So there is a lot of talk about new iPhone models without OLED which means Apple are backtracking and giving cheaper LCD alternatives.

Me personally I can say the X is not justified at £1150, where at £800 it was already overpriced but I was happy to pay, but £350 more than overpriced phone is not something I wanted to buy.

As I understand it the response for the iPhone X has been poor compared to previous iPhones? Is this fair to say? So as a result Apple will be offering cheaper high end phones?

I would happily pay £800 for a lcd latest Apple iPhone, but certainly not X price. Also many people including me are not happy with the lack of finger print reader and faceid does not do everything touch id does, like sitting on a desk unlocking it at an angle when face is not visible. So in that sense, faceid is a downgrade.

Are the LCD phone rumors as a result of Apple being disappointed with the iPhone X?

The X is doing fine.

Predictions:
  • There will be a Mid sized LCD model to fill the mid - low tier.
  • There will be a new X and X plus (OLED) to satisfy Mid - high tier
  • There maybe be a new SE (LCD) for budget minded.
It's not about disappointment, poor sales or regrets on technology... Apple has a plan and each phone has a specific place in its lineup.

That's a wild conclusion to jump to.

They will probably offer LCD models for the reasons that they offered the 8 and 8 Plus alongside the X this year, to have a lower price alternative for customers who don't want to pay $1000+, and because OLED displays don't exactly grow on trees.

According to the rumors, Apple sold 29 million of them, so if it is true, that would hardly be a failure.

It probably won't sell as well as other flagship models due to the price and other things.

But, even if the X was a failure, I bet that you would never hear Apple say that. Considering Apple doesn't report official numbers of individual phone sales, it could be a failure, and if other models are selling well, they could still have record sales.

Reactions: Newtons Apple
EVERY new product or update Apple comes out with is met with the same criticisms
  • Price is too high for what you get
  • Hardware is out of date and not advanced enough (specs)
  • New features aren't ready or not needed
  • Removed features are missed
  • Software is buggy or removes functionality
  • Summarily declared to be a failure
After another generation or two, then the previous product (once derided unmercifully) is declared to have been the greatest ever in the history of Apple

I agree on the larger “X plus” version. I’m glad I bought my X, I upgraded from a 6+. I honestly thought the 6s,7, and 8 weren’t worth it at all. I mean this screen itself is so beautiful it made the cost worth it. My only negative thought about it, is I wish the screen was larger. I might get the bigger one when it comes out ONLY if the internals are a far leap forward. If it’s anotber garbage upgrade internally, no thanks I’ll wait for 2019.

I'm happy with the screen size of the iPhone X, used a 6+ for several years... I don't mind the size of a large phone... If an X plus exists I will get it.... *IF* FaceID works in any / all orientations.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. The iPhone X is the best iPhone ever made, hands down. I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 4 and haven’t been this excited about an iPhone since the 4. The screen in the X is stunning, the camera on the X is stunning, the battery is great, the device looks and feels great. Asking the the iPhone X is worth $1000 is purely opinion. Some will say it’s too expensive, some will say they bought their family of 4 iPhone x’s and said it was worth every penny.

Not sure about Apple but I am. I was really considering moving from my Se to the X and decided not too. Now looking at a 7 plus and using it till it stops and go from their.

I agree I have the X and I love the phone but hate Face ID, it works halfa** I hope they bring Touch ID back. But if they don’t then I guess I’ll just keep my current X no reason to get the 18 model and have the same sh**

It's easy to forget, but g1 Touch ID (5s) was a little slow and clunky. It got better and more reliable tater iterations.

FaceID works better for me than TouchID. They both have their situations where one will work and the other will not, so that might be a wash. But under normal conditions where either should work, FaceID has been more reliable for me. I still use an iPad Pro with TouchID and a home button every day. FaceID wins based on my daily use of both.

As far as whether the iPhone X is worth it: I think it is for me. I’ve been wanting dual cameras in a smaller than plus sized iPhone, and that was my primary reason for buying the X. The display is beautiful, but I’d be happy with an LCD version. The OLED looks great in all but low light. The LCD screens don’t have the color shift I see on the X in low light.

I’m very happy with the X.

Right but they took a step backwards. If Touch ID was faster then their first gen Face ID. It should’ve never been released until it was better. Or atleast added both for people that wanted to use one or the other. Like when Touch ID came out they still had the pin so you didn’t have to use Touch ID. I realize we still have to pin but that’s definitely to old of technology. We should still have Touch ID

I have said this in several other threads on this exact same topic... for me, the iPhone X does not offer enough innovation to justify a $300 price tag increase. Sure FaceID is nice, but then again TouchID has worked so well. Better HDR screen? The 8 does it so well. Wireless charging? The 8 also has it. Camera system? Already have a good camera with the 7 and 8. So in the end, the reasons to upgrade are not there for me.

All the iPhone X really has is a nice new form factor and almost completely bezel free screen.

Good grief they still make phones with TouchID, so you have a choice. It would increase the price to put both techs on the same device. So they have two different phones. Stop complaining because you made a bad choice.

Two questions, my answer is no to both. I am sure Apple understood the market for a $1,000 phone and planned accordingly. This "disappointment" will likely net them a huge quarter. Is it priced too high? No, not too me. I can see them lowering the cost next year, but compared to the 8 Plus, it's definitely worth the $200 premium. I've been really happy with my X so it ultimately doesn't matter to me how many they sell, although I am sure the stock I have will continue to do well.

Not another it costs too much thread! Can't we give it a rest?!
Reading the forums, YouTube comments, Twitter posts etc, I feel like this is, for most people, the only reason to hate on the iPhone X. I just can’t understand that mentality, I can understand people are upset about the price because 1000$ is a hell lot of money to pay for a phone but at least admit that this is a solid phone overall and a major upgrade from the previous iPhone.

Also, @eyoungren, I know you personally said you didn’t like the iPhone X but at least you gave a solid explanation and a valid reason about why you won’t buy this phone (which is the huge camera bump) instead of just hating on the phone and dismissing all of its killer features because of the high price like most people do.

I am afraid you are in the minority on the Touch ID. Most who have used the X prefer the FaceID. We all know it did not work for you, but to those who own the X, they are happy.
