Some like another round of entitlement. Is the OP really griping about their 2+ year old watch and they think that jumping to a device that neither Apple nor Android, has no apps to speak of other than the ones it comes with, is controlled directly by a Chinese Corporation, is armed and with specs from over a year ago (the resolution is much smaller than the current series 3, despite the Stros being released just last December), and a comparatively microscopic amount of storage (it only has 2GB usable) is going to be even remotely usable over half that period?

Sure, whatever...

I've zero issues with folk pointing to the Stratos and saying they like it because of its reported 5 day battery life, or its price. But buy it for what it is - a cheap watch with limited features but does exactly what you want it to do at the time of purchase with zero expectations for any sort of longevity. However whining about a 2.5 year old Series 0 then stating they think the Stratos is the answer to all their woes is just plain laughable.
I assume you are a young man? I got a watch when i turned 15 not a smartphone.
Xiaomi watch i do not have to worry to much about the smart part. It does the same.. (yes apple watch does way more but mine sucks at it) :)
[doublepost=1529424861][/doublepost]
Then why didn't you return it?
I am not the only with these problems ... internet is full of it.
I was like all others with same issues hoping it would be better over time ... and it has been to some extend... but so much up and down and still not there. Not what i hoped when i purchased the watch. We are not even close when it comes to reliability.

I own everything apple and for me to consider xiaomi means there must be something wrong with the quality of the watch series 0 right? That my experiance even i love apple products and even picked up my watch in cupertino and i still consider xiaomi. Something must be wrong ehh ?
[doublepost=1529426986][/doublepost]
Then why didn't you return it?
Everyone reported watch being too slow and like everyone i was hoping for improvement but that has been 2 steps forward and 2 steps back
[doublepost=1529427178][/doublepost]
Then why didn't you return it?
Same as everyone else i was hoping for improvement that never came came.

Same makes me wonder... why the hell did i buy the atv 3 ( i live in denmark atv sucks here )

How many goddesses you know who are male? And no, I'm not 'young' either - my first computer was a Commodore Pet 2001 - look that up if you want to gauge my age.

So I speak from way too much experience. You may feel now that I'm just another old person telling you youngster's about life, but ignore us at your peril.

You have been happy and fairly problem free during your time with apple watch?
It does lots of things that I've been very happy with - gamified me into exercising and standing more, alerting me to texts (I never seem to notice the alerts on my phone), and allow me to dictate responses (my phone is not always right me me). If I have any complaint about my S0, it's that it doesn't tell time very well. It keeps very accurate time, of course. But I can always see what time it is merely by looking at the face of a conventional watch. On my Apple Watch, perhaps 1/3 of the time it doesn't light up. Eh.

All i am saying the series 0 (or any other series) watch is not be what i assumed i purchased (or they would have to do wonders with watch os4 before going os5) It has been up and down all the way so far... feel i paid 500$ to be a beta tester for a product and now it is “obsolete”

With a smart watch you go into different catagory (i still have my childhood watch and it runs perfect)

I just fear to be left behind with no progress and bad watch os. Because my watch is crap and have been since beginning.

Didn't you read the reviews before and immediately after the original Apple Watch was released? I knew exactly what I was getting into... that it would be a first generation product for Apple in a market category that was still in its infancy. That's one reason I bought an aluminum Sport instead of a Stainless Steel watch. I knew I'd probably want to upgrade in a couple of years or so. All smartwatches sold in 2015 were essentially beta units, but the original Apple Watch was significantly ahead of the competition.

For the first few months the original Apple Watch definitely felt like the first generation product it was, but again this is what I expected based on professional and consumer reviews. The release of watchOS 2 made a huge difference in terms of performance and functionality, and I feel like the original Apple Watch really hit its stride with watchOS 3. By that point the Apple Watch was performing beyond my expectations, but even with watchOS 2 it had cemented itself as one of my favorite gadget purchases ever. If the watch still wasn't living up to your expectations by watchOS 2, then we must have had very different expectations for it.

It wasn't until the release of watchOS 4 that I felt like perhaps I should not have upgraded the OS. The watch definitely slowed down after that, but it's still fine for the most part. I'm coming up on three years of having worn it every day, and I look forward to upgrading to either the Series 3 or Series 4 by the end of the year.

If the watch never lived up to your expectations, why didn't you return it or sell it?

