Are iOS 8 features unnecessary for "mainstream" users?

Though I love tech I consider myself a "mainstream" user, and I haven't been so excited for an iOS update since iOS 5 came out.

1) Answer texts or emails from the notification bar

2) Request desktop version of a website

3) Group message management features

Those three features alone make iOS8 a must-have-day-one update for me. Sometimes all it takes to make an update great to an individual is just a few key features.
