I can update, download owned and new apps without any issues on Windows.

Ok, I'm going to use Windows 10 VM 😟 with Virtualbox and following your tips.
Too many apps not seen by stupid Configurator
When you wrote :

From Windows ? How?
How much disk did you gave to the Virtual Machine?
Are you copying the apps updated in Windows iTunes to your mac iTunes library?
Thx in advance 😊

The virtual disk is VMDK Dynamically allocated, so I gave it 120GB, but it only takes 25GB.
After installing iTunes, I uninstalled Apple's Software Update utility and Bonjour from Programs and Features https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028054/windows-10-repair-or-remove-programs
I prefer an old way of starting it: press the Windows key (in this case Command ⌘) + R , type appwiz.cpl and click OK
For the moment, I kept my Mac’s iTunes library as it was. If Apple will not fix the problem, I will probably use iTunes in Windows for app management.
One more thing, this is not something that is usually recommended, I disabled Widows Update because it doesn’t ask and starts downloading without my permission, plus it has a bad habit of breaking things. https://www.slashgear.com/windows-10-update-deletes-files-crashes-computers-23618085/
For that, I used optimize-windows-update.ps1 from https://github.com/W4RH4WK/Debloat-Windows-10/
but a more user-friendly solution is O&O ShutUp10 https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10
Free, doesn’t require installation, made in Germany :) VirusTotal report for the 1.8.1409 version https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file...e958013c4a936efa769bb9f72c596e3c07b/detection
Good luck!

Obviously 15.1.0 is not the same as 1.5.0, but both are the first to support Catalina. The point was that one has been updated 4 times since then, the other was not updated at all.

Apple thinks it's safe, you can buy it from them https://www.apple.com/us/search/Parallels
"Media: Activation Code & Download Link"

I can update, download owned and new apps without any issues on Windows.

On Turkish Apple store, licences are cheaper (education version is 36$)

I was able to download it on Mojave though , so it's not Catalina only. I have an older version that worked on high Sierra, let me know if you want it, and it is a 2.7

[automerge]1586353319[/automerge]

Actually I would love to get it. Incidentally I am still on Sierra and of course I too have the iTunes download issue (as it's iTunes/server related, rather then OS specific).

Unfortunately for reasons to long to date folks time with her I can't go beyond Sierra at the moment (and have some doubt if I can install 10.15 into a VMware container on y Mac). While I was working at Apple, and many times after I used VMware images to hot PREVIOUS version of the OS but rather doubt you can host a version of the GREATER then native to the machine.

So long(er) story short, I need to get a couple of configurator as I can't download it from the AppStore using 10.12.6... Thanks for any help/download you can provide. I have searched and search for a dmg or app for ages but to no avail.

All the best!

There is an alternate way to get it directly from Apple

But in case it doesn't work..

Asking everyone : how and where is the best way to share a 67.2 Mb zipped file?

P.s. I 😠 Apple when they do let people down!!

Got this today.

Screenshot 2020-04-24 17.31.18.png

iTunes 12.6.5.3 on Mojave 10.14.6.

On opening iTunes, all I see is this error. And on clicking "OK", iTunes just quites. I have been using it successfully for months by installing it with the method by sir bogdanw. Could the last supplementary update for Mojave have broken this? I was procrastinating the update for long but I did update a couple of days back, haven't changed anything else though.

I have tried restarting the computer, but it doesn't work. Can anyone suggest me what can be done?

