I find it funny that people rush to Apple's defense by trying to throw Google and Microsoft under the bus... yet both of them have online services that don't quite have as much downtime as Apple.

We know that no one else ever ever has issues. Just Apple. That's why there are no major flood of news stories about gmail etc" They never go down.

You're kidding right? Last weeks Google's service outage made it to national mainstream news.

This made it to MacRumors...

OK I think that part was a bit of a stretch...

Is it? They have been rumored to be hitting various systems around the country for weeks, allegedlythe whole government has a Godzilla* sized bug up their collective butts about the company etc.

Is it that much of a stretch to think they might be aware of how the media hypes things, especially negative ones, about Apple. Or how important today is to the company. Is it totally far fetched to think maybe someone is trying to gain leverage by doing a little damage to the company?

* and yes I know that Godzilla is Japanese

Wonder what causes it. As long as these outages are short and infrequent which for me they have been (usually iMessage if there is a problem) I can live with it.

Seriously?

Gmail and Twitter are also experiencing outages. This isn't just an Apple thing. You people need to put your pitchforks away. Apple's iCloud service isn't perfect. Neither is any cloud service I've used. But it's better than MobileMe and works far more reliably than anything else I've used.

why apple always sucked on online services?

I think that Apple in general is below average in software quality. They excel in usability and looks, but usually they're week in overall software quality. Bugs don't get fixed for loooong time (i.e. their own implementation of samba), features are behind the competition (i.e. iWorks) and many software products don't scale well. It's like with italian cars: looks awesome, but breaks soon.

However, their OS, while based on something existing, is top-notch.

“Users may incorrectly receive an authentication error when attempting to use iCloud. "

What does that even mean?

Thanks for that highly detailed, technical review of iTunes, Bill. Now back to the studio...

;););););)

There is no highly detailed technical review needed. It sucks. Seems like every update makes it worse. If you enjoy it....then great. Just a simple Google search shows Im not alone. Especially the latest update.
You can put all the little similes at the end you want. Doesn't help your post

Up again here in northern UK. But it's been up and down all afternoon!
Did ring support and the advisor there had similar problems with her account as we were speaking.

Hammered with Spam from iCloud?

I wonder if they are getting a denial of service attack of some kind. I'm getting spam that appears to be from an iCloud email, about 1 every 30 seconds to a minute.

Hope they can get this figured out. Seems like the past couple months they have been having lots of issues.

Why does anybody rely on third-party "cloud services" when NAS is so cheap and easy?
