I haven't heard about the "silent tweak", could you please explain this? Is it a design or hardware change or just a software upgrade?

Hey the "silent tweak" was made to the RMBP's 15" they made the heat distribution on the inside of the laptop a little better, since it got hot when you were gaming or running intense applications. This message was on the front page of macrumors under the iMac section a couple months ago.

Mine developed IR and a stuck pixel after about three months.

Took it to Apple store Genius Bar today. I showed them the ghosting and there were no questions asked. They just said they will replace the display which they have in stock - I should have it back in 3-5 days. :D

They told me the replacement display panels are not from the same manufacturer and that the new replacement units are free of the ghosting issue. We shall see...

I'll report results back here when I get it.

My new BTO rMBP is due for delivery on Thursday and have decided that if it has an LG screen it's being returned same day -never mind running tests etc. My experience with LG screens over the years has been dismal. LG may be able to produce and development cutting edge displays but they cannot seem to manufacture them on mass as well as Samsung can.

i hope apple didnt resell that, mine came with 3 charge cycle, and thinking they are reselling the returned item. since mine is LG screen

Well my rMBP turned up a day early - seemingly part of the journey, between Germany and Northern Ireland, must have been completed by particle beam transfer judging by the UPS tracking record!
After checking the exterior I booted up and run the test for LG or Samsung display..........SAMSUNG :D and after inspection no dead pixels to report :D

Had Apple replace my LG screen with IR. Then I got back my rMBP with a Samsung screen... after 1 try. Not sure why anyone would have to go and exchange a whole computer...

I think it's worth noting that many others and I have found that it takes about 3 months or less for IR to show up on our LG screens.

I was a skeptic at first, but mine showed IR after exactly 3 months.

Yeah, I was also a skeptic. I never tested for it, and never saw anything. I still haven't tested for it, but recently it has become obvious. For example when surfing for a while and then playing a youtube video, if the video has many mid tones, the chrome from your browser will stand out quite clearly.

I am just glad my rMBP came with a Samsung because after all I have read here and on other forums the LG display problems are real and true.

I would think resell value of LG display models will also be worse with savvy buyers tuned into what "problems" to look out for.

just bought one yesterday came with LG, ran retention test for 20 minutes. No problem at all, hope it wont show in a few weeks.

I never paid much attention to any of the ghosting issues, but 6 weeks in, I'm starting to see it.

It wasn't doing it at first... still isn't a huge deal, but its definitely there!

So I got it back yesterday after only one day at the Apple store :D

They replaced the panel with a Samsung and it's now perfect. No IR whatsoever!

So anyone that is worried about it, you shouldn't. Apple will take care of it if you have the problem.

I took my MBPr in for a genius appointment today. Apple are obviously aware there is an issue, as the genus plugged it in to their network, loaded the diagnostic software and low and behold - ran the "Image Persistence Test" - it was a checkerboard pattern and then a very dark grey background.

They leave it displaying for 4 minutes and then check to see if any image persistence is visible on the plain dark grey background (Did they get the test from macrumors!?!)

Any way, mine failed and is having a new display fitted :)

What I find interesting is that the test exists in the apple store, its 4 minutes and then a fail if visible.

So if any of you have image persistence after less than 4 minutes - take it in and get the screen swapped!
