Oh right that makes no sense. Maybe they just want to get 10.10 done by june and then return to ios 8. Perhaps there is a tie-in between 10.10 and ios 8? I dunno... who knows no one does besides Tim Cook and the few engineers.

Well no. According to the report iOS 8 will be released without key features that will later be introduced with 8.1.

I just don't believe that, that will happen.

But what would be the point of 8.0 if key features were missing? Better wait for 8.1 and call it 8.0!

Yeah. I don't believe the report.

A design isn't invalidated by being a decade old. In fact, a design is actually VALIDATED by being kept for so long. But you're possibly not an actual usability design expert, and wouldn't understand "design for functionality" vs "design for aesthetics". Most people aren't. That's why most people flock to change for the sake of change, and then mindlessly bash the people who object to it, because the objectors really know what they're talking about, as it's their job to know (being called "whiners" or "afraid of change" by those who want change for no functional reason).

Wow. Everything about your post just screams "don't listen to my design preferences". Including your user name.

Wow, way to lay that smack down. BOOM! My word, I forget that everyone who objects to iOS7 does so because the OS became significantly less user friendly, and that I'm a moron for insinuating otherwise. I also forgot that everyone who comments their dislike for iOS7 are experts for whom "it's their job to know".

Allow me to fill you in on a few, very minor, inaccuracies with your criticism however: whilst it is true that iOS7 came with its share of bugs, did little to dramatically improve UI and generally ran operations slower than iOS6 did, these changes are rarely what the criticism of it aim at, and these changes do not represent as large a step back as you are hinting at. The vast, vast majority of complaints on this forum centre around one of two issues: 1) "I hate this flat design, why have all these pixels then produce monochrome icons??" and 2) "I installed iOS7 on my four year old iPhone 4 and now my phone is slow! Stupid Apple for not designing future software with my dated hardware in mind!" These are the people I was taking aim at. Please also climb down from your high horse and stop talking as if iOS7 is a professional platform for only the hardcore to use - this isn't Mac OS 9, Apple products, especially their mobile range, are now targeted firmly at user simplicity.

There were issues with the launch of iOS7, the auto-download of the update was most concerning, and the number of bugs was apparently very high although I personally experienced few of them on my iOS devices. However small sacrifices in functionality to set up a future development path are not unheard of in Apple's history: OS 10.0 was absurdly limited when it first launched but grew to a pinnacle with 10.6 which was unrivalled. iOS 7 was a massively important step in reunifying the iOS experience - Apple's trump card is that it controls most of your UI, which has both ups and downs but if you're going to do it, do it right. You design something with absolutely identical themes between all areas of the phone so that if you can complete an operation in one app you can do it in all. Stop chatting like iOS 7 lost "design for functionality" because it didn't. I'm sorry if I don't need a box around all my buttons to tell me they are buttons - should I find an add-on for any browser which puts boxes around all hyperlinks I'll be sure to link it to you, since this concept is clearly bewildering to you. Using iOS7 on an iPhone 5 or newer is a smooth and pleasurable experience; there was no requirement for iPhone 4 users to upgrade, and those who did then left features like parallax on were/are idiots. Sure, iOS 6 was very slightly faster, but not noticeably so. Running a purely terminal OS is also faster, since the graphics requirements are so minimal, but we've moved on a bit since then.

tl;dr don't assume that I am a moron for embracing iOS 7 because YOU don't like it, or find it as useable. My decisions for supporting it don't stem from going goggly-eyed at the semi translucent effects, I believe the reunification of the OS to a single design theme and proper implementation of features such as Notification Centre to be significant UI improvements.
