If anyone remembers, I made a comment in another thread about Apple releasing products on Fridays. It will never happen. There is no point in releasing a product on a Friday because you loose all of the free press over the weekend.

I'm on the April 15th train.

Just to point out...April 15th is a Friday.

Well this is a pretty big announcment, I doubted it would be today. I was hoping I would be wrong but with no media event scheduled for the launch just wasn't right. I think we might see it a NAB though so only two more weeks.

*Rocks back and forth in the fetal posistion in the corner saying "Just two more weeks, just two more weeks..."*

Hmmmmm Aprils off then.......which means were back to anytime between now and WWDC.

If Apple announce New editions of their pro video apps at NAB (16th April), which require core Video, then Apple won't have a choice but to release Tiger before or in the month of April.
I am not really that dissapointed, it was just announcing a release date anyway. Also i bet Apple are itching to get it out as much as we want it, there are probably so many people waiting to order their Mac with Tiger preinstalled and waiting for the updates to the iBook, eMac and iMac. It will come.

Just a false rumor, no big deal...

We know it is coming soon anyway, since the "pre-release" text has disappeared from the latest builds (supposedly).

Yup that is right, 'pre-release' is now no longer on the 8A428 build of Tiger. It is definately coming out this month so hold tight.

Nah, you announce it at the start of a week so that you can get it into the daily newspapers and the weekend 'tech' sections when more people actually read the newspapers have time to figure out a what slant they want to take etc

Releasing the actual product on a Friday makes sense too. Consumers can pick up their copy and actually have time over a weekend to do the upgrade. r

there's no announcement on april 1 and so the entire month is out?

it'll probably be announced next week, with a release date mid-month

Well hope it comes soon, maby it will come with the iMac's and PM if they come at NAB

I guess this really didn't surprise me when I thought about it.

I mean I know they already have everything else done (packaging, marketing materials, graphics etc. etc. etc. ) and all they have to do is start producing discs, but the thing was JUST declared Gold Master.

Maybe next Tuesday, more likely at NAB, in my personal opinion. Shipping by months end?

Good point, end of the month sounds like it ;)

are ALL of you recent switchers?!?! panther was released on a friday night, october 24, 2003. they had "The Night of The Panther" events nationwide. at my school, if you showed up when it was released, at 8 pm, then you could buy it for $39, full version, until midnight that night. it's normally $69 educational.

chillax, people. yes, it is HIGHLY likely that it WON'T be released on a tuesday but instead on a friday. ALSO, NAB is a likely announcement place. because Mac OS X point releases are highly publicized before their release, unlike everything else, apple doesnt really care WHEN they tell everyone.

Each version of OS X to date has been released on the 24th of the month. Don't see why this should be different.

24th April 2005 - the day of the Tiger.

How much time did you waste yesterday refreshing the Apple home page or hoping to see that the Apple store was down? I was on and off all day LOL.......sad eh? hehe

True, but we are looking for an announcement date, not a release date. Apple announced Panther on Wednesday, October 8, 2003-a little more than 2 weeks before it was available in stores in the 24th.

and also april 15th is the friday before NAB begins, which is the 16-21. if it is released on april 15th, that is a perfect marking ploy from apple -- release tiger the day before a conference, so during everyone but apple's presentation the techies will be playing around with their newly installed Tiger OS :) or atleast i would be. "ahh, screw WMV HD presentations. i'm gonna play with H.264" :)

My assumption would be that Tiger will still be released on April 15th because it is Gold Master and everything. Also think about what would have happened if Apple would have released it when everyone expected because the rumors sites announced it early. Apple wants to surprise us. ;)

Must be Apple getting even with ThinkSecret because ThinkSecret has been 100% accurate with everything they've predicted, right?

Nice thing about conspiracy theories is they can't be directly disproved most of the time. When you find a flaw in one, you can just patch the hole by adding yet another layer of conspiracy. :D
