That seems to me short-sighted.
I suspect they will be a sleeper product; at first only used by a few diehards or people who are really worried about how many things they forget and lose, but over time people will start to figure out more and more unusual ways to use them, ways that go beyond just "where did I leave my keys".
Personally, I can't wait for the airtags.

The tagline is literally "Spring Loaded". So why wouldn't you expect it to be packed

Pretty sure we are going to see the Apple Car, Apple Boat, Apple Personal Autonomous Drone, and the Apple Contact Lenses. Gene Munster says there will also be an Apple Television set. I am also hoping for an Apple Hot Chocolate Maker.
But... they only announced an Apple Event?! 🤔

I can pick random examples too. How about some relevant ones, like M1 Macs first appeared in 11.2 beta 10 days before they were announced in November, and they shipped with 11.2

Very good odds that iMacs are being announced next week. All signs point to it. I also think WWDC would be an odd place to announce them. Forgetting the fact that it is a software event that increasingly avoids including hardware announcements...the Mac Pro and MacBooks Pro are the products that most align with WWDC...not the iMac.
You’re forgetting wwdc 2012 When they announced the 2012 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
Or WWDC 2013, where they announce the new airport extreme, a new MacBook Air, and the new Mac Pro.
Or WWDC 2017, where they announced new iPad pros, new MacBook pros, iMacs, and the iMac Pro.

I think the release of third party device location was a preemptive move to ward off yet-another-monopoly suit from an Air Tags release this event.

I am personally hoping for an Apple TV refresh.

Question for those who are excited about AirTags: why the excitement?

It seems like the kind of innocuous afterthought tech that you impulse buy while in line for checkout. Like picking up one of those spare USB drives that sit near the counter at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Microcenter, etc.

Not knocking the product category, just genuinely curious about the excitement surrounding something so mundane.

maybe it is the ‘status symbol’ mentality? Like the white earbuds or the iPhone was before it.

“look i’ve got stuff that’s worth spending 99 bucks to track”.

who knows. But I agree it is amongst the most ‘meh’ of the recently rumoured products. Though probably more useful than a combined speaker/atv/zoomthingy.

I don't know what to expect from this event. I would like them to announce a revamped Apple Music, but I've come into these being disappointed by that. Maybe this event might be the final public release of 14.5, which feels like it's gone through at least 2 IOSs just to get to this point. I bet they are already starting to develop IOS 15 to be announced in June. IOS 14.5 feels like old news at this point.

MR loves shoehorning in AirTags to every event possible.

I've been here since July of last year, and I think the Airtags are a MR wet fantasy that whenever it does come true, MR will say they were the first to report it. It only took them about 50 times, but better late than never.
