They all start out tacky and then chill out.

The Apple ones aren't "bad" they just are super overpriced and apple won't replace them.

Apple says the cases are designed to protect iPhone from drops, but what they don't say is a single drop will make the case unusable because of the sharp plastic that is exposed.

I regret throwing my money away at Apple's actual case for the 12 pro, (though magsafe was brand new then so no 3rd party existed). We're only getting 3rd party silicone cases this time.

For whatever reason Apple's iPhone accessories leadership is not concerned about the company's lousy overpriced cases affecting customer dissatisfaction.
Huh definitely seems like it depends on the person because I’ve dropped mine a couple of times and they’re still in great condition. Also apple did replace my case when I had one that did peel so I guess it just depends on which apple rep you talk to/see at the store.

On these new phone designs, the edges of the case overlap slightly. My silicone case chipped on the edge after a few months of normal use. I switched to a leather and have had no issues since.

There are 3 brands selling a lot of great colors in silicone Magsafe on Amazon now.

Don’t waste your money on Apple’s version of the silicone. Or if necessary buy both and be ready to return the apple one.

I keep seeing in the various threads that people have had apple silicone cases that peel and chip and apple won't replace them claiming normal wear and tear.

are they really that bad? they seem popular with many....

I don't want to spend that kind of money on something that isn't going to last more than a couple of months!

I normally buy the apple leather case but I don't like any of those colors this year.
I have used Apple silicone cases since Apple started making them. Only one in the 15-20 cases I’ve owned has had the slightest ding in it after a year’s use. All others have stayed clean and strong. They’ve never lost their grip; they’ve never loosened from the sides. Never had a phone break in one. Never had one dirty (not even white) or fade (not even black). To me, there are Apple silicone cases and then there’s everything else. That is obviously subjective and not everyone’s experience; I say it so that you understand that I would pay twice what they cost now because I value them. I would groan, but I love them that much.

Not sure what to say, both my partner and I had problems w the 12 pro case.

That said, your numbers probably hold because if you read the 1 star reviews on Amazon for the apple 12 silicone Magsafe cases, they almost universally describe the material failures we experienced.

Those make up one in twenty reviews. 🤷‍♂️

I have to agree with this. Each year I get two cases and then switch them from time to time. I did experiment with non-Apple cases a few times, but alltogether definitely had more than 10 Apple Silicone cases. In the past the point of failure was the loose lip on the bottom edge, but since the silicone cases cover the entire bottom, they look like new after a year. There is some change in the material, which becomes a bit stickier, but that's it.

Agreed with the less lint on the posts above. Even with lint, never bothered in the past. Nothing was able to top the silicone in grip for me and if there was lint, I'd just wipe it off.

I'm using the Apple silicone case in Kumquat on my 12 Pro Max. It's the best case I've ever had: protective, not bulky, with superb build quality and great colors. Worth every penny. I don't know why I waited so long to try one!
I love my 12 pro max Kumquat one. But one little area has started to peel off on the bottom right side.
I sort of want to get another silicone case, but not sure if I want to spend the $50.. maybe for electric orange. Maybe 12 pro max cases will be marked down somewhere soon lol

Idk if you've already tried this but definitely contact apple through chat or go to the nearest apple store! As long as it has been less than 1 year since you got it, you should be able to get a replacement! Sometimes they even let you pick a different color lol

Went to the apple store yesterday. No dice, said where it was wasn’t covered. (I was in Dallas, but the actual closest one to me is about 2.5 hours away). I might try chat this week, since it hasn’t been a year yet.

Unfortunately, replacing a case has never been an Apple policy so replacements were based on the store's leniency and the associate you got.

Whats funny (and sad) is that one good experience years ago with a case replacement resulted in me getting AppleCare+ every time I bought a phone. I had a case falling apart, they saw I had AppleCare+ and they replaced it. I never use AC+ but that one time got me thinking that Apple cares. But in reality, they aren't the same company and I really am wasting my money.

Just got a Apple silicone case for my 13 pro. Just wondering what’s the best way to clean it?

Really? A family member and I both got replacements and each time the rep told us all apple cases come with 1 year warranty. But if not, I must have really good luck when I do chat/visit the store then lol

Yeah definitely try chat! It’s weird that it’s so inconsistent lol but hopefully it works for you this time

Yeah, back in the day then Apple would be quick to warranty replace everything but officially, even with AppleCare+, then there’s nothing in the warranty that says they have to. Nowadays a lot of products with legitimate defects are deemed “wear and tear” leaving users stuck. So if you are still getting no-hassle replacements then consider yourself lucky because your store hasn’t started cracking down… yet.

I went through chat trying to get service on a 10month old iPhone 12pro Leather Case. They denied coverage as expected, but what was odd is that they asked if I bought the case with my iPhone on the same receipt. I bought the case separately but I wonder if having it on the same receipt would have made a difference.

(BTW, they also asked me to read them the intentionally impossible serial number from the inside of the case. That was fun.)

Well, at least I bought the case through apple.com, I can't read that serial number 🤣
But, I don't hold high hopes.. unfortunately.

I actually prefer it to be sticky and I have found a way to condition it quickly to make it a super grippy case.

try using baby wipes to clean the case exterior every evening. The wipe it dry and continue using it as per norm. That silicone case in a few weeks will be super grippy!!!!!

For me, I don’t like the texture of the Apple silicone cases. I always go with their leather cases and Caudabe Sheath.
