Thanks for a good reply! I am looking into my relative fine and fast 2014 Macbook pro. Because I learned from earlier lesson with only 4GB, I got it with 16GB and it has never had any memory issues for almost 9 years now. Now I consider 16 or 32GB memory. I like that it can be used for 8-10 years or even more. I am not a heavy user. Though on the new Macbook pro €420 for that upgrade is a lot. Maybe I will get the 2021 model or wait for a refurbished. The problem now is everything is integrated on the same chip now. So I'm guessing the pricing is completely out of whack with how they used to do it when they could order memory independently. Now everything is subject to the build process of the whole SOC and all the yield issues you can get (I believe only a percentage of silicon a chip maker creates works properly or something...).
So they just charge a premium for it now. I suppose if 90% of buyers only buy the base config then its a lot more expensive to produce the 10% SOC than it would be if they could just add ram separately. Add the apple tax and your at 420 etc..
Apparently the speed of the memory is meant to negate the need of additional memory. However, in my use on an 8gb MacBook Pro M1 I think that's a lot of bs. I fell for it sadly. You probably need minimum 16gb ram to really use the computer without any issues unless your literally only running a few things at a time.
I actually find my 24gb iMac i5 2017 acts more responsively than my MacBook Pro M1 8gb just because of the extra ram. I always get "free up system memory" dialog boxes. Its annoying. Wish I'd just got the 16gb model.
You talking URL or actual release? 😉Likely planned for an April event.
For all the talk Apple does about “diversity,“ they don’t do it in the one area it is needed the most.China is becoming increasingly risky and unreliable, but moving all production elsewhere is basically not feasible now.
Two hard pills to swallow, but some people only focus on the first one.
I don't think that's the reasonSo.. these are basically last year's (2022) MacBook Pro models? That is why we didn't see an iconic Midnight M2 MacBook Pro. Yeah, I'm still mad about that. Lost one day of sleep over it for nothing. Feeling salty... 😒
👀 My eyes on MacBook Air 15" (Midnight Edition).
It’s weird but nowadays I feel like ram is the most important part of the configuration now. With everyone using up tons of browser windows and people rendering videos etc. ram is what’s needed. Thanks for a good reply! I am looking into my relative fine and fast 2014 Macbook pro. Covid related production issues in the factories assembling the MacBook ProsIf they don't have 3nm chips, then why were they delayed?
In that case you might need a DisplayLink adaptor to connect two monitors to one video stream. Depends on your connections and display resolutions.True but I need a portable device, the m2 chip can support 2 displays, with the m2 Mac mini you can hook up 2 external displays.
With the m2 air you can have an external display and an internal display.

Will we ever see an Apple with a "perfect" business in terms of its hardware output rate where it is just rolling out product after product with no hiccups? It will be fascinating to see. Maybe not during Tim's tenure as CEO.
The M2 Air I believe sold like hotcakes, but I agree with your inkling about the 14/16 inventory and the delay. My guess is the M2 Airs which a lot us feel are pointless upgrades were not selling well and they did not want another product out there to possibly canabilize it's sales.
Plus with all the discounts, it's possible there was still plenty of 14 and 16 Macs in stock that they wanted to get rid of before offering newer versions.
I would like to see the data that the M2 Airs sold like "hotcakes" Apple themselves said year to date Mac sales for the quarter would be significantly lower shortly after its release. And a recent report posited that the 14 and 16" MacBook Pros are selling better than the Airs with the MacBook Pro accounting for 54% of Mac sales and the MacBook Air at 46%.The M2 Air I believe sold like hotcakes, but I agree with your inkling about the 14/16 inventory and the delay.
OK well ask them. That’s why I said “I believe”. No one knows. So take your argument elsewhere.I would like to see the data that the M2 Airs sold like "hotcakes" Apple themselves said year to date Mac sales for the quarter would be significantly lower shortly after its release. And the new Airs are getting attention for being huge disappointments in value/performance compared to the 14" pros and M1 Airs.
