It really doesn't specify, it just says they will show Quicktime 6, they do mention MPEG 4 so i am assuming they have somehow solved the royalty issue, and at the end they say that participants will be able to use all of the products exhibited, which includes Quicktime. I will try to post the ad later, just to gain some credibility.

The ad

Well, here's the ad. This doesn't sound demo-like. And I have never seen over here a demo of an unreleased Apple product. But make your own opinions about it.

I forgot DVD Studio Pro

Well, the seminar also incldues a demo of DVD Studio Pro, under the main theme of OS X. We will see soon enough...

If they've solved the QT 6 issue, that would be great, I really want to see how the mpeg-4 compression compares to Sorensen.

Is there anyway that licensing for mpeg-4 would be different outside the US? They wouldn't release the software unless it could be a global upgrade?

I really doubt that we will see a release of QT6.
MPEGLA is still resolving the licensing issues, here is the latest new release from them, dated March 28th:
http://www.mpegla.com/mpeg4/news_release28Mar02.html
These sentences are especially indicative of the current timeframe:
MPEG LA’s business relies on the broad acceptance of the license across all market sectors. Therefore, MPEG LA is sensitive to the need to structure a reasonable license consistent with marketplace conditions. To that end, MPEG LA continues to work with the patent owners to assure that the license is responsive to reasonable concerns. MPEG LA will meet with the patent holders again in late April, and will provide further guidance to the marketplace as soon as possible following that meeting.

They can demo it just like they did at Quicktime LIve without releasing anything.

That's too bad. We'll probably be waiting a while for QT6. I'm tired of having to deal with the DivX issues, half the time the mac can't view the files, even after I download the latest version.

If anything happens, it will be newly designed lcd displays, just like the 23 inch cinama display with a silver apple logo instead of the blue apple logo. why else would apple have that display special going on for so long..to get rid of the stock to make room for the minor new design

Some very important MPEG4 support has just come around:

These stories explain how the MPEG4 licensing problem may have been resolved.

I'll call Apple Chile tomorrow.. at least to have some lights if the DVD studio Pro is going to be in Mac OS X as the ad states.. I'll post back with the answer

Sorry, but you're a little of there.
The first article is addressing the AAC audio portion of MPEG4, not the MPEG video licensing.
The second article doesn't really say much, and is full of errors. just look at all the feedback below the article.

Like I posted above, MPEGLA themselves is claiming that nothing definitive will happen until the end of April.

i think we'll just see the release of the bluetooth beta, nothing more. To see QT6 tommorrow would mean that apple would have to forget about mpeg la... there is no way would they have sorted out their licensing issues yet... just a question for someone who knows something about qt, will qt6 allow us to FINALLY play DivX movies in QT properly yet?? (w/o the use of 3rd party s/w)

No... it will not.... you still still need the divx codec to play them.... and it's still unclear if there will still be sync issues...

I really don't know if anything WILL be announced. In fact, despite how sure I sounded in the previous post, I don'tthink QT 6 will be annnounced. I just meant that there is a possiiblity. The only thing that makes me think that there will be some kind of annoucnement about the software they are demoing is the fact that they said that they will let you use every product they showcase. Maybe it was just a marketing dept mistake.

iWalk :)

Just to have it said. I have "proof" that Apple will release a Newton 2 device called iWalk on the 2nd. Yeah April fools to all those who havent gotten that this is fake. But truely I hope they release QT 6 and it will actaully place all .avi files. If not that another software release cuz of that one anouncement that none of the 4 computers will be updated before mwny 02'. At MWNY 02' I see tibook and maybe iBook updates maybe 10.2. I wish I could say the G5 cuz thats my next computer but it doesnt look good. Since everyone ignored my other post. Wozniak is on TechTV tonight talking about his many pranks and escapades and somethin on home entertainment and ur computer.

I don't think QT6 will be ready to release on the 2nd.

It's perfectly ready to release, the technology is complete. It's just not legal.

But QT6 provides a great alternative to DivX, better quality on compression, which would cause greater acceptance (hopefully)

Bluetooth Beta was just released. Go check Versiontracker. I guess that rules out Bluetooth announcement on the 2nd?

please please please please please please

PLEASE be an upgraded powerbook!!!! They have to upgrade before MWNY. So what better time then tomorrow. That's way to long a stretch without some kind of change.

I don't know about the time over there in California... but it's the 2nd here in Switz and in 32 and 11 seconds its going to become the 3rd here. If anyone reads this soon, post a time update for me please!!!

I just hope "one" day we actually "will" see a Newton 2. And I would like to see a new iBook soon at least with a G4 chip inside (my indigo is getting unbearable under OS X). Finally I would like to see 10.2.

It was sometime last year when we got 10.1 . Steve's Mac OS X clock has reached 9 PM, (we got 10.1 at 6) so by the time we reach 12 (which should be soon) we will get 10.2.

i hope it's an announcement about the TiBooks, but most likely it won't be anything big. Or it could just be a wily hoax for April Fools.

fingers crossed...

From what I gather right know its just a Bluetooth "Beta" annoucement  . Oh... exiting!!! (cough, cough, gag, gag, vomit)

The Dualie GHZ just came out and I really dont think theyd want to piss off their customers like that.

If you bought the latest speed bump tower with some sort of idea that there wasn't a REAL upgrade around the corner, you deserve to be disappointed.

That was merely to keep the g4 imac from TOTALLY cannibalizing tower sales.

any info on the April 2 event?

does anyone have any info on the April 2 mystery event? has Apple released a faster TiBook or what? i'm in Australia so i don't know what time it is over there, or if the event has even taken place yet. Does anyone have any info?
