Honestly I think I might just not update it anymore. Twice I've got stuck in restore mode until I eventually got it working.

I own the Studio Display since March 20th and after two months I can say that I am very pleased with it. The display quality is very good and color accuracy is great. The speakers sound amazing, much better than anything else that Apple has produced so far. The web camera is good for video conferencing, which is the reason I use it. Overall very pleased. I had one glitch though. Before the last update audio stopped working and I had to power the monitor off and then back on. I hope this doesn't happen again. Apart from that this is really a great display.

The webcam is at least "good enough" now after the latest firmware updates. When I compare its quality to my old cam (an Anker Powerconf C300) the differences are slight at best. I think with the M1 machines living up to Apple's hype, we've forgotten that Apple typically overpromises and under delivers, at least for the 1.0 version.

At any rate, for Zoom calls and web conference the webcam works great, and it's nice to get rid of another cable.

Quick question about the Studio Display to you owners if I may: does turning the brightness all the way down result in a completely blacked-out screen?

No, it's unlike the MacBooks dimming. The Studio Display just gets very dim, but not blacked-out.

Hi All,
When using the Apple TV App on macOS, I would like to be able to view the streaming bitrate. Just started watching Prehistoric Planet and when I click on the "Video" menu "Info" and all the rest of grayed out. Would just be able to verify some things while a video is playing. Thanks!

Here is my setup, still need to finish cable management. I changed everything in my home office this year. Went with clean, black and white. There was a lot of browns in here before.

I posted a long note about my transition from 20 years of owning iMacs....to now going forward with the separate display and computer lifestyle. We will see how it goes. Running M1 MBA right now. I will upgrade to M2 Max MBP or Studio when they come out, still deciding between full desktop or "desktop laptop".

Love your set up.

I'm switching from iMac + MacBook Pro to MBP + Studio Display soon too.

Can you share how you're finding this set up?

I thought I was lucky yesterday finding an unit available to pick up.
Then after bring a unit home, I found this small but noticeable dust inside the screen.
It is not super big and not easy to notice at a normal viewing distance, but not a thing that I expect to see from 1600$ product.
I can ask for replacement or fix, but I am afraid that it will take 8~10 weeks to get a new unit if they accept this to be replaced.
What would you guys recommend? anyone had a dead pixel(or pixels) or dust trapped in ASD?

Return it - otherwise you will always search for this imperfection.

I had a speck like that inside one of mine. I sent it back for a replacement but decided I didn't actually enjoy a dual screen setup so I asked Apple to process a refund on the defective one. Now I just have one display.

Basically this is not something can be easily open and fixed right?
phew.. the problem is that I am not sure if I can get the better unit after waiting for months (given that dust or dead pixel free, 'perfect' unit could be rare or at least random enough)

I think the dead pixel, or dust unit, is the exception. Otherwise this forum would be full of complaints.

My ASD is without any dirt or death pixels. Guess you had just bad luck. I would return it otherwise you will always see it.

Now I know what was the reason, I am more relaxed. Let's see how it goes with the next update.

But secretly I am hoping, there aren't too much updates for the ASD.

Yeah... It's a shame. I like the product except that small dust. I have to think whether I can bear that <0.5mm size black dot or not. Actually, I have been using ultrafine 5k but I can't say that this is actually better than that several hundred dollar cheaper option. Decisions...

It’s brighter, but if you turn the brightness down from 100% it supports EDR for a wider dynamic range than the LG. It has wider viewing angles, and doesn’t wobble when you type. For all the complaints about the webcam, it’s better quality than the LG. If none of that matters, it’s a good thing you already have the LG, because they aren’t selling it right now.

I agree. I can actually see that ASD has better color accuracy as LG one tends to be more and more blue tinted when it is set towards 100% brightness. That means RGB is not scaling equally. But the units that I have dont show that much brightness difference as seen in spec sheets. I can sense better contrast from ASD and that is an improvement actually.

It’s unacceptable, just get a replacement unit (stuff happens!)

Just received my SD yesterday, after testing it a bit, I noticed a slight pink/red/warm hue on the right side of the screen when I look at it from the center. If I move towards the right side which has this color shift, I don't see anything! I mostly notice it with bright/white backgrounds, I don't really see anything with darker backgrounds. Also if I move the SD a bit further back, it gets hardly visible, so I guess it changes with viewing angles/distance.

Is this standard IPS glow or something? Does it have something to do with the glass coating? Has any of you noticed anything like this on their SD or am I just being paranoid?

Attached a picture of it, although it is not as visible as shown here, but it is there.

Ok so after a few days of usage, I think this discoloration is just the glass coating, it disappears with viewing angles, so I think it doesn’t have to do anything with the backlight. I also read in an other thread that the SD has a green or purple glass coating to it!

Do you guys notice anything like this on your SD? When viewed at a certain angle, or even when faced front, a slight change of hue on the display?

I got stuck in restore mode with the last two updates. I am hoping for the same thing!
