Apple today updated its "WWDC" app, changing the name to "Apple Developer" and announcing new year-round updates.

Apple says that the new Apple Developer app will provide "in-depth information from Apple experts all year round," with the app featuring developer news, videos, WWDC content, and more.

The Apple Developer app can also be used to enroll in the Apple Developer program on iPhone or iPad, though this functionality is currently limited to the United States. Membership is provided as an auto-renewable subscription, making it easier to keep a developer account active.

The Apple Developer app can be downloaded from the App Store for free. Those who had the WWDC app can install an update to get the new Apple Developer interface.

This is stupid. Renaming the app and probably soon the conference is just being vain!

developers are located worldwide and Apple pretty much sells products worldwide too.

so one has to ask why or whom at Apple is making such a vain decision? Whom is being ousted or who. Is being forgotten in relevance to this?

it’s like rebranding something just because with no real relevance ; kind of like the Ford Mach E.

It’s still worldwide, just not in the name, which is not that important anyway.

Why is everyone assuming that they’re going to change the name of WWDC too? The description literally says: “WWDC content...”
Well, yeah, if they’re planning on renaming the conference to XYZ and say “XYZ content,” people are going to wonder what the hell they’re talking about. Just because the description doesn’t provide a new name for the conference doesn’t mean that one isn’t going to happen.

That said, I doubt that they’re going to change the name of the conference. For better or worse, “WWDC” itself is essentially a brand at this point.

Here is a question... Why are you bitching so hard? How does this affect you?

Don't tell me, it requires iOS 13.2.3?
You can always use the ADC website (only been there since the 90's)

How does the name "Apple Developer" affect any of that?

who said they're renaming the conference? app specifically mentions it will feature "WWDC content"

it doesn't make sense to update a WWDC app with new developer content outside of WWDC days. make the app contain all developer content where WWDC is a subset of all things "developer" related.

well for one thing “developer” is singular. There’s a lot more than one developer.

I’m not bitching so hard. Nor at all.
It seems change at Apple is being done simply for the sake of change and many accept it just to roll along.

Example:

OS X to macOS just for cosmetic reasons and many on the boards think it’s a completely new OS when the kernel and many of the core apis remain.
- OS X has many ties to former NeXT employees that moved over to Apple and stayed until they’ve either retired or were ousted (Avi Tevanian, Netrand Serlet, and Scott Forstall). Yes Craig also came from NeXT yet he left for 8yrs to be a COO elsewhere then came back. Seems like there was a power struggle he didn’t like and when returned and Jobs began getting ill the turmoil with Forstall grew; we know the story.
Now this. There is nothing to stop apple from just releasing new content and be done with it. But let’s change things just because.
- Macworld name changed and one could make the same statements as I’ve done here. But Apple is no longer just about the Mac hence also Apple Computer name changed but it was for good reason. This change today or now yesterday has no real reason just a change. Why not ask why or consider potential reasons. Why shouldn’t Apple explain the change? Why should they? Maybe to eliminate potential or Rawal confusion as a reason.

That's not quite how it's meant, and certainly doesn't change anything in terms of developers or anything like that.

I never said the conference IS changing, I’m saying it’s probably going to.

and if you haven’t noticed more than 1 month after WWDC finished content has been added - at least via the TVOS app even if minimal. It has happened. Actually even up to the 11Pro AppleWatch 5 announcements.

World Wide Developer’s (plural) Conference. Sure you maybe right in that’s not how it’s meant. Yet they’re changing the name of the app, it’s just odd not to reflect developers as a plural but whatever.

Happy to see more dev outreach. I hope the content is actually good for current developers and teaches you things you probably didn’t know, rather than a bunch of tutorials explaining how to code to total newcomers.

Do you want to learn Swift? There are boatloads of apps, videos, books and tutorial articles to guide you through step-by-step. Do you want to learn about the different kinds of relocations seen by a linker? And why some architectures support some kinds but not others? That kind of low-level stuff is documented basically nowhere. You have to interpret what you can by piecing together scraps.

basically, I’d really like something like Raymond Chen’s oldnewthing blog, but from Apple.

Also, dub-dub isn’t getting renamed. Everybody chill.

Here’s something that may shock you. You can also use iMovie to make more than movie. And it is ok to make a one page document in Pages.

Developers is the plural, btw. Which Apple uses correctly, but you haven’t here - developer’s is the singular possessive.
