Tried it one time, yesterday at McDonald's. Put my iP6+ up to the reader to pay and ........ nada, nothing. :(

Seems that the 2 credit cards I had put in Passbook were gone. Nothing there.

Not sure I can trust this thing. :(

The only place I've been able to use it is on the vending machines at work. I work at Home Depot and we still don't have the capability at the registers. At least I don't need spare change to grab some Cheetos any more :D

Did you do the secondary verification that some cards require or for those that don't require it, at least receive a confirmation letter/email from the bank?

Oh yes. They were fully confirmed and had been there for a few weeks. No idea what would reset it.

I've gotten negative feedback from all of the places I've tried to use it so far (other than the Apple Store, of course) from the cashiers or clerks, ranging from them simply not knowing what Apple Pay is, to them seeming annoyed that I'd even ask, to one lady at Walgreens even asking me not to use it because "it slows down her register."

It's really disheartening.

EDIT: I should mention that in all places I have tried it and where it's supported, it has worked just fine. Used it at Walgreens a few times, Meijer (self-checkout and gas station), and at the Apple Store itself.

So you've made the common mistake of asking if they take Apple Pay, etc. Just say you want to pay with credit and do your own thing.

And don't go around asking everyone. Use the MasterCard Nearby app to determine if the retailer supports contactless pay then you'll know whether or not to use it.

I haven't had any cashier react negatively to my use of Apple Pay. Most either hadn't heard of it or hadn't had anyone try on their shift but they were game for me to try. All seemed interested in my attempt except at McDonald's where it was old hat so they weren't excited, but they certainly weren't mad either, and at Home Depot where the cashier was not interested. No one was unfriendly though.

Kind of a negative thread title. At first I thought you were an Android or CurrentC troll but I realize you're probably not. It's true that there are many places who don't accept Apple Pay yet but I have had good luck using it with those that do. I love it.

1) I shouldn't have to worry about how places that are partners for Apple Pay will respond to simple questions about it.

2) I've never asked if they supported it, as you are assuming. I've just used it and asked "Have you seen a lot of people using Apple Pay?" or something along those lines, because I'm genuinely interested. That's when I get the "I don't know" or other tepid/negative responses. The Walgreens clerk I mentioned saw me using it (I didn't say a word about it) and cancelled the transaction and asked me to pay with my normal card.

Irrelevant because too many cashiers aren't trained in it (even at places that officially support Apple Pay) and won't know what you're taking about or know to do. That's not really Apple's fault but you're not helping the situation.

Should've stood your ground with that Walgreens clerk. A couple of members was told they didn't actually pay when they in fact already paid with Apple Pay (again due to poor training on the employees' part) but they stood their ground.

I don't recall ever saying anything was Apple's fault. I don't get why you keep making assumptions in what I'm saying/meaning.

Wow, that Walgreen's employee sounds grumpy. What did you do? Was she/he the only cashier? I might have gone to the pharmacy to pay because that would have mad me a little mad. Or, maybe he/she was a Google wallet person.

Apple Pay on my iPhone 6 has only worked 1/3 times I've tried it. Failed at both McDonalds and Subway (both times the phone screen said "hold closer to reader," when I had the phone physically touching the reader!). Success at my local Panera, but only on certain registers equipped for Apple Pay. Hopefully the success rate (even at official partner chains) will improve as they update their hardware.

McDs failed for me with the same message when I held the phone in landscape. Pivoting it to portrait had it go thru immediately!

it looks like target has turned off nfc. I was at target today and nothing happened. Cashier looked at me and said "whats that".

Why would you hold it in landscape? Isn't it cumbersome to authenticate with TouchID in landscape?

The register was shoved in the corner, and it seemed like I would get a better contact with the red area holding it that way. You know, to actually have the top of the phone and it "contact" each other. My thumb reads all directions, that wasn't the issue.

The issue seemed to either be the chip wanted to be in portrait, or something. I basically pivoted it around and it worked. I didn't shift anything up/down/left/right. So the phone was actually not touching the red area when it worked due to the angle.

It was just an interesting observation to make at the time. I realize I have done it at at least a 45 degree pivot each time, never straight up and down portrait.

I thought it might be worth mentioning in case anyone else was doing the same thing.

I dunno! She seemed like she was generally just grumpy. I just paid with my card and asked her why they couldn't accept Apple Pay. That's when she told me the line about it slowing up the register, which doesn't make a ton of sense to me. But whatever-- it's not worth arguing.

Target.com will accept Apple Pay but brick-and-mortar Target stores, no. It's been that way since Apple Pay was launched.

Out of interest, do you have to use touch id? Can you use a passcode instead?

You must use Touch ID. Touch ID is much more secure than a four-digit passcode.

You can actually use a passcode with Apple Pay. Settings > TouchID & Passcode > Slide "Use Touch ID for: Apple Pay" to the off position. You'll then see the prompt "Pay with passcode" instead of "Pay with TouchID" whenever you use Apple Pay.

Then I went to Panera Bread, and I was psyched. They're on the apple pay list...

No dice. They aren't set up for it yet. The guy looked at me like I was crazy to ask -- "nooo, we don't have THAT yet."

I doubt this is what Apple had in mind.

It's just NFC... no one knows what Apple Pay is. Just look for the 'tap' NFC option on the debit machine. Here in Vancouver/Canada, the majority of retailers have it, although it's usually limited to purchases of < $50.
