too bad you can't use one a center channel. I see it ok for music but ill stick to my dedicated 5.1 system

We can only hope for it to get smarter in the future so we can have a (simulated) center channel... Maybe HomePod 2?

Two HomePods in a stereo pair, sound a lot better than a single HomePod. The volume is significantly louder as well. Peter Gabriel’s third album (face melt) is a great album to listen to stereo separation, particularly the first couple of tracks.

I moved both of my HomePods into the living room/kitchen sort of area (wide open) and paired them. Their separation and eq is spot on, if I put my head directly between them the music feels like its in the center of my head not on each ear. However I still prefer them in separate rooms for more of a home filling experience. For a party I would move them in the same room though because its really good....700 dollars good? I don't know about that. Lol

Ive read a few reports that having 2 sounds incredible. Thinking of getting a second. I have a large master betroom. I won’t be able to place them side by side like traditional speakers. One will be toward the bottom of my entertainment center where it sounds good now and the other on top of a dresser about 10 ft away or so. I’m more interested in beutiful immersive sound rather then too much loudness and I don’t want the neighbors complaining. Would love to hear people’s opinions that have 2 in stereo. Thanks

It’s my opinion after just one day having stereo, the homepods are zero compromise when it comes to music, sound is as good as some multi thousand dollar setups I have built in the past... but for home theater , stereo even with homepods uniqueness is still a compromise, you just can’t compete with dedicate discreet speakers... but I decided it’s good enough for me for tv and movies, sounds good , using youtubetv Netflix and amazon prime, I’m happy

I find all of these to be excellent. Even when sitting at my desk about a metre to the left of the l/hand speaker, I can distinctly hear vocalists as being centre stage. When sitting equidistant between the speakers the imaging is extraordinary.

I have a high-end Arcam amp and B&W floor-standers (which the HomePod are now sitting on top of! :)) , which cost about 10 times as much as the HomePods, and I can honestly say that the HomePods/Apple Music combo, whilst clearly not as great as the dedicated system, is really good enough to be my "daily driver".

I may, in the end, decide to sell the high-end kit since I'm getting tired of all the cables and, importantly, speaker size in a relatively modest listening space. Besides anything else, the frequency response of my ears will clearly decrease with my increasing middle age:D

I pretty much agree, disassembled what I had left of my audio equipment and now am HomePod only.... if I had one criticism , it’s the old crap in, crap out thing, they can make bad recordings sound extra bad, only way to compensate is to lower volume

I use to have a 6k lexicon processor with Brytson amps and nht 2.9s .... felt I had achieved nirvana using logic7 with those , the HomePod reminds me of that smoothness, noticed it even before my stereo piece arrived (logic7 is a proprietary lexicon soundfield, it was da bomb in its day
