Apple plans to release a new version of the Studio Display "in the first half of 2026," according to the latest word from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman noted that inventory of the current Studio Display is running low on Apple's online store and at its retail stores, although this has generally been the case for a while now. Extended shipping estimates on Apple's online store can sometimes hint at an upcoming product refresh.

Last month, an unreleased Apple monitor with the model number A3350 surfaced in a Chinese regulatory database, and it is likely the Studio Display 2.

Unfortunately, the database entry did not reveal any new details about the Studio Display 2, beyond indicating that it will still have an LCD display instead of an OLED display. However, mini-LED backlighting remains a possibility.

There have been many reports about a new Studio Display being in the works, with rumored features including mini-LED backlighting, ProMotion support for up to a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and an A19 chip or A19 Pro chip.

The current Studio Display was filed in the same Chinese database around three months before it launched, so perhaps the next Studio Display will be released around March or April, but Apple has until the end of June if we go by Gurman's timeframe. It would make sense for Apple to unveil a new Studio Display alongside the next Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips, or perhaps a new Mac mini, but it is not strictly necessary.

If the next Studio Display receives mini-LED backlighting and HDR support, its maximum brightness and contrast ratio would be higher than the current model. And a newer A19 or A19 Pro chip — up from the A13 Bionic currently — should contribute to performance improvements, camera-related enhancements, and more.

The current Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K screen, a 60Hz refresh rate, up to 600 nits brightness, a built-in camera and speakers, one Thunderbolt 3 port, and three USB-C ports. In the U.S., pricing starts at $1,599.

I'm just hoping for a lower than $2.5k version of a 32". Why not drop the price of the current XDR to that when the V.2 comes out?

120hz would be nice but no real biggie for me. The type of processor? Couldn't be less interested.

What it needs, so badly, is a huge leap in camera performance. How the crappy one in the current model got signed off is anyone's guess. The v2 ought to have the best damned webcam around, no excuses. It's not exactly like Apple don't have access to billions of camera modules, is it?

Yep, for me there is no need for camera, speakers, or mic. I just need a display, so cost will be an issue.

At this point just throw in a SSD stick and make the power cord removable and you have an iMac. /s

Camera needs a physical privacy cover via slider.

Upgraded Apple monitors are a good thing, their quality and appearance are usually a step above everyone else. That does mean a price premium, but the current prices are out of whack...there are several 6K 32" monitors available around the price point of the current Studio Display, and less than half of the XDR. The XDR price made sense as the only professional display at that level on the market, but not now.

I'm in the market for a monitor upgrade, my 30" Cinema display needs to be replaced. I'm waiting to see what Apple puts out before I jump, but right now I expect to get one of the 6K 32" monitors, they will have been out long enough that reviews of them should be pretty complete by the time Apple's monitors come out. I'm hoping Apple really puts something good forward, if they can't match what the rest of the market has going, even with a bit of Apple tax thrown in, then I'll be buying a non-Apple monitor for the first time in 20 years. That does speak to the quality of what Apple puts out, I'm not sure an Acer or LG would be that reliable for that long. I guess we'll see soon what Apple will do.

I've been very pleased with my Mac Studio/ASD setup and don't really care about/need ProMotion or mini-LEDs for my use case. What would make a new version attractive to me would be if they included a height adjustable stand at the same price point as the current model with the tilt-only stand.

I would have purchased the original Studio Display if it had the more than one HDMI input. If Apple release the new Studio Display with two HDMI inputs this will be a day one buy. Otherwise, I think I will purchase the BenQ PD2770U that has internal color calibration for $1700.

Yep, The simpler, the better. I already have a camera on my MBP and speakers system. Just give me the simplest option like the XDR. Just a display. That's it.

Same boat. I also have two ACD 30" and they are close to die. The brightness over these last 20y are getting weaker and I have to applaud Apple for making such a great monitor last this long. I would love to replace with the XDR but those prices are just insane. If they cut it in half, I would buy two.

The minute Apple releases the new Studio Display II I will buy one. Bought Canon Pro 1100 A2 printer in the meantime. So hurry up Apple.
