Apple is the worst company to be with at this point. They were known for computers not cloud. Good thing I didn't purchase additional space for cloud.

I still have the 25GB plan for free until 9/30/2013 because I was an old MobileMe subscriber. It's going to suck when I actually have to pay for it. Apple should give you 5GB of free cloud storage per device you buy, not per iCloud account. 5GB of free storage is not nearly enough storage space to backup an iPhone and an iPad.

----------

Apple's cloud services sucked when Jobs still ran Apple (MobileMe, hello). Stop it with Apple could do no wrong with Jobs was there. They have never been good at cloud services.

I never had an issue with MobileMe. In fact, when they switched to iCloud I got pissed because they took away services I actually used (photo gallery and iDisk). So now I have to rely on dropbox for those purposes and iCloud for... my AppleTV screensaver?!?!

and they want you to put everything in the cloud yet they can't even provide a reliable service...

This is why it's best to use gmail or something else for email, for example. iCloud is not a vital thing, so we can forgive these downtimes, but if your email is dependent on it, then it becomes a big problem.

You should always take the glass half-full. Lets say that the download later feature activated for all lol

For all the hype, "the cloud" is essentially just your stuff on someone else's hard drive. When their drive, or your link to their drive, is not having a good day, you get nothing. And then there is the whole security/privacy thing...

Must be some secret. They've been working on it for at least 10 years.

.mac sucked.
mobileme sucked
icloud isn't much of an improvement

You'd think with over $100 billion in the bank they could afford to hire someone who knows how to run an online service.

Well Apple did want to go with a tried and true system when they implemented their icloud service. That's why they chose to use MS's Windows Azure and Amazon's S3. Nothing's perfect. Maybe one day they will have something inhouse stable enough to use.

Just one of the many reasons I keep nothing of value or importance on iCloud.

I actually keep two copies, one on my media server and one on icloud. I haven't ran into an icloud issue but then again I don't access it every day

Absolutely not fixed - iMessage still sucks for a number of users over my way.

Totally unreliable; sometimes it will act like it has sent, and then nothing. Other times, it will send, only to change to a Text Message after it has been determined that the other user was on iMessage. In fact, a weekend's worth is iMessages from one user inundated my iPhone at 7:18am on Monday.

Azure and aws seem stable enough for everyone else

How did Joni Mitchell know all these problems at the time?

Bows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughing when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions I recall
I really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way

Oh but now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost but something's gained
In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now
From WIN and LOSE and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all

depression?

Gmail definitely has downtime. However, compared to iCloud, Google's cloud services have much better uptime than Apple's. I'm pretty sure this is now 3 or 4 weeks in a row that iCloud has had a major outage.

My Gmail was down for a whole day not too long ago... Good thing I don't use it for anything serious.

Out of the 4 major email providers I use, yahoo and hotmail have been by far the most reliable with Gmail coming a distant 3rd and iCloud coming in last. Apple still has a long way to go in terms of reliability. ;)

oh shock horror..all the years i been using mobileme and cloud this has happened maybe twice..things go wrong..no ones perfect..give em a break. !

So, you are fully confident that it was a redundancy issue. Brilliant. You're the man. Oh, wait, it could be a host of other things.

While age has nothing to do with it, experience does.

Redundancy is always an issue with an outage. Whatever the problem, Apple could have had a backup, wether it be ISP issues/terrorism/the intern, they could have had a redundant backup somewhere. This isn't World of Warcraft which is just a game. Many people rely on cloud services for many aspects of their life, and they won't rely on the unreliable. 99.9% uptime is the bare minimum allowed in the world of cloud computing. Apple doesn't achieve even that much.

I am fully confident is was NOT a redundancy issue. That is the point. Where is the redundancy? You know, when something breaks there is another system waiting to take over in its place.
With Apples BILLIONS of dollars, they can't plan for failure?
And as for age and experience, I have both.
