iPhone can use sign to enter text at a rapid rate (probably a LOT faster) than typing with thumbs.

Even better, someone that is able to communicate using sign and their voice simultaneously can have a video chat with a group of people, and summarize a presentation using sign entering text in a side bar of the video conference (VC). Children of Dune showed a few minutes of this and was VERY cool. So it's not just to benefit those that are hearing impaired in my view it can help a LOT of people.

Also it's a great test bed for AR glasses ... using sign for data entry in a private way as well as helping for navigation, information overlay into the real world.

I honestly can't wait, it's good though, it gives me something to look forward to :)

Just realized though that my Series 2 Watch isn't supported with the launch of watchOS 7... I wonder if iOS 7 is compatible with watchOS 6....

The ecosystem will be 1. The AR glasses with be your display monitor. 2. A powerful iPhones will be the brains of the system and 3. The Apple Watch will be the pointing device and interface to the world and the environment around you. :)

Very neat or interesting idea, but getting, more than likely, 3 expensive apple devices to get the full experience... IDK if that would work. I get it, I do. But I repeat, 3 expensive apple devices for the full experience... seems like it'd fail from the start. Don't get me wrong though, I think it'd be awesome!

It's not. It's a novelty on phones.

It's the killer feature on Apple Glasses.

But they need it to be FANTASTIC at launch. And for that they need an entire ecosystem of internal and 3rd party expertise with the novelty that it is on phones.
i just want to be able to take a good picture of the moon with a phone.

pretty sure it’s cause i let it go from around 15% to 100% very frequently. i try not to do that but it just doesn’t hold a good charge anymore

Really?
Isn't the UK standardized on the "metric" system -- meaning yyyy/mm/dd (or variants, thereof)?

It's always surprised me when Apple (a fairly US-centric company until the last few years) has put dates as anything other than mm/dd/yyyy

Yeah, we have people occlusion with ARKit2 so a step up from that will be hand gesture recognition and possibly occlusion. I.e. your hand is the pointer, and your hand will occlude the drawn AR objects. It would be even better ifyour hand could also be partially transparent too? If the device can detect the shape of the hand, then it can draw the scene, then draw the hand occluded AR content, then draw the scene sans hand and occluded AR content on top. This way you could see through your hand for easier interaction with AR content?

Children of Dune?
Is there a decent video version of this series? (all the ones that I've seen so far have been less-than-spectacular; I recall watching the version with Sting and realizing that I was transiently disoriented/confused because they skipped about 100 pages of the book.) With the spectacular treatment that Lord of the Rings received, I'm always hopeful that someone with similar vision and ambition will take on the Dune series and do it properly.