If I remember corectly, several months ago we used to edit info.plist inside iTunes with 12.9.5 instead of 12.6.5. At some point, especially in Catalina, this trick stopped working and we switched to using 13.6.5 instead. Try to edit those values and see if it makes any difference.
You can use this script
Code:
set theAPP to choose file with prompt "Please select iTunes app:" of type {"app"}
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleGetInfoString -string 'iTunes 13.6.5.3' " & POSIX path of theAPP & "Contents/Info.plist" with administrator privileges
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleShortVersionString -string 13.6.5 " & POSIX path of theAPP & "Contents/Info.plist" with administrator privileges
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleVersion -string 13.6.5 " & POSIX path of theAPP & "Contents/Info.plist" with administrator privileges
do shell script "touch " & POSIX path of theAPP with administrator privileges
display dialog "iTunes was patched" buttons {"OK"} default button 1

Just back from two days of disaster -computer speaking-
I had to change a printer, installed the new drivers and after two kernel panics had to erase and reinstall Mojave-sigh and used a backup for my user I had. I was hopeful that could work but iTunes doesn't want to start.
I Tried to go back using all the sequence you suggested at #46 but doesn't work either
and I get the error "iTunes 12.9 cannot be opened because of a problem."

I 'm 😣 , what else can I do?

BTW Apple Configurator works so well it's downloading the same app for each device even if I'm trying to do the updates at the same time o_O.

I’m a sorry to hear about your problems and about that method failing again.
You can extract a new copy of iTunes 12.9 from the Install macOS Mojave.app. It doesn’t matter if it’s saved in Applications or if it’s from a bootable installer, it works even with one of the expired installers.
But it requires Suspicious Package https://mothersruin.com/software/SuspiciousPackage/get.html and patience, it might take a few minutes, especially if trying to extract it from an USB.
After installing Suspicious Package, run this script. It will ask you to select the Install macOS Mojave.app, extract iTunes.app from it and copy it to your Desktop. You can run it from there to see if it works.
Code:
set theAPP to choose file with prompt "Please select the Install macOS Mojave.app:" of type {"app"}
do shell script "hdiutil mount " & quoted form of POSIX path of theAPP & "/Contents/SharedSupport/InstallESD.dmg" & " -noverify -nobrowse"
set thePackage to POSIX file "/Volumes/InstallESD/Packages/Core.pkg"
do shell script "mkdir ~/tmp"
set theExppath to POSIX path of ((path to home folder as text) & "tmp")
tell application "Suspicious Package"
set theDocument to (open file thePackage)
set theAPP to (find bundles under installed item "/Applications" of theDocument whose name is "iTunes.app")
    with timeout of 3000 seconds
export theAPP to theExppath & "/iTunes.app"
    end timeout
end tell
tell application "Suspicious Package" to quit
do shell script "hdiutil unmount /Volumes/InstallESD/"
do shell script "ditto ~/tmp/iTunes.app ~/Desktop/iTunes.app"
do shell script "rm -rf ~/tmp"
display dialog "iTunes.app saved on Desktop" buttons {"Ok"}
This is a modified version of the one made for Catalina https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/itunes-12-6-5-3-on-macos-catalina-10-15.2184518/post-27595192

🙂 Thanks bogdanw! I’m not referring to the original 12.9, I’m talking about the 12.6.3 that we made to work in Mojave and at the end is called 12.9 but in reality is the 12.6.3 modified .
Anyway I'm going to start again using the newer iTunes 12.9 extracted fresh and see if it's going to work

Update: disabling SIP and doing all the steps suggested by you everything works this time.
- I used Root instead of Terminal from Recovery -
Yeah!!! Thanks again for all your scripts 😊

Now back to complaining about Apple not fixing iTunes 😉

iTunes 12.6: cannot backup using iTunes, could have it been because I disable sip and launched iTunes while it was still disabled?!
I can backup using Configurator though -that uses the same MobileSync folder
and sync with iTunes to avoid downloading several times the same app for each device after having downloaded once with Configurator.
Thanks Apple for making our life simpler 🤬

Interesting ! Thanks for confirming it B4U.
Before when I installed with all the scripts etc, iTunes 12.6 and had previous Mojave I didn't have any problem doing backup because I didn't disable SIP. I guess it has something to do with the latest security update
I guess if you need to disable SIP and enable it afterwards then you have this problem 🙄

I disabled SIP to install that iTunes on my Mojave, and then re-enabled SIP before launching iTunes. (If my memory serves me right)
The backup never worked even once ever since I installed this iTunes on Mojave.
I guess I had put up with that.