What you wrote about sums it up.
At first i accepted that it was a new device and what comes with that.
Later I considered returning it many times but i had already been waiting too long for something to happen and was always hoping improvements would come (they also did but my watch got even slower... too slow to work well in my opinion)

My expectations for a watch is something you can have all your life or atleast maybe 10 years (at this price)
I knew it was tech so not going to last forever (even thought the future would bring options for internal upgrade)
But i did never expect the watch to be “obsolete” in 3 years like the phones and even phones still work fine after 3 years.

The watch os4 is a bad place to leave series0 watch in my opinion.

The watch have many options and many been there since early watchOS so it is sad having to turn off many of those options for my watch to work well... which means i end up with a product not as smart as i initially purchased.

I am also happy with what the watch does if it did it well but not in my case (would actually rather want it to do less but do it well)
Had the same problem with raise to wake (that is why i use miband and its raise to wake option as watch)
My miband did the same for me with the exercise and standing on my watch it ended up as annoyance for me.
I lost faith in the text alerts long ago.. it is much better now but still like with continuity my watch gives alert sometimes long after i read the message on my phone.
I do not feel i can leave trust of reciving important messages to my watch i would stare at my phone instead.

My D... has same size .. i played around with the pet in school beginning of 80 also.

As for your first post ... do not worry i do my homework before buying tech (also did with series0)
I know the limitations of stratos... they are almost the same now with my crippled series0 (i had to disable everything smart to get one day of battery)
Stratos feels and looks much better than the 179$ pricetag and always on feature is nice and display looks great in sunlight.. like an old digital watch backlight in dark rooms are not great. Its even got gps.
As for Xiaomi and data collecting I can only agree.

Yeah, the OP just replied to a same post 3 times in a row... :D
Sorry i am using an iphone

Im laughing right now reading ths thread,im sure you really like xiaomi, lets us know how it goes after 3 years lol.

I am not afraid to criticize my own purchases that is what i did with series 0 (not apple watch itself ) also I criticized apple for leaving me in the dust with an expensive watch only 2 1/2 years old.
I did have 2 year apple care on it and had i purchased the watch in denmark i belive apple care is 3 years in denmark (i am not sure but everything here has 2 year standard warranty)
I would have send in the watch as defective for sure.

As for xiaomi watch that 179$ watch will last as long as it will last.. as for xiaomi products i have been an addict for several years even back when it was all in Chinese.. how fun my smarthome was back then to figure out.
I have had no faliures on any of my xiaomi products so far and some are more than 3 years now i think

But you’re making it sound like every device should perform optimally and perfectly without issue all the way up until its stopped being supported. That’s how hardware starts showing signs and slows down naturally with progression as new software is developed.

So where exactly should the first generation Apple Watch be no longer supported? Even if it made it to watchOS 5, you likely would still make the same complaint. Support has to stop somewhere, we don’t even know how the first generation Apple Watch would perform with watchOS 5 to begin with.

The first generation Apple Watch was the first of its kind and we don’t know the future support for the other Apple Watch models and how far they will stay supported.

I'm still confused by this whole thread. Before I owned my different Apple Watches, I had owned a Pebble Steel. In its time, it did its function as a notification smart watch. It basically had no other capabilities besides telling time, displaying notifications, and basic music control (there were apps some people made, but very primitive). I owned a Series 0, Series 2, and Series 3 all in SS. The series 0 still continues to function to this day. I actually took it with me instead of my Series 3 on a month long European trip. I never had any issues with all day battery, never missed a notification, and it told the time. It also tracked my activity and fitness perfectly. The Series 0 still does all the functions it was Advertised to do since Day 1. Yes, newer models have gotten newer features the Zero does not have, but that is to be expected.

What features did you think Apple was going to ADD in software updates that propelled you to keep the watch. Why did you think Spotify was going to develop an Apple Watch app when they have not shown any public indication they would?

These two posts totally contradict each other. Care to expand what you really meant to say here?

In addition, if you brought your Series 0 thinking it would have a long support life then that's ALL on you. Anyone who buys this current generation of SmartWatches (e.g. this first round and ones that still come in the next 2-3 years) be they Apple, Google or anyone else, thinking it's somehow going to be faithfully running the latest OS with zero issues in three years time, is, well...

Unless you are exaggerating its failings, it sounds like your watch was faulty; leaving it 2.5 years to complain is odd though.

My original Apple Watch is three years old and, unsurprisingly, it’s not as good as my six month old Series 3. It still gets through the day without going into power reserve though and I’ve regularly used maps to navigate successfully not just here in London but in trickier cities like Venice.

