If they offer better way to manage Playlists, I will switch from Spotify

I prefer Beats way of managing music and the search function is better with Beats. With Spotify the search is abysmal. You get all kinds of unrelated stuff popping up at the top with random new comers who are doing their version of <current hit song> that you like.

It's interesting that no one is talking about this (or at least I haven't seen it). I will not use "Beats" out of spite. Very frustrated with what Apple has become.

First of all... You're late.

Secondly, Apple is not trying to kill free streaming music. It's trying to negotiate a deal where the music isn't free but it's cheaper than the $9.99/mo for premium music streaming service Here. I think Apple should bundle it into the cost of iPhones/iPads/Watches.

Considering Apple wants to kill off ad-supported services for music streaming you should really compare this to a paid Spotify subscription. And that adds a lot more to the total package than just being ad free.

My thoughts on the matter is that if you are not interested in getting rid of the 'annoying teenage demographic ads every 15 minutes' by paying for Spotify (and getting better sound quality and offline sync/play as well) you probably won't pay for any other service either.

A paid Spotify subscription or not, the service is still mediocre. Terrible user interface, user experience and not much to differentiate it from its competitors (who are subpar in their own way).

Just because someone is not interested in paying $10 to have Spotify Premium doesn't mean they won't do it for Apple's service. I personally am not interested in Spotify for the reasons mentioned above. With 'Apple Music', all they need to do is match Spotify's price and content (easy), and differentiate themselves with superior UX and exclusive content (that's in iTunes ballpark) while providing a seamless experience in their Apple ecosystem (what they are all about).

Yeah, I figured I'm late.

By them still charging, even if cheaper, are they not still trying to kill free streaming music? Seems to me like they are attempting to kill it, by trying to convince music labels to remove their music from Youtube and to stop licensing free music services.

So... The worst of Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace all rolled into one?

What exactly is bad about this? I guess I'm a little confused, though not surprised by the knee-jerk negative reactions.

What's wrong with Spotify's UX?

For 9.99 a month I want to be able to stream anything from the iTunes catalog of music. Give me that and I'll leave Spotify. I really don't care about any social features.

If it doesn't have lossless streaming, it doesn't matter to me.

I'd be ok if it was the current quality for streaming but with an updated iTunes Music Store offering higher quality lossless downloads to buy. That would be a perfect balance for me to discover new music using the monthy streaming service then buy a HQ lossless version of the album if I really like it.

So, Apple have basically just killed iTunes sales. Though I'd like to pretend I'll buy music - I'm not sure I will.

On average I buy an album a month, so if the streaming service costs the same I might have a tough decision.

They use a single hamburger button to navigate the entire app, even for Search. It takes 3 taps to get to Playlists from the main menu. 5 to get to a specific song in a playlist.

Compare it with the Music app in 8.3 or better yet 8.4 and you'll get an understanding of where Apple will go with 'Apple Music' and its UX. Much more seamless and intuitive. Not to mention that it will be a native app built for Apple products.

And you get Ping 2.0

We're still waiting for iTunes Radio in the UK. And Apple Pay! From what I understand both of these are still a long way off for us let alone the rest of the world. Perhaps Apple could spend more time thrashing out the necessary deals to get these existing services out to everyone first before introducing something else that most of us won't see for years.

iTunes Radio will go international in June.

It's up to the banks in the UK to accept Apple Pay. Not much Apple can do about it.

I hope they name it Pong.

That's been taken already.

Anyone else hopeful that it will become available during the Keynote? With the public release of 8.4, instead of iOS 9.

I think it will make a lot of sense. 8.4 is already in beta and the whole release is just for the music app. And the music app is laying a lot of the groundwork for the service, it's clear where it borrows from Beats. Leaving it on iOS 9 would be frustrating to current Beats users who own the watch.

Not at all. It is the best streaming service by a huge margin today. And it is of course constantly evolving and improving; Spotify in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 are four very different experiences with huge steps forward for each iteration.

I get a feeling that those criticizing Spotify - and especially the interface - have not tried it for quite some time, if at all.

I don't see anything in iTunes today that is in any way providing a better experience than Spotify, so if Apple is going to improve on that part they have to radically rework it. And they probably won't do that.

If you want bongs, pings, plinks and other assorted notification-related sounds interrupting your music playback, then fair enough.

Otherwise, Spotify still needs to offer proper AirPlay support!