Give iTunes 12.6 Full Disk Access, install iTunesAccess.pkg and MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg, restart and backup should work with SIP enabled in iTunes 12.6.
Code:
http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/18/35/041-88780-A_GJANMA4WUP/xb3d8yo46hniuyttg61e1ozp4xcmuhufh5/iTunesAccess.pkg

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/22/04/061-97283-A_IQMSPKCRW4/fp1ym943ysioy8svkz11yt94ljzvogpwzi/MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg
Only Full Disk Access might be needed for backup to work, but it's probably useful to update these packages as well.
Edit: Script to verify the installed versions of the components from iTunesAccess.pkg and MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg
Code:
set iTunesAccess to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iTunesAccess.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
set AppleMobileDevice to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext/Contents/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
set AirTrafficHost to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AirTrafficHost.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
set DeviceLink to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
set MobileDevice to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
set iPodUpdater to do shell script "defaults read /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iPodUpdater.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info.plist CFBundleVersion"
display dialog "iTunesAccess" & tab & tab & tab & iTunesAccess & return & "AppleMobileDevice" & tab & AppleMobileDevice & return & "AirTrafficHost" & tab & tab & tab & AirTrafficHost & return & "DeviceLink" & tab & tab & tab & DeviceLink & return & "MobileDevice" & tab & tab & tab & MobileDevice & return & "iPodUpdater" & tab & tab & tab & iPodUpdater & return buttons {"Close"} default button 1
iTunesAccess.pkg from the link installs iTunesAccess.framework version 12.8.1.3
MobileDeviceOnDemand.pkg installs AppleMobileDevice.framework version 4.0, AirTrafficHost.framework version 4017.500.5, DeviceLink.framework version 264 and MobileDevice.framework version 1190.100.2.1

You are the Incredible, 1 ,2 and 3! 😎
Just Full Disk Access made it happens and now it sees all backups.
Thank you so much!

I downloaded the pkgs but
DeviceLink.framework is version 5.0 and not 264
and iTunesAccess.framework is version 12.8.1 not 12.8.1.3
Didn't install them yet. Should be ok if they are slightly different?

iTunesAccess and MobileDeviceOnDemand what are they for?
Both are part of the original iTunes instalation package.
I'm not sure what iTunesAccess does, but in installing it in Catalina fixed some iPod sync problems https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/has-anyone-gotten-an-ipod-shuffle-2nd-gen-to-work.2196567/
MobileDeviceOnDemand is the package installed when you get that message "A software update is required to connect to your iOS device"
I've updated the post above with a script to check your system for the installed versions on the components included in both.

Now I have installed them all and they match except iTunesAccess.framework version 12.8.1 but
I'm not worried about 😊

they match except iTunesAccess.framework version 12.8.1
What version of iTunesAccess do you have? The newest I found was 12.8.2.3 from iTunes12.8.2.dmg
I haven't noticed diferences when using different versions of iTunesAccess
Wait, I am kind of lost.
Does that mean I have to install iTunes again?
Have you granted iTunes Full Disk Access and it still doesn't work?

No, no!
I just granted Full Disk Access: System preferences-Security&Privacy-Privacy-Full Disk Access
-as Bogdanw suggested -and now iTunes sees all backups.
The other installers are an extra

Something odd happened today: I clicked on this link https://apps.apple.com/app/id1459219643?&mt=12 and I got the message "Do you want to allow this page to open “iTunes”?". I've clicked Allow, iTunes opened, I clicked Get and the download started, then stoped with the message "There was a problem downloading the artwork".
That app is for macOS, not iOS. I only clicked Allow thinking there must be a similar one for iOS.
Currently, developer's page is empty when opened in Safari https://apps.apple.com/us/developer/tausif-akram/id1447793441 App Store on macOS shows 4 apps, iTunes returns the message: "Your request produced an error.[newNullResponse]" and App Store on iOS shows 11 apps, different from the macOS ones.
The universal purchase might be messing everything up.
