I workout and have been doing so for last 2 decades. I mean actually workout. I have read literature and researched it extensively. This is a joke.

One of the jokes is, that you will loose weight, when exercising. It really cracks me up every time.
The body is a complex machine. Weight loss starts in the kitchen. Activity (if at all) only contributes to ~20% of the weight loss success.

But as long as Apple can milk money out of it...

Apple is milking fitness, not weight loss. Being fit is much more than just being at some ideal weight or BMI. It’s entirely possible to be in excellent health, while still carrying some extra pounds!

Plus, if you live longer, you buy more Apple products. Win/win 🙂

So I imagine for people looking to do the Cycle videos, would you be looking at purchasing a stationary bike or a bike trainer to turn your road bike into a stationary while inside?
Any suggestions for the trainers? There are too many types and I am confused. I am also not sure if it would too boring compared to real outdoor biking.

I believe Apple has been thinking about how to do fitness for a long time, going back to when Nike first debuted Nike+ which worked with iPod.

Remember these?

However, I'm surprised that it has taken this long to get the product out, and that it was announced without a release date apart from later this year. That doesn't really make sense to me unless it is to purposefully allow flexibility on some other related product announcement such as the new iPhone.

I wish we could use the service without having an Apple Watch. Maybe they'll allow it, but everything I've read so far says the watch is required to use the service at all (not just to get the on-screen info from the watch).

Well that watch SE isn’t so expensive is it? S3 is even cheaper now.

You know this is a joke because you have already been able to try many of the workouts and they are sub par? You spoke to several medical and fitness experts, they had done a detailed evaluation and this was not a great program? You know nothing further than what you saw in their announcement and ads and so you are just making things up?

You are assuming that people only exercise to lose weight.

People exercise to be healthy. Cardio for the heart, and to have a general quality of life. People lift weights to build strength.

Sadly, just working out is not going to help you maintain anything, especially since your metabolism will adapt to a higher work load. You also need to eat less. Much less. MUCH much less. Ask anybody in Biggest loser, they can't maintain their losses.

As far as I can remember, the fitness craze started in the 80s, just as the levels of obesity started to climb. So more of the same ain't gonna help. People need to regulate their eating, and fasting is the way to go.

They can work out too, exercise is always good. But it's not the deal breaker here.

So where's Apple's FastApp helping people stay on a 36:12 or another fasting schedule?

But Alan, he actually works out. I’m with you. He can say he works out all he wants but I’ve quickly learned by reading through this thread that there are many differing viewpoints on health. Some say fasting, some say working out, some say ‘actually’ working out.

For me, moving around and having a good time while doing it and bettering myself everyday is my plan. Whether that be a Peloton ride, an Aaptiv strength workout, or a Fitness+ core class, I’m more than all in.

"Given that Fitness+ provides videos that are ideal for people who are unable to visit gyms and other facilities, it has been seen as a logical response to the ongoing health crisis"

And it won't stop there.. May as well cancel that membership now, and settle at home for good.. Its going that way anyway. COVID just happed to fill a space.

98% do, yeah.

Yup. Whenever I see comments whose summary is: “I have done something and no other approach can possibly be valid” I am always amused.

Many are valid, as they are about what works for each individual. I am motivated by metrics and challenges. Others are the opposite.

My bf and I started using the Daily Yoga iOS for the Yoga challenge in 2019. We liked it and have been doing it every day since. They have done a huge amount of work and really improved it (added an Apple TV, improved iPad support, etc.). We also love Streaks Workout (another part of our daily routine). Fitness+ looks like an interesting addition to our exercise program.

Of course it was planned before the pandemic. They saw Peloton doing this a long time ago, and decided they wanted to get in on the action.
More than just Peloton. There are a lot of startups in this space, some are video only (like Daily Burn), some use special displays (like Mirror), some use machines (like Peloton). Given the Apple Watch and Apple’s moves into fitness, either producing their own system or acquisitions made a lot of sense. Considering a system like Mirror (initial costs of $1.5k) or Peloton, the Apple TV and Apple Watch seem positively cheap.

Tonal is the most interesting one to me. A bit more than I want to spend right now, but given that it integrates with my Apple Watch and Apple Health/Fitness it is interesting. I hope that they do a further integration with Fitness+.

I like the ability to use it when I travel or just move around. Use it with my iPad in my hotel room or friends' house, on the Apple TV in my house with the gear I have or with just my iPhone at the park. Metrics and streaks are big motivators for me, so that makes this very appealing.

Peloton bike is rather cheap.
Wahoo Kickr Bike starts at 3500$

Apple one premium (which includes music, tv, arcade, storage...) is $30/mo

The cheapest peloton bike is $1,895 + $50/mo for peloton sub.
