Right now, you can buy a PC with the MBP specs for a considerably cheaper price. The average consumer may not think the OS is worth that much more, so apple sits at its 10% market share point.

However, in order for apple to really make an impact this tuesday, the new notebooks have to be "aggressively priced" as well as having specs better than their competitors. Are you confident that they'll do this? Or do you fear that they'll release today's technology at yesterday's high prices?

What was the technological climate at the time of the MBP release? I remember my buddy bought the very first one, and we were all truly wowed by it, but I don't know s**t about anything anyways.

their strategy seems to be remove firewire from the macbook and piss everyone off then make the price super low and get everyone back?

my guess...

I still think there's something fishy about those pics. Losing FW would be a hell of a loss.

Please hold, your call is very important to us but...

If Apple has a "Brick" and mortar facility, why wouldn't they mess with the rumor mill and produce a piece of aluminum that trips us all up? No firewire, ethernet or even the lack of power cord would send people through the roof. We have 24 hours until the event starts and the Apple Store website will go down for a couple of hours. Apples legal department seems to be lightening up, so why don't we all?:D

I doubt we are loosing FW on either the MB or MBP.

Of course I could be wrong, but it just doesn't make sense to me that Apple would give up FW on either model.

Guess we'll know soon enough.

what if there was a cheaper MBP, one price at the current top of the line macbook ($1500)

It doesn't make sense would they would strip away ports from the macbook, they already have a laptop with limited ports, it's called the macbook air.

We'll see tomorrow.

Their strategy is to sell it competitively by maintaining appeal; then they money, and all the shareholders are happy.

Care to guess HOW they'll do it?

making it sleek, sexy, and having OSX... theres plenty of appeal there

The current MBP is still THE best looking notebook on the market

i saw a brand new shiny one in best buy yesterday (looks much prettier than my old dirty one) and i almost wanted to buy it just to have a nice pretty one again:D ..its still that hot of a machine after 4+ years

I still have a feeling that the MBs and MBPs will be consolidated into one line.

I think this too.

It's possible the MBP prices will all drop in line with the PC market and be as cheap as the mid to high end MBs were. MBPs will all have FW.

The FW-less MB (if that does exist) will come in very cheap. Not netbook cheap though. Apple have a small tablet machine based on Atom waiting in the wings for January announcement that will compete with the top end EEE pcs (think £400-450, ie 50 quid or so more than a EEE 1000/901).

Just my thoughts on strategy.

Maybe they will have a 15" and 13" pro series. One product line with three products (13", 15", 17").

I hope Apple lowers the prices. The money is not an issue for me, but it is one of the last major complaints about Macs and the easiest to address.

Is OSX worth more than Vista, certainly. $200-$1000 more, no.

I still have a feeling that the MBs and MBPs will be consolidated into one line. Maybe even with a new name...

possible, but

then how does one explain the two different leaked cases?

I wouldn't go as far as saying I am expecting this, but I wouldn't be surprised. The different cases are for the different sizes. The bigger the computer you buy the more expensive and better it is. Just like now but all under one name.
