Crizal lenses

Yeah, you'll save some money there. We actually got a really good deal, told her $360, she said no, so we walked out. She then chased us down lol

The most expensive part obviously was the frames.

Hi there. Did you go into a store to order the frames and lenses or did you order the offline?

My lenses coated with Crizal are blurred and distorted thanks to the material being defective. since I am past the one year, very brief for a protective coating, warranty, I am forced to pay the $300.00 for new lenses. The Crizal is 'sheeting' or 'running' like waves down the lenses and cannot be removed! I would suggest only paying for coatings with a lifetime warranty....PERIOD! Crizal is a RIPOFF!

Crizal is a RIPOFF!
I've been happy with mine. The coating has lasted years, and in fact it's outlasted my glasses which broke. They were 3 years old and the coating worked perfectly.

I'd say the coating on yours was defective, did you notice anything prior to the glasses turning one year?

Crizal lenses are supposed to be warrantied for 2 years. What coatings did you get?

I'm currently wearing a pair of glasses that are 5 years old with Crizal lenses. I've had them on my last couple of sets of glasses, and have been quite happy.

In any case, at my two-year eye appointment after buying the current pair I'm wearing, the doctor advised me that I had a small enough change in my prescription that I didn't really NEED new glasses. Instead, I opted to cash in on the 2-year warranty and got a fresh pair of Crizal lenses(same presecription) that I'm still wearing.

Hopefully later today, I'll be picking up a new pair that are virtual carbon copies of my current pair except with my most current prescription(from about a month ago). They're in the same frame model number(since I've been very happy with the current ones) and have whatever the current Crizal coating is. It would be nice if I got another 4-5 years out of them, although even two is great.

I had no coating on the lenses right before my first Crizal set, and I was virtually blind in night driving(to the point where I avoided it) with those due to the extreme internal reflections in my left coke-bottle lens. A combination of higher index lens material with a good AR coating(Crizal just because that's what the optician I use sells) has helped my night driving vision be as good as my day vision.

BTW, I've had great luck cleaning with a DRY cotton t-shirt. Ideally you want no fabric softener, but even one with softener will do the job. If mine get dirty during the day, I've been known to just use the tail of my undershirt to do a quick clean-up.

Yep, never use water.
I always use water, just to avoid the risk of scratches.

As I mentioned my glasses broke, so I need to make another appointment with the eye doctor and get a new perspecription. Crizal is will definitely be worth paying for. I'm seeing a huge difference now, as my old pair does not have the coating.

Crizal lenses should never scratch if you use a dry clean cloth (without water) to clean your glasses.
I know, but its something I'd rather not take a chance - not for nothing, my old lenses were scratch free.

That Doctor's office should have offered to re do your lenses without any charge. I had a problem with my lenses one time and they had my lenses remade for no charge.

I've used Crizal and other lenses and haven't seen a major difference. For my last pair of glasses, I went to Costco for the first time, saved a lot of money, and been very happy with the result. I've also found that suppliers are generally very responsive when it comes to replacing defective lenses.

Some people say they are harder to keep clean some say they are easier, is it the coating or the way people care for them?

This forum is a JOKE!!!! maflynn and macnut are just one example that these are phony posts since they come from two different states but have the identical response. REALLY????????

They have 4 different coatings and I am wondering if I need to get the most expensive one.

Crizal Prevencia
Crizal Sapphire UV
Crizal Avancé UV
Crizal Alizé UV

But I'm just wondering if all Crizal lenses, are made in the Crizal lab or can they be made by that doctor's office or whatever lab that they use to have their eyeglasses made by?

The coatings are made in Esselors lab and sent to who ever cuts them.

Just because you disagree with my opinion does not diminish my opinion one way or another. Judging the forum by a single thread in the community forum is not the best approach either

So I will be going for my yearly eye exam and I will be changing out my lenses this year. I have gone the Lens Crafters route for years but don't really care for their lenses. I was thinking about switching to Crizal are they really better?
I have had my latest pair of Crizal lenses for 14 months and they are crazing, which affects my vision in sunlight. If I were a vampire this would be fine, but I'm not, and it's really disappointing that neither Crizal nor my eyecare professional will stand behind their product since I paid a hefty sum for these lenses and after 14 months they are useless. Look for an alternative, but don't buy Crizal.

I agree with you. After 14 months my lenses are crazing, which does affect my vision in sunlight.

They're all Luxottica. Almost every eyewear brand and coating type is under Luxottica. They've acquired and merged with so many companies that they control the eyewear market.

Essilor is not a luxottica company.

Wow just read about that. I wonder how it will get past regulators. And could this mean Lens Crafters will start selling Crizal.
Not just Crizal. Transitions, Varilux, etc. There's also rumor they want to acquire or merge with Zeiss Vision and Trivux... I think I butchered that last one. I've got some Olivers People from before Luxoticca acquiring them. I figured the quality would go down. Now just to be careful with them.

I believe they already have a license for transitions. Or at least some form of it.
