April 26th - New Macs?

I just want iMac and Powermac updates so I can decide which I want then. I want the lowest end Powermac to be dual and at about the same price as the single... that would be my dream :D.

All ship dates going up

ALL iMacs in the US store have suddenly changed from same day shipping to 5-7 days. Draw your own conclusions...

All the ship dates, except for emacs, have gone up to 1-3 days or more.

I want the top model PowerMac to be about the same price as a Mac mini... that would be my dream :p

Yawn...

Honestly, how many of these rumors have we seen in the past month?? I will believe it when I can order it from Apple.

With you on that one...rumor mills are predicting updates once a week and twice on sundays lately...Since Christmas "reliable sources: have advised eminent updates across the line at least 5 times, with nothing coming of it

shipping for iMacs used to be same business day, but now it's "Estimated Ship: 5-7 business days". This is usally a sign that apple will be upgrading their hardware.

If this is true, then apple will soon get more of my business and I'll be earning a lot more points on my credit card =)

Same here. I have two family machines to buy as soon as the upgrades happen. Config will depend on new features and prices.

Regarding the eMacs, although they show a shipping time of 24 hours, if you add RAM of expand the hard drive, the ship time goes up to 2-3 weeks. I would say that this points to an update in early/mid May. I think/hope we'll see iMac and iBook updates on tueday.

Tiger Preinstalled When on New Macs?

I suppose with most of the US Apple Store Online ship dates of 1-3 days or more for most Macs (the single processor PowerMac as well as the eMacs are the only current models listed with Same Day Shipping). With this as a possible prelude to new hardware, at the vary least, I hope it means that Tiger will come pre-installed on new machines sooner rather than later. I told my local independent dealer I wanted to add a Mac mini to my Mac ranch for a test machine as soon as one is available with Tiger pre-installed. How much of a time lag was there between the boxed retail release of Panther and new machines coming pre-installed with the latest OS? Now I suppose they could also be just taking a moment to put a Tiger DVD into the box of the machines currently pre-installed with Panther. How soon do you suppose most machines will be ready with Tiger pre-installed?

probably 2 or so weeks until they sell through the retail stock and include the panther DVD with it.

What to call the Rev B iMac

If the present iMac is called "The All New iMac G5" what does Apple do to announce the Rev B iMac. "The All, All New iMac G5" or "The Newest All New iMac G5" or "The Greatest All New iMac G5...."

Just wondering as I wait to order one no matter what they call it... :)

i'm not such in a rush to buy a new mac. the choice is between the middle imac or the low end powermac. i'm on the fence though on what to believe with the PM updates. i can't see apple giving us 200 mhz in 10 monthes and not much else. we'll see though. the imac updates, on the other hand, are sounding pretty good. we'll see though

If the rumors hold true, then I'd go with the high end iMac. Here's why:

Price for iMac is $1899 vs. $1999 for the low end PM, a dual 2.0GHz G5

The iMac advantages are 20" LCD screen, lots of included software, less desktop space, all for $100 less.

The PM advantage is second G5 processor, faster frontside bus, capability for expansion with extra drive slot, PCI slots, more RAM, and upgradable video. But you need your own monitor, and the 20" costs $999, so that would be $1099 additional with the monitor for the second processor and all that expansion capability, most of which I as a home user, will never use.

Once new products are announced. Will it still be possibe to order the older units of the web site? I know you could go into a store and prob. still get one but they can't upgrade the HD or graphics card there. I plan on getting a single 1.8Ghz PM, but I wanted to wait and see what exactly or if anything tuesday brings us.

Is it just me, or are the apple stores down???????

Edit - you're right, it's my internet. I can't get onto anything except MR and hotmail. What's going on here? huh?

I have waited WAY too long for this! It's tempting to roll the dice and go ahead with an order for a stock 20" today...and watch them upgrade the iMac AND my order tomorrow.

Anyone share this thought? Think it's crazy?

Great idea!

Sounds like an excellent idea. Place the order and report back on what happened...then we can all try it...

I agree. I've also waited a long time. Im getting pretty annoyed with it all now. It seem like every week we hear a "It's going to happen next tuesday!" rumor which makes you wait and then nothing happens but the rumors keep coming for the following week. I personally dont think that anything will happen to the imacs tomorrow but I just know that as soon as I order one, they'll upgrade them. That would be just typical. At this rate, im just going to upgrade my PC and forget it. Im getting bored of all this now. I dont understand why apple are so secretive about it.

WWDC hardware announcements

Apple has stated over and over that WWDC is not what they consider a proper platform for hardware releases.
The HAVE released the G5 at WWDC as well as the GeForce3 cards (Mac before PC.. whohoo).

That said, Apple will release new macs when they are ready to be released.. PERIOD

If that schedule happens to be around a major event, they'll tie it in but they won't hold a release for a trade show if the product is ready. Apple may time a Powermac rollout to coincide with the Tiger release but they won't hold it back till June if it's ready just so they can tie it into a software developer conference.

The only question here is, when will the hardware be ready?

It's definitely this tuesday

I really hope you're right. The only reason I doubt that is because a lot of people seem to base this on the fact that the US Store has a 5-7 day wait for new orders. Here in the UK, it's still "within 24hrs"

I switched to Apple by buying a new PB 17 in late November only to find out 30+ days later that they were upgrading it. I will not be stung again. I don't understand the "marketing theory" of keep it hidden from everyone and then SURPRISE! As you say rumors are reborn when the old one are invalid.

I am planning to buy a new model car and even though it is not due out until Fall, I know the style, the options, the base pricing and it's full features. So what is the need for a big secret with an upgrade to an iMac?

Give us a break and let us know at least when we can plan to spend our money wisely on one of their products. I am very pleased with everything Apple has provided me except for information about future products...
