it already is on the Gen 2:

Thanks for sharing! Does it pop out easily? Or require a ton of force like the OG HomePod's cable?

You know what would be amazing? A MagSafe top with a round puck that you could remove and place in the room when you're using it.
For $100 more, I don't know that I would like to have the iPhone mounted to a speaker unless it had more functions than when it wasn't mounted. Otherwise what is the point.

Those iPod/iPhone docks have been on life support for years, and only provided by cheap manufacturers.

The only thing I do want is MagSafe for the iPad so I can get a MagSafe stand for it. The rest can connect wirelessly.

If all they have done is stick a rather pointless screen on the top in place of the touch glass with lights, why has it taken them so long? Other speakers like the Echo Show range work because the speaker serves a purpose other then a music control screen, it shows the time or news, weather, videos.
The only time this Apple one will show anything useful is when it is being interacted with by hand. If this is what they have done then it seems very odd and a bit of a 'me too' attempt. But as they have that feature of your phone being a clock display when charging then I doubt they'll make a device dedicated to that task.

That would be great if it really supports Wifi 6(e) fully. This would sure allow multi-channel audio. The current models limits the wifi to barely 72Mbps (20MHz channel); major design fault.

If Apple creates a trade-in programme for HomePod (mini), I sure would replace all my eight HomePod mini's, if I can get the new ones with wifi 6 at a reduced price.

Because I don't think that the older HomePod's can be grouped together with the newer ones for multi-channel, unless Apple allows them on a separate wifi channel to keep them from breaking down the main wifi 6 network. I already have a few of my current HomePod mini's on a single channel of the 2.4GHz wifi to prevent hogging the main 5GHz network.

I agree. And can’t see the point. The echo show can’t do anything an iPhone or iPad can’t. So there is no point.

Allowing for Ethernet connections via USB would also circumvent the disaster that is HomePod wifi...

Has anyone been able to get the HomePod to synch to audio from a MacBook playing video? It's always been out of synch for me on a pair of OG HomePods.

I just want a Homepod that sounds two times better than Homepod 1st Gen. and 3 times better than Homepod 2nd Gen.

PS My Homepods have Siri disabled and I don't miss it.

I’ve got a pair if mini's and they’ve always been perfect.

An upward facing display doesn't make sense. I think it will be more like the iPhone in StandBy mode. Think of an Apple HomePod version of a Tidbyt. Tidbyt has already proven that there is space in the market for this type of device.

Something nobody asked for... Is apple losing touch with practical design? I can't stand all the handoff integrations and screens that show me the same thing on every single device.

Don't need a screen on a speaker. Fix Siri before you make more speakers.

Meanwhile, I’d be happier with better sound.

I’d love it. It’d make it easier to control basic music/podcast functions like skip, fast forward/reverse etc.

I'm not sure if ethernet would make it much better. I work in television broadcasting and ever since radio/television systems have transitioned from dedicated connections to IP networks, keeping every channel in sync is harder than ever. In fact, when something breaks it immediately breaks multiple channels instead of just one or two.

Personally I think that the current AirPlay2 isn't bad, but it wouldn't hurt to have the option for a dedicated wire between HomePods in stereo mode.

You use them with your Mac? And they're in synch with video, even on YouTube?
Yeah. Sorry for the delay, I had to pair them, as I put them in different rooms.

Using the Home app, I put them in the same room (in my case, the office) and then it immediately asks if you want to have them paired. I said yes naturally. I selected the Office HomePods in Control Centre as per picture and it worked. I tried it with the Music App, and then Youtube. Works perfectly...

Maybe separate into different rooms and then put them back and re-pair them?

Thanks! I've sadly tried everything, and so did Apple support. I just stopped using them in that way.

Much easier. No perilous yanking required!

The plug is wider than OG - so if you want to thread it through a wall or cabinet you’ll need to drill a bigger hole.
