How many calls "look at that idiot with his stupid Google glasses" would anyone's ego survive before they take them off and never put them on again? On top of that, there will be lots of people who would get very annoyed if you pointed a camera at them, and would get equally annoyed if you looked at them wearing Google glasses, to the point where either _you_ take them off or _they_ take them off for you.

I just simply corrected him. I have to agree that the tech in Glass is amazing, but I'm skeptical on how people will actually want it.

The idea of smart glasses in my opinion is flawed. No matter how much Google tries to tell people, having google Glass will really come in the way of social interactions.

Not only that, but when you're not using glass, it's still there, right on your face, in your eyesight, doing nothing. That's not good.

Plus, someone wearing it will look like a top-of-the-line douchebag. I mean, buying a pair of glasses that serve no purpose but to convey some information and record video. While others buy glasses to genuinely help them. That will make you look really stupid.

Glass is good tech, but I can't see myself or a lot of people wearing it. In wearable tech, I think that a watch is the way to go. It can give more information, it's not in your eyesight when you don't need it, people won't see it before they see you, it doesn't come in the way of social interactions, and it's a norm now for people to check the time. So you won't look stupid.

Apple may be a bit slow at the moment by today's standards. Still not quite sure what how any company is suppose to be innovative every year when that is likely something that happens every few years at best.

Instead of taking an iPod and trying to turn it into a watch, I'd start with a nice watch (or with several different models), and replace the display with a tiny computer + LCD display. Make the display tiny but better than retina quality. Provide a multitude of high quality watch displays, each display something that you might buy on a watch. Could be cooperating with more than one manufacturer to match their current line of watches. So the first effect would be that nobody would actually notice that I wear an Apple watch.

Then start making it more useful than an ordinary watch. Use a display that works in the sunlight; that is a necessity. And in the dark, a tap on the screen and it lights up, so I can read the time in the dark without having a torch permanently attached to my arm which would be stupid. Display accurate time, all the time. That means 1/4 second accuracy all the time, knowing about daylight savings time, knowing about timezones (at least when there's a computer nearby), so you get on a plane, have a three hour flight, and never need to change your watch.

Must be rock solid. It must survive any weather that I survive, which includes rain, snow, -15Celsius to 45Celsius, gym. I do take my watch off going swimming or going to the sauna, that would be about the limit for me.

So that would be about the minimum for me. The point where it could replace an existing watch. If it cannot replace my watch, it is useless. Once it can do that, the sky is the limit.

You make some excellent points here. I would hope that it would also be waterproof so that one could wear it swimming if so desired and at the minimum be able to survive a shower and hand washing. Another thing that comes to mind is the power source. Will it need frequent charging or can they make it solar powered like Casio? I think that would be huge.

Fully agree. It will be LONG time before people would be comfortable having a conversation with someone wearing a videocamera on his face.

Not to mention they will be banned from all workplaces, restaurants, bars, strip clubs, etc.

Wearing them while driving is downright dangerous - having information beamed on your iris constantly.

Wearing them while playing with the kids so that granny far away can watch the action streamed on her laptop is all good and fun - until your kid rips them off your face and breaks them.

Video from them will be useless unless your moving your head at sleep walker speed - not made for human use.

And, they make you look like a complete retard.

So pathetic Apple can't do anything. No mac pros: delayed indefinitely. Their damn radio thing can't even launch. And now the stupid iwatch isn't coming. And what about iwork, ilife, aperture, logic pro? What has Tim Cook been doing?

What's next, a mini ipad with a retina display that should have been included in the original? A few spec bumped macs? The same iphone with an S in front it? IOS7 will probably play it safe and OSX will be the same thing but bloated even more. What happened to innovation?

Relax, don't get upset about things Apple themselves haven't announced officially. In regards to innovation, it's hard to begin or introduce something new for or as if for the first time (definition from The Free Dictionary) every year.

Whoa! Hold on there partner.

1. Mac pros weren't delayed. You never had a release date.

2. Radio isn't delayed. You never had an announcement, let alone a release date.

3. Watch isn't delayed. You never had an announcement, let alone a release date.

4. Retina iPad mini was likely impossible at the time of release. Or at least so prohibitively expensive, that it was unfeasible.

5. They gave you the highest resolution laptop ever last year, did you buy one?

6. I did some research, and found that the "s" model phones actually have substantial improvements. Who knew?

7. They are obviously working on new versions of iWork, as they've been hiring people for the project.

You had me until #7. IWorks? Really? REALLY? Really...
For the .000000876% of people who honestly give a sheet about it I guess this is BIG news but for the other 99.999999124%, well this is about as relevant as a new announcement about Google+.

