Actually, it was held in San Jose from 1989 until around 2000. (I don't remember the exact year it switched to San Francisco.) The new venue is the old venue (San Jose Convention Center) but, I understand, it's been greatly expanded since they were last there. Back then, the conference had around 2500 attendees and the center was full.

Sorry, you are correct. My first year was 2001*.

*Maybe 02, I remember because a lot of people were walking around with leather jackets with the OSX logo on the back and I asked someone and they said they handed them out the year before.

WWDC keynote is so excruciating to watch after the fact on a video presentation on the web, that I can't imagine anyone shelling out 16 bills + lodging to just go there to watch it. In fact I'll hazard to guess that nobody would inflict such pain upon themselves willfully. They've become dreadful.

I disagree, waiting in line started at 3 am just to get a seat in the first 1/3 of the auditorium is excruciating and it doesn't matter if you start waiting at 6pm the day before(yes people do that) you still won't get closer than about row 10/15 because of the press and VIPs and Apple employees.

[doublepost=1491004957][/doublepost]It was nice in the beginning because it was for developers, real developers, not script kiddies, not CIOs, not MBAs. People did not spend $1599 to go to the keynote and not care about the sessions.

Apple should independently sell tickets to the keynote so real developers, people who breathe ObjC and (gak Swift) can attend sessions that expand thought, impart knowledge and accelerate product development.

the POSERS have overwhelmed WWDC. After attending every year since 1989 to the announcement of the iPhone, it is depressing knowing that the people who really benefit from this event, who really value this event, frequently are excluded.

Videos of sex are just as good as sex? Yea, right... Same for WWDC.

If you don't know (or are not going to spend 60 hrs a week learning) Objective C or at least Swift, AND you are going to WWDC, you SUCK!

As someone in the sector who makes such decisions, I would hire one of those "script kiddies" over someone with your attitude ten times over. What a vile post.

"Developers who are not selected to purchase a ticket will be able to watch both the keynote event and sessions with engineers through the Apple Developer website and through the WWDC app for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV."

And will have $1599 more in their pockets?

I have to wonder if the developers for Supercell ever attended these conferences before making it big.

I agree. I keep losing out on the lottery to people who don't take advantage of the full week.

This will be the first year that it isn't held in San Fran(they hate it when you call it that). I am excited to see the new venue and if they are going to try out any they things this year.
Some of us in California call San Francisco "Frisco" You should see the expressions of the SF locals when we call it that.

You know they hate it so you do it? What do you hate? Just asking.

Dude, Steve Jobs is dead! Way to be morbid and he was cremated anyways.

Ok a picture with Steve in an ashtray

Just an abbreviated way of saying San Fransisco especially in Messages.

By-the-way, I love Ghirardelli chocolate, best in the US. Been to Frisco and love the sights. It's an okay city.

I always wondered why people spend $ 3000+ (ticket + travel expenses) to watch a boring product reveal. But judging from the comments it seems to be a professional meet and greet event (creating business?) or developer school, learning new tricks? Stuck in high priced software projects and getting long needed help?

WWDC isn't as much of a "product reveal" (even though that's more or less the main public/media side of it) as much as it is essentially a week-long developer conference with workshops, networking, etc.

Funny to watch all the people ranting in this thread about how people pay $$$ for a 2 hour product reveal, completely misunderstanding what WWDC is about. It's a full week event with seminars, networking, tech talks, and 1000 Apple Engineers on-site to discuss and troubleshoot issues and new features of the SDK's. It really is a no-brainer if you're a developer and want to expand your knowledge and network.

Got my own Golden Ticket and couldn't be happier!
Looking forward to visiting the US and California for the first time and connecting with developers from all over the world.

Do you receive the email even when you dont win a ticket?

So do you think all that won already got the confirmation?

My Australian friend posted on FB he received his. He's ecstatic. So jealous, wish I could go. :) This year should be fun.

Chill dude, have some more memberberries.

Glad for those of you who had $1,600.00 to spend on the conference in these tough times.
