Having owned and/or used every iteration of MacBook from 11-17", the 15" is the sweet spot for me: portable but not too cramped when on the go. When in the studio, I connect to an external display, so screen size is moot.

If they release a 15" MacBook Air M2 in Midnight (please drop the Air moniker and let's go with just MacBook & MacBook Pro), that will be my next MacBook.

I mean.. if you say so. In the parts of corporate space I've been in, the PC laptops have also been 13" for the most part.
In our company, you can choose between PC and Mac and there are small (13”) and large (15/16”) options for each. I prefer the smaller, more portable models but others do choose the bigger screens. I’m currently stuck with a 15” MBP because my 13” MBP died during covid lockdowns and the 15” was the only thing they had in stock at that time.

I’m not the market for a 15” MacBook or MacBook Air but I know people who are. They have 13” Airs but would jump at the chance to get one with a larger screen but they are never going to spend the money for a 16 MBP.

I would be very happy with a 15" MBA with the performance and battery life promised by the new M2 MBA. My ideal would be a machine the size and weight of the 15" MS Surface Laptop 4 but with improved battery life and performance. I have a 16" MBPro M1 Max and it is a fantastic machine, but it is too heavy to be considered a handy portable machine that can travel with me. My M1 MBA is my current goto portable or my 15" Surface Laptop 4, but the battery life is not good for the Surface.

However, I suspect it will not be until late 2023 before we get it, if it really exists and it is not vaporware.

Is 15-inch a sweet spot? I don't think Apple will re-introduce a 15-inch class notebook again. Notebook running macOS, 13.3" (MacBook Pro M2 and MacBook Air M1), 13.6" (MacBook Air M2), 14.2" and 16.2" (MacBook Pro M1 Pro/M1 Max). I think we're missing a 12" model.

iPadOS: from 8.3" to 12.9" in five different SKU. There's rumor with a bigger display iPad.
As I type on my 2017 MBP 15, and considering I have a 2019 and 2022 16" MBP's, I'll be FIRST in line to buy a new 15" and hopefully it's a 15 MB Air. The new 16" MBP is a brick in comparison and the 14 just wasn't right for me so I returned it. My 15 is the perfect size and weight. Too bad Apple keeps going backwards with their designs. This 2017 laptop is a dream other than the ****** keyboard.

In my opinion this machine will fill the biggest hole in Apple's product line. It has never made sense that they only offer this size of screen if consumers are willing to shell out more than two thousand dollars. For a lot of us, a 15 inch screen is a necessity whether we are "Pros" or not because our eyes are bad.

That is true. A 15" that is affordable would be nice, just like in 2009 when there was an affordable 15".

I have a feeling people who brought the 16-inch (and then 15-inch) were often used as desktop replacement, the size and weight might not be top of the list. Yes, these were the only models with better graphics over the 13-inch during the Intel era. I had the 2016, now 2017 and 2018 13-inch MacBook Pro. The keyboard on 2017 and 2018 are far better than the 2016.

Any particular reason? (Size, weight, looks?)
Yes, Yes and Yes. The newest 16MBP is a brick...Heavy and big case. It's rather pathetic if I can be candid. Battery life is solid however, but did I mention it's a brick? I'm hoping for a 15"MB-Air at this point as I've flat-out given up on MBP's.

Seems contradictory to your user name. But hey, to each their own.

That's the rumor, but there is an article by TSMC stating mass production isn't stated until late this year for deliveries early next.
before you said

Well, the article states it'll be the M2 Pro, not the M1 Pro. Furthermore, TSMC has come forth and stated their 3nm process isn't ready for release yet until late next year.

So is it early next year or late next year? TMSC last week or so said this year

From TMSC website

"N3 technology will offer complete platform support for both mobile and HPC applications, which is expected to receive multiple customer product tape-outs in 2021. In addition, volume production is targeted in second half of 2022."

Do you have a citation for either of your claims?