In my case i just want my watch to work as originaly intented before they move on.. i hope for a good final watch os4 Maybe lighter version of watch os4.
As a thank you to all the people who helped apple get ground with smart watches and as good customer service. I think that would be fair atleast.
Thing is apple moved into jewelry business with a watch and atleast people my age would expect more time in a watch than 2 1/2 years. Many spend 400-500$ for a watch that was not very good the first year.
I don't want slowdowns from extra features i think it was wrong way to go for this model.
I want to be able to change battery some time and still have a working watch like with phones.

Internet is crawling with articles on slow apple watch and stuff like that so i assumed it was normal and it would be solved eventually. Ofcourse I think series 0 have improved but still not enough to be as i was expecting ( and hey i am not making unreasonable demands here I do know limits of the watch :)
I did complain actually 1 1/2 year ago and was told to give it time .. a new watch os would come out.
I have been around a lot with this watch and some places better than others when it comes to apple maps but no matter where my navigation is slow and not always usable.

I invested in a watch powerbank case to help solve the problem but i travel with 40l backpack for more than 1 year so have to think carefully what i bring along.. my watch did not make it from bangkok last time and ended in storage so it lost to an extra usb charger in my backpack which is sad.

Back then people speculated atleast 3 years.
Atleast. And then you have the first year full of diseases which i think apple should take into account when in comes to lifespan of series 0. But the lifespan is not so much my problem. My problem is the headline “watch is still not what i thought i purcased”
As watch os4 is now i am not really satisfied when it comes to reliability, speed and batterylife (i only blame apple partialy for batterylife the rest is just lifespan of battery)

This post no longer has any legs. I have a feeling all of this was a lie and some weird ploy for attention.
Definitely the impression I get. I have a series 2. It does everything I bought it for. When it doesn’t get the next OS update, I won’t complain.

That statement doesn't even remotely make sense.

I dont really understand what you mean?
Maybe it is a cultural thing I don’t know.
Do you have confirmation im your country? .. a Christian ritual where you step into adulthood and celebrated with party and presents?
Typical present in 80s was a watch.. my grandfathers generation got maybe a pocket knife or a pipe for smoking. Today kids get new smartphone or mac...stuff like that.
I also got a vcr that lasted me atleast 10 years.

Hey did you read my title? Got nothing to do with the updates directly

We can all agree on the good things about the smartwatch no reason to waste time on that.

So funny how apple tech got human personality.. to criticize the watch i would have to do like you put criticism on humans.. first you spend time telling how wonderfull the watch/people is then you mention in the criticism when people are high on all the compliments. It makes it easier to swallow the bad... do i really need to do with my watch on a forum ?

As someone said i was an xiaomi employee :) you all get paid as Apple employees? If not some should.
When you love something very much.. that much that you join a forum and spend your time there maybe you would have tendencies to overlook some of the bad. Some others may not be very old and short on cash and willing to defend their purchase as a good one to the last drop

So you're upset because you paid a premium for a first-generation product that is no longer relevant? My 2011 Macbook Air demonstrates laughable speeds compared to my 2017 Pro - I'm ok with that because ...common sense. Last time I went to Denmark, there was common sense everywhere (except maybe that weird salty licorice y'all munch on).
Yes it is common sense but not what i am talking about here.

Spotify could do that they are on every other platform.. but basic music control of other services than apples own have been a problem on the watch.
I do not need new funktions on this watch i just want the stock ones to perform well.

When i open maps the wait is often so long i give up. When i look at my watchface complications i mostly see - - instead of temp or sun down and stuff like that which makes it faster for me to get the phone out of my bag and check ex. Temperature there

I got my first watch at age 5 or 6. Wasn't confirmed until my teens. Never heard that a watch, or phone is given to 'celebrate' anything like that.

It is not a must that it will be a watch or now a new phone. But it was and is very common.

My complications work just fine on my Series 0. I swipe back and forth between faces throughout the day and my complications display updated information for calendar, weather, activity, reminders, etc. I'm on watchOS 4, so some things are a bit sluggish, but still faster for the most part than pulling out my iPhone. If I tap the temperature complication, my weather app opens right up. The maps app can be slow to load, but it works well for turn-based directions (pretty much the only way I've ever used it). Perhaps the stock apps are the problem? I use Fantastical 2 for calendar, and both Dark Sky and Carrot Weather for weather. These apps perform well on my Series 0.

The Series 0 was quite fast on watchOS 2 and 3. Swiping between faces was fast, apps opened and refreshed quickly and reliably (including maps), and I almost never waited for anything. watchOS 4 definitely slowed things down a bit, but it sounds like you are having unusually bad problems. You might try unpairing and re-pairing the watch to your iPhone.