It's just me, but I don't care too much about the swimming because (1) swimming and glasses doesn't go well together either for me, and as I found out to my very negative surprise, (2) sauna and glasses don't go well together at all (can make your glasses unusable). There's also the weird fact that "10 meter waterproof" on a watch doesn't actually mean "it will survive if you sink it into 10 meter deep water for unlimited time but might get damaged at 11 meters", but more like "be careful not to get closer than 10 meter to water", so I wouldn't trust anything to be waterproof

Ok, a watch should definitely survive hand washing. Unless you consider your elbow part of the hand :)

...

Really? Everything you listed is a rumor and Apple maybe not even be working on...

You know Apple is kind of big and can work on two or three things at once ;)

Huh... Pebble can design its operating systems from scratch, source components, build and ship a product now but Apple can't do the same thing until late 2014 - 18 months from now? And the reason they can't do that is because too many changes will be required to iOS when they already have the iPod Nano version of iOS that already serves the same form factor?...

I own one, I would have rather they look a little longer made it better. It's a good proof of concept...

He has been busy with lawsuits against Samsung since they have clearly run out of ideas on how to innovate.

I'm no Nostradamus but I'll take a wild guess here:

The iWatch project likely started while Jobs was living and the idea was birthed after some started using the 6th Gen nano as a watch. The shape of the 6th gen only lasted one year, perhaps because Apple didn't want the form factor to get worn out or give 3rd parties the chance to further develop the iPod watch idea.

But the point is Apple has had two years to slim down the 6th gen iPod into a truly wearable device and produce a better displace. So I'm unclear why Kuo thinks there are hardware or software issues.

We also know that Apple loves to hold back on features so that they have something "new" for the next gen. Perhaps 1.0 will not have true biometrics. They'll get the kinks out of 1.0 and put biometrics in 2.0.

Apple's iDevices are getting stale and saturated. (That is not to say they are not great products or that people are going to stop buying them, only that the upgrade excitement is diminished because they are that good, the same way Mac speed bumps are boring. Apple needs a new device. I'm not sure it can wait another year so I think Kuo might be off here.

What are you thoughts on the battery and charging?

Let's see, a $100+ dollar device on my wrist so I don't have to pull my very cool and very expensive iPhone out of my pocket and interact with a decent size screen but use, rather, a postage size screen that I'll need a magnifying glass and pin point stylus to use?

Where do I sign up?

Not sure where you live, but where I live using an iPhone or any other smart phone does not impress anyone because everyone, even middle school teens, have one. It's not 2007 anymore. If you think you are making a statement when you pull our your "expensive" and "cool" iPhone it's neither of those I assure you.

Also where I live adults use their phones as work tools, and yes, we find it a PITA to pull out a phone to see who's calling or texting or for basic info like weather. And many times we are in a situation where it's rude or improper to pull out a phone. A smartwatch would be great for this purpose, and more.

If (a big if) Apple needs a new device this year, a watch isn't it. iPhones in multiple sizes would provide a bigger boost than a watch ever will.

We're likely getting an all new, made in America Mac Pro (the most likely candidate), a redesigned iOS7, retina iPad Mini, and a redesigned iPad that's significantly narrower, thinner, and lighter. Personally, I think Apple will be fine. WWDC is coming up soon, at least wait for that before saying Apple needs a new device.

An iWatch does not really serve any useful purpose for me beyond what my iPhone already provides. Do you really want to know what your heart rate is and body temperature all the time? Is charting that over time going to help people to live longer?

This thread in hilarious.

What do you guys think it takes to "innovate"? Just sit around twiddling your thumbs for a few months and awesome stuff happens? I mean holy phukkballz, an iWatch would be an entirely new product category for Apple. But they can't let their butter slide off their toast just because they have a new idea. And things change as you go! And the tech they want to use might not be ready for prime time yet! Holy Crap! Just enjoy your iPhones, iPads, iPods & Macs. There's stuff in the pipeline, it's obviously just not as good as Apple wants it to be yet. I mean wow.

I am having a hard time getting on the Watch wagon. I already have my phone with me all the time. A watch that I assume will perform similar functions seems redundant.

new to the site... but I just wanted to give my 2 cents

People say smart watches won't go anywhere, or people look dumb, or there's no use for it, etc...

Those same comments were made when Bluetooth headsets was announced, or the first Smartphone, or the Wii controller, or Kinect, or 5"+ phones (I even used a 7" phone for 2 years)... I think we're in an age of convenience where it doesn't matter what we look like. If it makes things more convenient, people will buy it. I bought one of the first smartphones (Windows Mobile 2003!) back in 2003 years before the iPhone, and people always said "you hold that huge thing to your ear?!" and years later that's what we all do now.

