got my unit back today and it starts with 5k8 so i guess its a refurb ..still has light leak on left side but not as bad overall unti looks good

As noted in the thread, it's been discovered that the 5K serial number is being used on new iPhones as well as possibly refurbs this year.

I got a replacement white iphone today and it looked brand new... when I went to buy something from the app store it had me enter a password, the account info was already logged in to another email... so this means my phone WAS a refurb... any other way to confirm it isnt?

anyways, i dont care if it was a refurb or not, its in mint condition and i am happy =)

I just had my white iPhone 3G swapped out for significant cracking on the back case. Its serial number starts 858, so maybe it is new. It looks perfect, either way. Happy with it so far.

I swapped mine, got 5k8 serial number

Here are the defects I got:

On the left side, the plastic protrudes and is very sharp. You can get a cut from this.

There is one dead pixel that I noticed.

The power button has scratches on it.

Otherwise it looks good.

It is going back today.
