Sorry for making you wait. I got the good news today. The problem is in the server, Apple software team is aware of this and they are working on it. They said that the problem will be fixed soon.

How soon? Do you have any new informations?
Maybe we should need to try to get all together and keep asking on Apple forums till they don't fix it.

I've noticed that iTunes 12.6.5.3 can no longer download updates to the desktop for older macOS versions and older iOS devices. (El Capitan)
Says downloading but nothing happens.

Apple hasn't dropped support for iOS 12 because my iPhone 6 still gets dot updates long after iOS 13 was released. But I can't download app purchases for my iOS 12 devices on my desktop.

Yeah, sadly, we have noticed this since page 10 and has yet to have an official fix from Apple's server side at the moment.
@katbel came up with a workaround on page 13.

does anybody of you have the same problem like me:

running iTunes 12.6.5 (besides 12.9.5) on 10.14.6 with deactivated Dark Mode in 'System Preferences' - but the GUI is in a kind of Dark Mode and until now I didn't find a way to change that - and in some parts it is nearly impossible to read (> side bar) - any help is highly appreciated, thanks in advance!

How did you install 12.6.5 in Mojave, while also keeping 12.9.5?

have a look at @bogdanw's post in another thread >> here
it is quite a little bit of work, and you should be familiar at least a bit with the Terminal, but it works wonderfully afterwards -
and pay attention (!) especially to the last passage in his post:
...
I know it might look complicated, but if you edit the above commands to include the name of your Mojave disk (if it's not Macintosh HD) and your user name (instead of UserName) and save them in an iTunes.txt file on your desktop, you can run cat /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Users/UserName/Desktop/iTunes.txt to display them in Terminal in Recovery and just copy-paste them in a new window. ...

but the GUI is in a kind of Dark Mode
If I understand correctly, that happens in iTunes12.6.app. As it can't be and it isn't dark mode (with alternating stripes), I suspect it to be a corruption of some resources in the app.
Try to delete iTunes12.6.app and install it again with this script:
Code:
set theDMG to choose file with prompt "Please select iTunes dmg file:" of type {"dmg"}
do shell script "hdiutil mount " & quoted form of POSIX path of theDMG
do shell script "pkgutil --expand /Volumes/iTunes/Install\\ iTunes.pkg ~/tmp"
do shell script "hdiutil unmount /Volumes/iTunes/"
do shell script "cd ~/tmp/iTunesX.pkg; cat Payload | gunzip -dc |cpio -i; ditto ~/tmp/iTunesX.pkg/Applications/iTunes.app ~/tmp/iTunes.app;"
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleGetInfoString -string 'iTunes 13.6.5.3' ~/tmp/iTunes.app/Contents/Info.plist"
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleShortVersionString -string 13.6.5 ~/tmp/iTunes.app/Contents/Info.plist"
do shell script "plutil -replace CFBundleVersion -string 13.6.5 ~/tmp/iTunes.app/Contents/Info.plist"
do shell script "ditto ~/tmp/iTunes.app /Applications/iTunes12.6.app"
do shell script "touch /Applications/iTunes12.6.app"
do shell script "rm -rf ~/tmp"

Thanks a lot (!!) , that's amazing what you did and I appreciate your help extraordinarily!

Yes right, it happened in the 12.6.5 iTunes version.

The only thing I am wonderering about inside your script is the use of 'iTunes 13.6.5.3' - shouldn't it be 12.6.5.3 ?
Moreover you used in the next two lines '13.6.5' - is this correct as well?

Thanks again in advance and best regards,

Hubertus

Yes, the lines are correct and needed to trick macOS into allowing iTunes to run. Without them you will get this message: "You can’t use this version of the application “iTunes12.6” with this version of macOS. You have “iTunes12.6” 12.6.5."

creating the new installer worked like a charm and installing the package as well - but ...
... hahaha ... 😂😂 ... now I do have a not working 12.6.5 (with that bar over it) in the Applications folder and the 12.9.5 version has gone ... 😁

Never mind, really no problem -

I think I will start over again with your instruction you gave here ... 😊

I 've updated the workaround for an easier use
To resume it for new readers and disappointed Apple users 😟

Using Apple Configurator while waiting for Apple to fix iTunes ...

Launch Apple Configurator, then update ONLY the apps you need -Not all if you do not want to-
Then you can update iTunes using Configurator apps following the link to the folder .

Just drop all the new apps updated from the folder

~/Library/Group Containers/K36BKF7T3D.group.com.apple.configurator/Library/Caches/Assets/TemporaryItems/MobileApps

Drag it over iTunes open window where the updates are

iTunes will ask if you want to update each one or all , say yes and you are done.

Of course if you care to have some apps backup before doing the "dropping",
it is better you do it till you can. You will find the old releases in the trash: do not empty the trash yet but copy somewhere else your backup apps.

To push Apple Configurator to see more updates:
I deleted all the caches in
~/Library/Group Containers/K36BKF7T3D.group.com.apple.configurator/Library/Caches/Assets/TemporaryItems/MobileApps

and now it sees more updates you can download

I'm a sorry for the misunderstanding.
The script from post #359 does not create an installer. It just extracts iTunes from the DMG, modifies Info.plist with the values you asked about and moves the modified version into /Applications. That's why I said to delete iTunes12.6.app first.
If you don't use iTunes 12.9 anyway, just delete the non-working iTunes12.6.app and use the script above to create a new one.
Or you can use just parallels for education with an oem key (30-40$ totally) and wait for fixing this issue.
As a matter of principle, I will not pay to get an Apple service that Windows users get for free. And VirtualBox works just fine.

And it's not updated as often. At this moment, it's 4 updates behind
https://kb.parallels.com/124724 Parallels Desktop 15 for Mac 15.1.4 (47270)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/parallels-desktop/id1085114709 Parallels Desktop 1.5.0
Note that the App Store version is version 1.5, while the commercial version is 15. Version numbers are not comparable because they're not even the same app at all; I'd argue that what Parallels is doing is very deceptive. The App Store version is based on the built-in macOS hypervisor, while the full application uses its own virtualization technology.
In any case, we're way off topic here.

Thanks for this interesting additional information but I think the “Mac App Store version” of all apps is more secure than dmg files that were downloaded from browsers. I am using parallels for first time because of this issue and it is very laggy (not on the iTunes app but on the Netflix and on the asphalt 9 app). I hope this issue will be fixed by Apple.

Please , keep sending feedbacks , more we send more chances we'll have to see it fixed

BTW Apple Configurator updates a lot of apps but some are ignored even if I click add+: this is an odd issue with iTunes store, though . Even in the past going through my purchased apps some where not showing at all 😠

Obviously 15.1.0 is not the same as 1.5.0, but both are the first to support Catalina. The point was that one has been updated 4 times since then, the other was not updated at all.

Apple thinks it's safe, you can buy it from them https://www.apple.com/us/search/Parallels
"Media: Activation Code & Download Link"

Someone posted this on the Apple Forum
"The individual apps are no longer on the Windows version of iTunes either. "
Is it true?
I can update, download owned and new apps without any issues on Windows.