Personally, I think smart watches are the future and most people that have a phone will have one. I would have never said that, but after owning Sony's watch I'm a firm believer.

I can't even begin to tell you how nice & convenient it is to have a watch that notifies me of everything without me needing to find my phone... and being waterproof on top of that. Here are situations I've been in where I loved having my watch on me:
-Phone is in the other room
-BBQ'ing outside
-Taking a shower
-Cuddling watching a movie, cellphone on the table
-Lost my phone (Click your watch and it'll find it even if it's on silent)
-Got an email/facebook message
-Phone is simply in my pocket, I don't have to shuffle my hand in my tight jeans to get it (like if I'm sitting, at church, at work, etc)
-Playing ball/skiing/surfing/sport (Just glance at watch)
-In a hot tub
-I have it setup so I get a notification whenever my PC finishes downloading a new TV ep/movie
-You can change the clock interface to different colors, times, analog/digital, etc, etc....

On top of all that... pretty much any day I go out (whether it's going out to eat, or walmart/bestbuy or with frineds) at least 1 complete stranger will comment the look of the watch not realizing it's a smartwatch, so it looks pretty stylish despite it being a smartwatch where people would typically associate big/bulky/ugly

As much as I love this Smartwatch, I'm glad to hear Apple is going into this market, because when they do I think they will dominate. This watch is actually the #1 thing keeping me from going from Android to iPhone :/

I'm sure some of you will think "why not just take your phone out and look?" "so this watch saves you 4 seconds big deal?", one of the biggest things about technology is to make routines take less time. That's why notifications have been implemented, lockscreens now contain more information, BlackBerry's OS and it's gesture shortcuts, taking pictures on your phone without unlocking it, Siri, voice texting, swype, etc...

Sorry for my long rant here, i just wanted to come in and say Smartwatches will be more popular then people think :/

Apple might not ever release a new product again... what was the last thing they released? Imac in dec 2012?

I wouldnt be suprised if they pushed back all their products to 2014.

Excellent post. And I still think people look funny with bluetooth headsets. Seeing someone with a flashing blue light on their ear while walking around looking and sounding like they are talking to themselves can be humorous at times. :D:D

You really should take your watch off when you shower, so you can wash where you wear your watch...

Is that really your commentary on his post? Are you really suggesting a watch shouldn't be waterproof to say - at least - a meter? Or extremely water resistant?

Tim, Phil, iWatch, Google Glass and and the iTV.

I am a big fan of Apple products. I own a MBP, iMac 27", iPad 2 (jailbroken, of course), Apple TV and iPhone 5 (jailbroken, of course) so I'm not some Win 8 guy lurking on this board.

First of all, to hear that there is an announcement on June 10th with Tim and Phil sounds about as exciting as getting a colonic. Boy, I can't wait for that. Steve is dead but, geez, can't they get someone in the room with presentation skills better than a cantaloupe?

I, like most of my friends and associates (male and female) don't wear watches anymore, and for good reason: the iPhone serves the purpose and so much more. In addition, my informal survey of people finds that wearing a wrist watch is uncomfortable. So I find it fascinating that my fellow gear-heads are soiling their pants over this prospective device. It seems more like technology for technology's sake.

Now Google Glass, on the other hand, if pretty phoquing cool.
Hmmm, is Google going to take over the 'cool' factor that Apple has had reins over for so many years? Never has an anticipated device created such emotion before it has been released, both good and bad. Hell, a bar in SF has already prohibited them from being on the premises and it hasn't even been released yet!

As for an ultrahigh definition iTV from Apple, well, given where Samsung is right now, Apple may be in trouble with this. (Is the tail wagging the dog?) Samsung has demo'd a pretty damned cool product already with voice and gesture controls...and access to content, which I believe is Apple's biggest problem:The Cable/Movie industries won't give Apple the keys to the kingdom as the music industry did with iTunes.

So I will follow the June 10th announcement with a little interest, but my guess is we'll hear about the iPhone 5S (mem), long overdue upgrades to some laptops or desktops (double mem), iOS7 (mem, as I live in a jailbroken world and iOS7 will still be behind it). And if they announce a watch well, I like so many others, just don't wear them anymore.

Nice. You managed to both call me a child and insinuate I use my iPhone to impress people. Go ahead and swallow whatever tripe Apple throws your way. I'll get buy just fine without this ridiculous nerd-gadget.
