There's a phobia called trypophobia. Look it up and see if the picture unsettles you. I won't post it here in case it bothers anyone. I think it fits in with the genetic memory spider-prey theory.

That always makes my skin crawl. Yuck!

EDIT: 45 minutes later and my skin's still crawling a bit. I have to learn to take these warnings more seriously.
It was the images of skin-holes that creeped me out.
They bite.
Ha! :D

I have an unreasonable fear of heights. You don't know the real meaning of the expression "paralyzed with fear" until you experience a fear like that. You literally can't bring yourself to move.

A friend of mine brought me with him to do some archery practice before deer hunting season. All was going well until he set up his blind in a tree. It was probably not more than 20-30 feet up, but it may as well have been half a mile. I got about halfway up the tree and then my body absolutely refused to let me go any higher. Even after I decided I was going back down, it took a while before I could move even to do that.

I also don't like spiders, but I find it's more about the shock value of seeing one suddenly -- once I am aware of its existence, I'm OK (but I will still kill it if it's inside my house).

...

I can certainly understand why someone may feel that way because even without The Fear™ I've felt dizzy looking down from high rise railings. However in contrast I find heights somewhat exciting but have to fight a really bizarre urge to jump. (I know another member at this forum who described something similar too.) I'm not suicidal but there's just a weird part of me that I have to (of course) suppress when there's no safe way for me to actually jump. When there is a way, such as deep water below, I'm all too eager to take the plunge. Furthest height off a cliff (in lake Mead) was about 50 feet or something near enough to that. That had some pucker factor. I've bungee jumped and I want SO badly to go skydiving.

But images like the trypophobia search brought up? Ewwwwww, hell no!

i have a serious fear of cotton balls. im on the border with q-tips...i can use them wet. im ok with other cotton products tho.

my mom decided to play a prank on me one day. she had bought 10 bags of cotton balls and put them in everything in my house. fridge, bed, drawers, shoes, shower, in the toilet paper, etc. it took me hours to clean it up!! i used a giant trash bag and a big plastic spoon from the kitchen. i scooped each one up individually. she thought it was hilarious. nice mom huh?

Phobias are difficult to understand sometimes. To someone who doesn't suffer the fear that you do it sounds strange and even potentially funny. Even though I know I shouldn't find it funny, the image of someone having to pick up cotton balls with bags and spoons is rather amusing, in a cruel sort of way. I think most peopel have a naturally sadistic side. I hasten to add that I'm not justifying what your mom did because I am sure that wasn't the least bit amusing for you.
