I agreed, it's a funny thing. For me is swimming, I have been 108 days closing the rings. I never expected this would be a motivator but here it is. I miss my Omega Seamaster but my shape and health is so much better now due the Apple Watch. The data gathering is very interesting to see where and how you can improve your workouts. Great job Apple!

You wouldn't be the first person that I've seen with a watch on each wrist. I know someone who wears an Apple Watch on his right wrist and one of his collection of mechanical watches on the left.

Doesn't your Apple Watch increase its expectations every week to raise the bar until you can't keep up??

Yes. My Watch has more than doubled my calorie goal in the 3 months since I started this streak. I know I'm progressing because the hard goal to meet in the first month is just half the way there towards my current goal — which I manage to complete every day.

This watch has inspired me to get out there, and keep working. I'm pretty consistent, 6-7 days a week. Just did 10 days in a row. However, I am really pissed off at this. No one, and I mean no one, should work out every single day. The interface is simplistic. Just do everything all the time. I'm 65 and it's not good for me to not put a rest day in there once in a while- like once a week. Even elite athletes do that... at some interval. There should not be this emphasis on working out every single day - it ought to be 6 days, or something more complex, like rest days, easy days and harder days. What is wrong with these people that design this? Just like most everything else on the phone, they need to realize that we are not all 12 years old. And we are a community that can afford their products...
I don’t know about you, but my Watch counts most of my walking as exercise (but I’m a pretty fast walker), even without ever entering the Workout app. No need to do an intensive workout. Being modestly active every day is a good idea for just about everyone.

This created the simple motivation that I needed.
I still remember the naysayers that said crap to me about how I would give up if this is all I needed to get motivated.
I have been filling all 3 circles for 3 months straight so far with multiple days looping the exercise ring 3 times or more.
So, whoever is thinking if this will motivate them, I would say try it, given from my experience.

I’m still waiting for my feb challenge to be awarded Apple! Give me that challenge completing badge and move on!

Seriously. I have completed 7 workouts that are longer than 15 min. And yet the app only registers 3? Do I really need to do workout WITHOUT the fk phone?

I still close my rings every day, but to be honest my motivation is a bit less after I achieved 1000 move rings a month or so ago. They need to keep this interesting. Some monthly challenges are ridiculous (but I still close them anyway). They could do a better job from an active person's perspective.
Before the Pokémon Go app started misbehaving so much, I used to use the integration with Apple Watch to hatch the Pokémon eggs I’d collected. The app started causing problems with my S8+ and my iPhone 7 Plus a few months ago so I’ve since removed it.

There might be other third party apps that integrate with the way Apple Watch measures activity. Unfortunately they are likely to be demanding on the battery of the phone and the watch.

While probably not a popular opinion here. I think Apple trying to be a health company is causing all these bugs and mistakes.
Apple became successful because of technology. Stay focused on the tech part. Not the PR stuff we see daily now.

Apple wants to expand its wings. That’s not a bad thing but the tech part of Apple has suffered in the last couple of years. Maybe they are stretching themselves to thin. Maybe it’s growing pains. Phone tech has basically reached its limits.

I just wish function was important to Apple now. I’m don’t care it the phone is 1 mm thicker and weighs 6 grams more.

Apple has added a new "Close Your Rings" page to its website that highlights how the Activity app works on Apple Watch.

activity-rings.jpg

The page details how Apple Watch users can close the Move ring by hitting their personal goal of active calories burned, close the Exercise ring by completing at least 30 minutes of activity, and close the Stand ring by getting up and moving around for at least one minute during 12 different hours in the day.Apple also provides tips about how to use and customize certain fitness-related features of the Apple Watch, and highlights Achievements and Monthly Challenges that can be earned by closing the rings in the Activity app.

While the page doesn't provide any brand new information, it should be useful for people who are considering purchasing the Apple Watch. Apple has been highlighting individual features on its website more often lately, including a new page that promotes augmented reality use cases powered by its ARKit platform.

I gotta say, it has been amazing for me. I was a 3 day a week jogger for the most part that ate too much and since wearing my new Apple Watch beginning 1/1/18 I have missed just a single day of closing my rings and have had a formal workout 7 days a week all but that one day. I have never been so motivated and constantly monitor my rings and what I have "left" to do to get them to close. I just wish it could also motivate me a bit more to eat less LOL...

Fair view, but you are right, I think it is a bit misguided. Technology has become more personal every single year. Apple started it with the Mac GUI in 1984, its push into music, laptops for the masses, and most importantly... the computer that all humanity currently has in its pocket. This push into personal technology continues with a wearable device that knows you and that includes your health. When Apple stops advancing technology into the personal space they will cease to be a leader into the future.

difference between move and exercise?

I'd also recommend setting the move calories goal at just above what you might do on a typical rest day. It pushes you just a bit but lets you close the rings daily. If you set the move goal at the average of your calories per day across a week it will be difficult to reach your goal if you have rest days.
[doublepost=1518889085][/doublepost]I also want to say that the "rings" dynamic has been so much more powerful to me than a "step" goal on a garmin or fitbit tracker. a goal of 10,000 steps is to variable, you may not be able to reach it everyday and those may include incredible fitness days where you swim a ton, lift a ton, or bike a ton. because the goals for the apple watch are time and calorie based it is much more inclusive of all the activities are do for fitness. it also acknowledges not every step is created the same... 6,000 steps on the run is more beneficial than 10,000 in a slow walk... the use of calories to power the ring acknowledges this.

LOL, I thought of this before but I think it would look very silly to pull it of.
My Omega sits in a box since December 2016. I used only it 3x at night after closing my rings. Ideally, I would like Apple to have create a band instead a watch so I could use my fancy watch and still get the benefit of the AW but...maybe someday but I don’t think it will ever happens.
Well, no wonder the Swiss watchmakers might be concern with Apple recent success selling more AW than all combined Swiss watches.

The one thing I hate about it is the streaks. I want to have the ability to use other dressier watches, but not lose my streak because I don’t wear the thing one day. Even if it was just for the move goal - my iPhone already tracks steps, so let them get injected into the activity app when there is no data from the watch...

Just got an AW3 and this was my thought as well. Is it bad that my thought was to use the bigger band and see if I can wear it as an ankle bracelet? Lol

I closed my rings today for the 861st time in a streak (and my calorie goal is 1000) ... the rings and the activity app keep hitting all my right OCD spots. Turned me from a couch potato to a long distance runner.

But I am also planning on ditching the watch once I reach 1000 move streak :) Currently I am also wearing a Garmin 935. Trying to figure out if I can get health app to recognize all data from Garmin correctly so I don't need the Apple Watch anymore to close the rings :D

Thanks Apple Watch for 2.5 wonderful years!

If you are feeling particularly lazy, get up to have pee/make a cup of tea etc about 2 mins before the hour. Unless you're very fast, you won't be back to your preferred slobbing location until a minute or so after the hour. Result is you only need to get up once every 2 hours to get 2 'stand' ring sections closed off.

This is how I manage to take two hour naps.
