Not just based on the threads here, there has been a few other report on other websites and in other countries. However I would say the very loud noise here was a big factor to generate articles on specialised websites, which then were just copied over by mainstream media.

I personally think the issue is real and Apple deserves a bit of heat for it, but a bit of restrain should be shown before jumping to conclusions and a phone bending is not worth making it to the frontpage of a mainstream newspaper unless it is documented that a large proportion of users are having issues.

But well, this is 2014, Apple gets people excited one way or another, and we are on the internet :)

Macrumors isn't the center of the universe. I'm sure lots of people with the issue don't even know macrumors exists. It's a big world out there.

Agreed, but this forum is one of the largest when it comes to Apple products and many technology journalists would be reviewing it after a new product launch. Also many of the original reports did reference the threads here and published their pictures. So at least on the English speaking internet this site helped a lot for the story to get initial traction.

The reason I asked this is because all of the news outlets and social media are mirroring the images first posted here. I haven't seen any other images except the two or three posted on MR, and the guy bending his already bent phone on youtube. Just makes me wonder.
