Please define “older folks”. My definition is 80s and beyond.
I'm 46 and already reticent to anything new. Things were better 5-15 years ago so I continue to use older tech: PS Vita, M1 iPad Pro, Canon 700D, 11" Macbook Air, Lenovo laptop from 2020, (on the lookout for a) Pixelbook Go etc. About the newest thing I own is a Pixel 9a and that's hardly cutting edge.

I got sick of charging my Apple Watch every bloody night so went back to a Casio. I still think AR has the potential to change the whole world but as long as it remains another centralised app-paradigm it will never work. I want a device to interface with my neighbourhood's IoT output, not a phone stuck to my face.

If Apple could partner with IXI, that would be great. Then you could have one version that works for most. Also, probably a good idea if the first version didn't have a camera, but maybe the continuity camera feature.

I’ve been in IT and startups for half a millennium. I love tech. Which is why I had a good lol @maflynn post on what is old. If I saw utility in the rumored Apple glasses I would be first on line.

I don’t mind charging my devices. I love getting software updates for my car and having new features.

See if just rather a car and a TV that just worked and never needed an update!

Only concerns, are;- A. would they be heavier on the nose than regular glasses, B:- would the screen matrix of the glasses interfere with the screen matrix of my computer screen, as in cause unwanted moire patterns

I expect that smart glasses will be considered fashionable after Apple releases them :).

I want a Vision Lite headset just to have an extended monitor for my MacBook, I don't need a whole computer on my face.

As for AR glasses, I don't see a use case besides getting my phone notifications and map directions, and that's not worth hundreds of dollars.

Apple can't afford to screw up this form factor. Sadly, the rumor is that this is another product that was "Cooked"...stripped of the advanced capabilities that Apple envisioned for it, so that it can ship this year.

The end game for this form factor is AR. Having your real vision, not fake video passthrough, augmented with UI. The possibilities are endless. Labels, directions, information, subtitles, plus information relayed from your iPhone like notifications.

Without AR it could still be worth buying, but only if priced accordingly. I'd buy a pair to replace my every day glasses if they also replaced my AirPods. If they could record what I'm looking at and let me say "siri save a clip" and it automatically saves a video of the last 60 seconds of what I was looking at. Things like that. But they can't charge $2,000 for it. This is a $300 accessory without the lens.

Will be gimmicky just like everything currently on the market. Apple should wait until 2028 and only release true AR glasses.

There’s no chance these will be remotely ready this calendar year.
Right but could be an announcement. They should announce early and get as many devs on board as possible, especially game developers.
Don't use it in public bathrooms plz
They will-- they'll have to have some sort of light and a bell or chime when it's recording
This year is iphone folds year so 0% chances for smart glasses for 2026 and even for 2027 i think
I don't know-- that Tim Cook quote about tech we've never seen before could allude to glasses. Maybe announce this fall and release 2027 but with the Fold this could be a very expensive year for Apple fans 🥲

I’m worried it’ll become a problem in healthcare settings. Can’t wait for the day when I need to tell patients to turn their glasses off.
We already record our interactions with with our doctors on Voice Memos without you knowing :) Even some doctors / providers are testing out AI powered recording / transcription software to provide visit summaries.

I am certain with Apples ecosystem of devices they can make compelling arguments to have them, this comes down to one thing. Price. If they are not under $1000 they are a non-starter. These are an accessory to your phone essentially so they simply cannot cost more than your phone.

I remember in grade school being called "4 eyes" as an insult. Can you imagine the amount of glasses wearing people when this catches on? I hope those people are out there and see the irony.
