Siri turns 6 and still hasn't progressed technologically much beyond the moment it was released. (Oh, the voice has changed several times—guessing this is the superficial equivalence of Apple Watch band updates?) Congrats, Apple.

Switching from android, Siri is the only thing that is a major downgrade from what I'm used to with google assistant. With google assistant even on the iphone I feel like I get 90% accuracy but with Siri anything outside of "Siri set a timer..." is a crapshoot.

Oh the 4s. I still remember the empty chair up front. I knew what that meant. Siri was so cool sounding at that announcement but really never got to be as great as the promise.
Yeah, that was a sombre day. You could sense the tension at the keynote.

Although significantly improved since 2011, Siri's still a work in progress. Speech recognition is still lacking compared to GA, Cortana, and Alexa, but in all fairness Siri's multi-lingual capabilities make the process a lot more complex.

Sometimes I wonder if the people being so hard on it, have given it a proper try, or, more importantly, understand the syntax needed for such personal assistants.
I have. Really though, I don't have to use "proper syntax" to use my Google Home. My wife won't use Siri for anything but timers, but uses Google Home for quite a few things because the success rate is very high and she doesn't have to actively think about how she phrases things.

If you step back from your personal Apple investment, it's pretty easy to see that Apple had an early lead by buying a product and then never substantively developed it. It's fallen behind and telling people they're speaking to Siri incorrectly is only evidence of that.

As most said, useless. Cant understand what I say. Needless to say, i can count how many times i have actually used siri on two hands since its inception. Just two days ago I tried to create a reminder and it gave me web searches. Pissed me off so much i wanted to throw my phonenat tim cook and team!

Still not improved.

Still not available on the ATV4 in New Zealand. All other Apple supported products have it, just not the ATV4.

Mind you TVOS11 is such a massive step backwards, that within a week I could not stand it any longer and forced it back to 10.2.2.

Just this afternoon I asked Siri directions to a nearby store. She send me 900km away in another country. Even explicitly specifying my town and country did not help. And Google Maps? They had it correct the first time.

Maybe it's a hint you need to get out more often... Seriously, though, Siri seems hampered by the state of Apple Maps ... still.

Happy birthday Siri.....

(um.. those 3.5-inch phones seem small compared with today's standard.)

Just because you are more familiar / comfortable with your google devices, doesn’t mean it lacks any requirement for syntax. I am really curious how recently you tested Siri too, because despite it needing a bit of syntax, it is not as if you have to speak to it with some type of archaic programming language.

Like Google Assistant, it handles an ever growing amount of general queries, and can gives intelligent answers to follow up questions. With Apple now (ironically) switching back to Google to source some of it’s answers, it actually does a better job in iOS 11.

I have to admit, I don’t have much experience with google home, but, I would assume it is able to do more queries with vocal feedback than an iPhone, simply because it has to without a screen. Mine doesn’t arrive until the 19th, along with my Pixel’s replacement, but I am looking forward to testing it out, and comparing it to my Echo.

Tried to complemement her on her 6th anniversary....

Too bad I didn’t save her answers, ah well she’s just 6.
Even if she didn’t want to recognize it.
She tried to escape into some thinking that she didn’t have a real birthday etc jada jada
Think she wants to be 20ish or something.
Worse rant then a 4 year imo.:D

I know I’m going to get chewed out on here but honestly... after 6 years.... I feel Siri hasn’t improved all that much.
I’m still kind of waiting for that feeling of “it’s quicker to just do it myself” to go away.
I love the Hey Siri command and actually using Siri but I feel it needs to be improved so much still. All the virtual assistants do. And yes, I fully realize that Siri was not built to be a full on slave but rather a helper. Google on the other hand and Alexa were built to be full-on slaves. All things considered and flaws considered, I’d still choose Siri over the others.

It has only got worse at understanding what I am saying and has only gotten slower at activating, making Siri more and more useless and dangerous for me to use where it's useful (on the road).
How can Siri understand me first time when it first came out, but now 99% of the time it is wrong? Just the other day I asked it to play Frank Zappa. I have Frank Zappa in my music. It said, "I don't know how to play Frank Zappa". So then I changed and said "Play music by Frank Zappa" "I'm sorry, You do not have music by Flank Zapper". How dumb can these software devs be that it has no contextual learning from previous attempts?

I have my white 32GB 4s. Last phone released while Steve was still alive. He died just a day after the keynote. I'll be keeping the 3G and the 4s in their box to remind me of the early iPhone era decades down the road.

I came here just to say Siri sucks so bad, I waste more time correcting its errors and I've found that the built-in speech tool from Google (Chrome/Maps) is 100% better. Oh and hey siri is completely broke after updating my 6s to ios11

Thank you! Hope you feel better now.

As someone that had nothing but Siri until late last year, but has a Google Home now, it's just much better at parsing language and giving an intelligible response. It really has nothing to do with learning how to speak to Google. I just request things and it figures it out. Give it a shot when you get your Google Home Mini. I really want Siri to be great because it's all I have on the go (having to switch to the Google Assistant app on iPhone is a non starter), but I waste more time trying to use it than just tapping on the screen (except for timers).

In the same regard, I am curious how well the HomePod will work since it will require Siri to grow quickly, and be more helpful with voice responses as compared to the iPad and iPhone.

Will be interesting to have all 3 personal assistance devices at home, though, Alexa is getting booted soon since I can’t stand the audio quality, and, honestly don’t use it much. The Google Home is going to be a bit delayed I guess, I accidentally assumed it would ship with my new Pixel, but, I guess I get a coupon code once I have the phone for a few weeks.

Who knows, Maybe I will like it so much that I will decide to not order the HomePod, and get the higher (audio) quality Google home.

I miss the original Siri. It was far less politically correct and had plenty of Easter eggs. Anyone remember asking Siri where to hide the body?
Or if anybody remembers the answer to "Who let the dogs out?" – Yes. I know why it was removed, but with it went all the fun and the style of other stuff too. I remember talking to the original Siri. Now you can not reply to an answer any more. If the first thing is answered by Siri, the case (ticket) is closed, no more dwelling on the subject. That is so wrong, so "un-Ai"... I miss the original Siri too.

Siri just got worse for me. Tried 7 or 8x times today to send a simple text.

Siri isn't as good at understanding me as my cat. Utterly useless, this Siri. She also has an accent.
