I originally got the Verizon 45mm Series 8, but then decided to try the Ultra from Best Buy and am in love with the ultra. I have until October 16th to return the Series 8 to Verizon with the restocking fee, but I have considered keeping the series 8 to wear sometimes as well. What do you all think? Return the series 8 or keep it? I prefer the look of the series 8, but the flat screen and usability/battery life of the ultra. I need to make a decision soon. Thanks in advance.

It makes no sense to have two watches in the same generation. Every now and then I’ll keep an older watch for more rugged workouts and use the other for more dressy activities.

Typically though I just keep 1 watch and sell my old one. Good luck!

I am thinking the other way: Although I like the Ultra, I will not get it, because the watches I already own will vanish in a drawer, because I like the Ultra much more...

Keep the Ultra :)

I have the S8 and ordered the Ultra, and plan to keep both. I don’t want to give up the S8, and I want the Ultra for a few activities

It's definitely doable, as you can pair multiple watches to the same iPhone. Would the Ultra also be cellular? If so, then you'd likely need two separate lines for the watches. Otherwise, you'd be constantly moving the line back and forth between the two.

I bought an Ultra but still use my Series 7 most of the time. I like the Ultra for working out but I prefer my Series 7 for daily use because I hate the Ultra crown guard and I like the smaller size and look of the 7. Plus, the action button is somehow getting pushed in accidentally. It’s annoying.

I added the ultra to my last Series 6 as a 2nd watch.. swapping works better than I expected and I‘ll use one for sleep tracking, different occasions and one for workouts, outdoor adventure, etc. Reselling the S 6 at this point might bring in 125$, but for that money it’s worth just having it as a secondary.

I'm a yearly upgrader since the Series 0 and only use one watch, so the ultra is my main daily watch and have no regrets whatsoever. Battery life alone as a daily driver is worth it.

Using a SE for sleep tracking and Ultra for everything else. It makes a lot of sense to use two apple watches.... never have to worry about watch running out of battery or the hassle of swapping bands. Resale value of older watches are not good anyways, so why not just keep it.

This. I have had two Apple Watches for several years. I’m typically a yearly updater, so last generation’s watch becomes my night watch and the new one is the day watch. My current setup is the series 7 for daytime and a series 4 for sleep tracking. This year, the series 8 didn’t seem like enough of an upgrade for me, but the Ultra did. I am awaiting the ultra, but will likely just add it to my rotation. Series 4 for sleep tracking and either the 7 or the Ultra for the day.

No…

I use my Apple Watch for fitness related activities only. It isn’t an everyday watch for me. So owning two of them doesn’t make sense. I wear mechanical watches in my day-to-day. This is partly due to clothing style, is an easy conversation and networking starter for the type of people I would like to meet, and the other is that I don’t want to see tech outside of work. I don’t want an extension of my phone on my wrist. I used to be into tech gadgets and all of that, but after making a career in the space, I just want to reduce its presence in my personal life as much as I can.

Before the Ultra I did own a Garmin Fenix 6 and Apple Series 5. I am hoping the Ultra can be the replacement for both watches. I may have kept the Apple Series 5 if I couldn’t sell it for much (and just put it in the drawer…), but I was able to find a buyer that gave me enough to part with it.

I have had the Ultra since launch and love it. Previously I was wearing the SS Series 7. Seeing how apple was only giving $155 for the SS Series 7, I just kept it. I reset it to factory settings and got it ready to sell on Swappa or some other site. Just never got around to it.

I have noticed quite a few people have multiple watches for whatever reason. For me, playing golf with the Ultra doesn’t work so well. My wrist bends in such a way that I keep taking screenshots accidentally. I figured maybe I can use the SS Series 7 for golf and for dressier occasions.

Anyone else using both watches? I only have cellular activated on the Ultra. I’m tempted to activate cellular on the SS Series 7 in case of emergency. Just curious what everyone else here is doing who decided to keep more than one watch.

I also understand to some people having more than one watch is crazy so no need for those comments. I get it.

Have you tried switching which side the crown is facing? I’ve seen some people have the crown face towards their hand vs their arm.

as for accidental screenshots, maybe you could turn that off on the ultra?

But how are they in the same generation. The Apple Watch is in its 8th generation and the Ultra is in its first. The same thing can be said for the IPads, there is an Air, mini, regular, and Pro.

The Ultra and 8 are the 2022 watch family. You are paying a premium to have 2 watches that cannot be worn at the same time.

For me I’ve used an older watch (due to bad resale) and the newest one and rotate them - older one for intense workouts, lawn, etc. That’s what I would do but again people are obviously free to do what they choose.

Having both is a great option

S7 stainless steel and Ultra..the perfect combo for my needs

S7 is sleek and classy..goes with any attire
Ultra is the Tudor Pelagos of Apple Watches ..a solid rugged, durable, tool watch

I think the point is that they're both the latest model and both will depreciate a TON in their first year.

I'm only keeping my old graphite S6 SS because it's a nice, reasonably well-specified backup watch with a completely different look to the Ultra. Nice to have. If I return it to Apple today they'll pay me ~ $125 which is not worth it. HOWEVER, if my other watch was an S8 they'd pay me the full $750. If I had that option today I'd be fine without my backup watch! :)

Also, back in the S2 days I had two SS watches (one silver, one SB). It was cool being able to swap them out daily, but I lost twice as much in depreciation that year. Not worth it.

I’ve thought of using the Hermes for a nice daily wear watch and an Ultra solely for workouts/hiking..

That’s what I do. I still find the Hermes watch faces as among my favorites. The Circuit H looks amazing In Sleep mode. Especially with the brighter sleep faces on the Series 7 and newer watches.