Personally I think 3 years is a good run for a smartwatch... especially a first-generation. I've gotten an additional year more than I actually expected. I figured I would upgrade after 2 years (and I probably should have for a better experience). You can't compare smartwatches to conventional watches in terms of longevity (although I have owned conventional watches over the years that didn't last more than a year or two). Smartwatches are more like smartphones. This year I upgraded from an iPhone 6 to the iPhone X. I'd say three years in on the iPhone 6 it was performing about the same as my 3 year old Series 0 Apple Watch. It was slow, couldn't leverage new iOS features, and was often frustrating. Given the current state of mobile technology you can expect to replace your mobile devices every 2 to 3 years unless you don't mind your device getting a bit sluggish or behind the curve. You might get another year or so out of an iPad, but I wouldn't expect even an S3 Apple Watch to be a great experience for more than 3 years from the point of release. Perhaps in 5 or 10 years mobile technology will hit its stride the way desktop and laptop computers did... and we will see people keeping their mobile devices for 5 years or longer.

Was expecting atleast 3 years I got my watch somewhat midcycle so only 2 1/2 years.
Do not think “first movers”
should be punished for helping apple along so the first year of new product should not count .. you did fork out 400$ atleast for something that was useless in many cases the first long time.

Other companys sell developer models at cheaper price ..oculus sold theirs dk1 and 2 cheaper than initial product. And did call it a developer model compared to apple who sold the watch with all of the usual amazing fantastic and incredible words.

Apple is one of the richest companies in the world partly because they do obvious planned obsolescence in my mind.

If you could have your iphone 6 run just as fast as the day you got it (the battery drain and what comes with it taken into account)
Whould you want that? I know i would and so would most people.
Then why does apple not do it? The ios get hammered with new visual effects and other things apple knows will slow down the system (even you turn much of it off)
Why build on an ios version until the phone that ends up with it getting to slow to use?
New phones get new ios version anyway so why leave old ios version cribbeling the hardware that ends up with it.

They made sure you buy a new phone by making battery change a bigger problem than it was.
I accept the improved water resistance in exchange for most people going to phone repair guy for new battery but many just buy new phone and accept it is time for that.

New battery does not help much on the phones speed.
But then they made it not possible to roll back your ios also... why?
Why are they not implementing options to turn off what makes your 2 year old phone get slow in the new ios?

Microsoft had no problems making a new system that was easier on the hardware to make old pc run faster.
I would rather pay for a new ios than getting one for free that more or less ruins the experience on my phone.
Free stuff is never free and comes with some sort of price.. in this case price for free ios is you having to buy a new phone.. but i would rather want to pay the 200$ for new ios for my phone than the temptation of pressing the button to upgrade for free (what don't i do to get rid of that red notification on settings icon)
Give the free ios to new phone and make me an improved old version of the ios i can buy .. or even better and as it should be apple do it for free.

Xiaomi I belive makes 5% on their products apple makes 59% ... maybe they could adjust that a little so more fair between investors and consumers. It would so very very easy make room for older phones to run longer.

It is all computers so what is the difference from a phone computer and a personal computer.
Apple could easy if they wanted but it is all about the money and being the richest tech company in the world still does not seem to be enough.

It stinks so much of planned obsolescence and maybe not because apple ads new features and effects but because they choose not to make options for older hardware which they easily could.
As i can read making a new os cost anywhere between free and billions ... right now apple has almost 300 of those billions and i think it is time to give back some of the money they very smartly hustled from the poor consumers and showered the rich investors with.
Entire generation on planet growing up with the norm that products does not last longer than the warranty at the cost of not only consumer but also enviroment.

I will try again again with the pairing and spend some time testing speed of similar none stock apps.

You should study up on the infamous "Phoebus cartel" before you start whining about this as though it's unique to Apple.

Btw: TL;DR

I have not mentioned it is unique to apple I actually mention the opposite.
You do not agree with what i wrote?
I assume not since you use words like whining .. i dont see any crying smileys in my text.. there could easy be a pissed off smiley because it actually pisses me off when people not only try to but actually getting away with hustling me. Not only agry with apple but also myself for playing along.
As i mentioned earlier apple also build up a fanbase of loyal fans like in here that tend to turn the blind eye... the wise monkeys. Don’t be one of those monkeys.

If you had ever read my posting history you'll see I've been very critical about Apple in many things.

I'm also a reslist. The phrase 'Planned Obsolescence' is frequently overused by folk who don't know what it does - and does not - mean.
