After a bit of trial and error I was able to successfully wirelessly tether my Mac Pro to my iphone. It was difficult to determine if the connection was working though. Using Safari I was trying to load the gmail login page to test the connection and kept getting the "You are not connected to the internet" page. After playing around a bit I realized that the app will not allow HTTPS pages to load. Any login page I navigated to would not load.

Did any one else have this issue? Any ideas on a workaround?

I'm not able to get to HTTPS sites either; I tried with Google and Bank of America. Hmmm...that takes away some of the functionality of this tool... :(

For those that might be technical enough to interpret this, the error message that I get using Chrome is below:
Error 120 (net::ERR_SOCKS_CONNECTION_FAILED): Unknown error.

Got it before they pulled it from the store, but its not working for me...

I can't get this to work at all. The ftp server won't turn on if I set the port to 5100. I flip the switch to on, then hit the done button... but then if I try and re-open the ftp settings the app crashes. Then if I re-open quasi disk and check the settings, the ftp server is off.

This happens every time I try it, but only if I set the port to 5100. I was able to connect via ftp with the port set to 20000 without a problem.

Any ideas anyone?

Don't tap the "Done" button. This was an issue for me too. It drove me crazy. Finally I read somewhere that you need to leave the Wi-Fi option screen open after switching on the FTP function.

I can't speak to why the app keeps crashing for you but you should stay on the screen with the FTP server setting...don't hit Done unless you want to exit the app.

When setting it up make sure to click the checkbox with HTTPS also. Enter same info HTTP, and this worked.

There may be other settings but in my brief test that worked

That totally worked and makes sense. Thanks!! :)

The only thing I can think of that I can't get to work that I personally use is using Remote Desktop Connection (version that comes with MS Office). I don't see any proxy settings for remote desktop in the network settings and nothing in RDC that I can change that might be the issue. Oh well...I'll keep troubleshooting.

Thanks... I tried that too but it didn't work. I can open and close the settings and have the ftp server stay on using port 20000 (the one recommended in the manual for ftp) but not with 5100... frustrating...

Also, when the app 'crashes", it's more like it just kicks me out onto the desktop... It appears to be still running, since I can access it by double clicking the home button. I was wondering if the devs modified the app not to work with port 5100 the prevent tethering... but now the app has been pulled from the store so that seems unlikely.

OK ... so you had the same issue. I'll try again and double check my network settings on the laptop...

Woo Hoo! got it working. I was entering the address in incorrectly with the proxies. Thanks for the tips everyone, It definitely helped me trouble shoot once I knew that it wasn't a problem with the app.

another satisfied user. thanks to all the posters, a couple of y'alls tips made all the difference!

i'm too paranoid to tether, but i want the safety net.

Also, I'm not at home for me to try this but do we need to turn the HTTP and SOCKS proxies off when we're connecting to our normal home wifi network? If so, it's just a couple extra steps each time I'm on the road and want to use Quasidisk to tether. Not too big of a deal for what we're getting out of it, though.[/QUOTE]

You can save a "location" in your network settings. Create a new location before you make the changes with the proxy settings and then you can just select this configuration when you need to tether and switch back to automatic or whatever you use to connect at home.

reposting because I didn't grab DesertSilver's quote properly...

Having Trouble

I was fortunate enough to get the app but I am having trouble getting it working. I have all the settings right and I am using Safari, but I can get it to work. Please Help!!

I actually don't really understand why people need to download an app for tethering and would like some explanation...

Doesn't the iPhone have a 'Personal Hotspot' feature that lets you share your internet connection? I use it all the time to share my internet so that I can connect my iPad.

So why? please explain.

Not if the Carrier dont want you to have it ... They can control the functionality. That's why some people appretiate proxy/tethering apps. That's why I use a mobile wifi router which make tethering obsolete.

Oh okay, thanks for explaining.

So I guess my carrier allowed me to use the function and others have removed the function.
