Sound engineers, Visual Artists. Hell, how about stockbrokers, lawyers, web designers, doctors, scientists, programmers etc ...

Basically any professional who's job does not involve color grading.
Why? Every reviewers says you barely/not notice the difference so they all conclude that except whern you would put it right in front of a window with direct sunlight it doesnt matter.

So why would a sound engineer/lawyer/doctor/scientist/programmer/... first buy such a monitor? Its expensive and he doesnt need it to be color accurate for those professions and second why would he need 600nits where 500 wont do ?

Yeah none of those so no its an excuse for people to justify the extra cost.

A) Because they want a quality Apple monitor and they have the income to allow for nice things.
B) A potential client is more likely to be wowed by your expensive studio display vs a boring black box LG.

A Mercedes costs more than a Toyota, but they'll get you there at exactly the same time in traffic.

Having the extra brightness if needed is better than not having it and needing it.

Over what? The wobbly, plasticky LG with random issues ?

If you are happy with the LG's price, get the LG in full knowledge it doesn't look as good on the outside & doesn't feature as much tech on the inside.

IMHO the ASD Based on industrial design and build alone looks like it should cost 25%+ more than the LG. Whereas If Apple had thrown this display in a cheap plastic chassis and added some generic speakers like everyone else does, it should be on-par price-wise.

Assuming the ASD webcam issues are fixed soon, and if the new version of the LG 5k comes in below $1000, THATS an argument worth having.

Sure if you go just for looks but that has zero to do with proffesionals nor with work flow. Its just there for its looks.

But the very vast mayority wont need it and you do pay for it.
Thats why most reviewers concluded that if you really need all it offers then yes its the only one in its class so buy it. But for the veryvast mayority of people that dont need to have all this its overpriced.

I struggle to understand why people follow the lead of tech reviewers. For me, I watch tech reviews to gain knowledge of a product I am researching. I appreciate that these reviewers have spent time with the product, albeit limited, and can share what they have discovered. However, I draw the line at whether or not they think I should buy the product.

So these reviewers have said that for most people it's over priced. Great. Since their opinion on what's overpriced doesn't necessarily translate to what's overpriced for me, I bought one anyway.

They get a lot of products in theier hands and can more easily compare to whats also on the market. I buy a monitor every 4-5 years and simply cant. SO yeah, i know these days a lot of people look down on experts but they usualy know what theyr are talking about.

Its overpriced compared to whats on the market for most people, aka what most people want and need in a monitor you can get cheaper.
They dont mean nobody should buy it btw so your reaction here makes little sense except you somehow wanted to say you bought it?

Perhaps, perhaps not. Regardless, I don't look to them to tell me what's good for me.

How on earth could you possibly know what's good for most people?

I don't live or die by whether or not anyone here knows I have bought anything.

The LG 5K is now being sold for less than 1.000€ on multiple EU Amazon sites.
I've been thinking for months between the LG and ASD, because I really want a 27" 5K display. But when the ASD came out, the LG was still about 1300 Euros. Now I can get one for 900, less than half of what the ASD would cost me. A no brainer. Thanks Apple for bringing the LG 5K price down, I guess.

I have the LG 27” UltraFine and love it. Gorgeous display.

I have the LG and would love the studio display, but at the cost you are describing that’s a tough choice. The ASD is certainly better, but saving 50% is huge. If you’re gonna use your own camera or continuity camera, and you don’t need great speakers built in, LG might work for you save you a lot of cash

I agree. I had the LG 5K and now have the ASD. The ASD is certainly nicer (better speakers, better camera - “cameragate” notwithstanding, and faster USB-C ports) and has a more attractive design, but for cost/benefit the LG at that price is likely the better option for most.

Yeah, they said "a no brainer" but for my use case that wouldn't be true. I was lucky enough to buy an LG right before the ASD was announced so I was able to return it. In my case I would still pay the extra cash I like the ASD so much better.

Isn't the Studio Display fully laminated vs a plastic sheet with air gap for the LG?
I understand the practical difference in touch devices, like with the iPad (regular iPad vs the Air or Pro, for example).
For the monitors, I don't know the answer to that question, but would that translate to something relevant (and more than marginally so?)

So you probably use some of the added/improved features, and that's completely understandable. I just want the really crisp text.

a slightly blurrier display with the LG ultrafine if it is not fully laminated

I did but I also wasn't happy with the build quality. The ASD feels sturdy and my LG would wobble sometimes when I typed. Easy to find instances of other people mentioning the wobble.

The Apple Studio Display is twice as expensive as the LG 5K Ultrafine monitor, as you have to add the additional height adjustment on the ASD to make the comparison meaningful. So LG 5K Ultrafine wins.

But the LG monitor is not worth it either since it is a niche product to address the bad scaling of Apple computers, unlike on Windows.

Do you mean the scaling that gives accurate display of fonts, unlike on Windows?

What accuracy?

Even my $499 Xbox Series X does text better on my 4K Samsung TV than a $4000 Apple computer.

Apple computers are a joke with external monitors, which is why my Apple computers are laptops only.

Sometimes I go to the Apple Store with a big jar of Vaseline and alot of lube trying to spend $2000 (the height adjustable stand is not for free) on the Apple Studio Display, but I cannot do it.

I feel like anyone with the money to buy a $900-$1,300 LG monitor either has the money or can figure out a simple financing method to spend $1,599 on the Studio Display if they really want it. YOLO.

I can easily afford it. But the thing is, I can buy a 4K mini-LED 27" 144hz monitor for $999, which is not that far off from the mini-LED in my 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro.

But Apple wants to me to bring a lot of lube to the Apple Store and buy that $2000 Apple Studio Display (you cannot height adjust the basic $1600 model) instead, as Apple computers only work with their own displays (and I'm sure they do it on purpose for more $$$$$).
