When it comes to iPhones, all warranties are a waste of money if you feel there's a reasonable chance you'll never need it.
You see, Apple will replace any iPhone for $200, as long as you can provide them with the (broken) phone. Applecare+ with 1 replacement is $150, so you save $50. BUT, you pay $100 even if you never break your phone. Similar warranties are around the same price, with some being hugely overpriced (verizons deductibles are highway robbery).
Imagine there's a 40% chance you break your phone. This leaves you with a 40% chance to save $50 if you buy Applecare+, but a 60% chance of saving $100 if you don't. Even with these relatively high odds of breaking your phone, not having applecare+ still is the better bet.
There's only 2 situations where ANY kind of warranty makes sense: you're almost sure you're going to damage your phone at least once, or you're concerned with theft. For people who are moderately careful and aren't in an area where theft is a concern, warranties just don't make sense
