no, there is a date of ownership, it has nothing to do with the day it was announced. Stock splits really don't mean much of anything, but for some reasons, some investors think it does.

Think of it like this, If you have $10,000 to invest today, you can buy 20 shares ( with the stock @ ~$500 a share ). Its the same if you buy the day after the stock split.....you still have $10,000 to invest, but the share price is now going to be $125 a share ( bc its a 4 for 1 stock split ) and you'll be able to purchase 80 shares ( assuming the price of the stock doesnt move too much up or down ). If its confusing, just google what a stock split is. You dont make any more or any less by owning it now or after the stock split ( asuming the stocks price doesnt move all that much that is ).

Thanks. Yes. I get the concept of a split. I just wasn’t sure of the timing, that if people who buy now still get the 4x shares after the split. Now I know. I guess the question is wether the stock goes up or down after the split. I hear so many people saying it will go down. That Apple has no more room to grow. But i have been following Apple long enough to know that those shorting the stock always lose. i wouldn’t be surprised 5 or 10 yrs from now we are talking about Apple becoming the first 3 Trillion dollar company.

I'm curious. Has anyone who owns Apple stock taken an early retirement yet? :D

My UPS guy talked to me about his Apple stock the day he delivered my AirPods Pro. He didn't give me numbers, but it sounds like he doesn't have to work. He did mention the tens of thousands he gets in dividend checks quarterly and that he has was having a hard time 'giving it away'....I'm not sure what he meant by that statement but I almost offered to take some off his hands. I may do that next time - he seemed like the type that would give money to a stranger. :)

Here's an interesting side effect of the stock split, from what I've read.

The split won't have much effect on the S&P 500 Index or the Nasdaq Composite Index because they are weighted by market capitalization, and Apple's overall value isn't changing. But the Dow Jones Industrial Average is weighted by share price, so Apple will have only 1/4 the weight in that index after the split. That will affect the Dow's ongoing performance, probably negatively given Apple's high returns.

There was some discussion related to this kind of thing at https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...27-says-wedbush-analyst.2250934/post-28804402 and there's actually a factor that is in play when it comes to Dow which gets adjusted when there's a stock split.

Apple's positioning will still change in the index, but in combination with other Dow changes that are happening it kind of remains to be seen what the effects of it all might really be: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/e...o-dow-because-of-apple-stock-split-2020-08-24
