Just got an iPhone XR, and granddaughter talks me into Apple Care instead of getting a screen protector. Should I get one anyway? I had the “glass” type on my iPhone 7 and managed to chip the edge.

The reviews on these glass offerings from Apple (Belkin I think) weren’t the best. I’m worried about scratches but I’m not sure how durable the screens are now days. Thanks.

Yes, absolutely. I use ballistic glass full cover ones from amazon.

From watching some videos looks like the pro screen scratches easily. I wouldn’t leave the Apple Store without a screen protector.

I have used glass screen protectors on all my iPhones. I don’t see a reason to not use them. They are cheap and easy to install, and do a great job of keeping the iPhone screen from getting scratched.

This was not my experience. I had my 11 Pro since launch day and had it in a ESR case no screen protector, kept in back jeans pocket. Last week I purchased a ESR full screen protector and before installing checked for any visible scratches finding none installed it and absolutely no issues. I put it on because I have been known to drop things, not for worry about scratches.

I always use screen protectors. After years of “small nicks” showing up over time, I decided to get something that can be swapped easily if it becomes scratched. I baby my phone without a case. My screen, however, is too sacred to leave unguarded.

Yes. I get mine from upscreen - specifically the Matt ones. So good I got one for the Tesla too!

Definitely get a screen protector. Check out Spigen. They have the easy application set up works great.
I used a Spigen on my XS Max it lasted for a year a week before I got the 11 Pro Max.

I use the Spigen one and theres no visual difference on the screen to me with and without it, so might as well keep it on :)

It’s good to have them especially the glass ones for viewing purposes and protect the screen of the phone oh, and a nice case.

I don’t use one. I have a 8+ which went into wallet case straight from the box, only comes out from it for occasional cleaning. However I don’t keep any cards or stuff in the case pockets, just the phone.

There are no visible scratches in glass, some hairline scratches which can be seen with a bright flashlight. A good case will go long way, even without the screen protector.

I absolutely hate screen protectors. They either have glare or catch my finger when swiping from the sides and top/bottom of the phone. I’ve always gone without them and the worst issue I’ve heard are a couple of micro scratches that I would only notice with the screen off. I have Apple Care and if I were to ever have major damage, I’d get a replacement.

To each his own, but I’ve never used any screen protectors for any of the iPhones I’ve owned since OG iPhone.

What’s a screen protector?😁 No, seriously, I think Apples displays are plenty capable of withstanding every day minor encounters. I’ve sold _all_ my iPhones in excellent condition with the displays over the years. No issues whatsoever.

I get mine at Five Below and they work like a charm. Have kept all my screens over the years in mint condition.

This doesn't make sense. Apple doesn't change a thing about their coating and people say the same thing about scratches every year. Some people get them, some don't. It's not something you can predict for each one.

Call me a risk taker, but for the first time, I’ve gone without a screen protector.

Had a Belkin one on the X for the first year of ownership, but its thickness (nearly matching the height of my case’s front lip) & black borders covering parts of the screen edge made me remove it.

I’ve gone naked for the last 6 months, & have micro (more like nano) scratches, which used to bother me, but don’t now, as they can only be seen under light at certain angles.

Maybe I’m being stupid, as just one deep scratch will make me regret removing the screen, but I love the feel/grip of the phone without a screen + my minimalist case. The combo’s too good to let go. ;)

I tried not to use any screen protector on my XS, and after 9 months I sold it without any visible scratch. But as Apple is trying to make the iPhone glass more durable (against drops, mostly) the same glass is more prone to scratches, so I bought the belkin, installed at the Apple Store.

I use a carbon case with no lip so use a screen protector, re sale is better to with as new condition.

I use my phone without any screen protector since I bought it last year and so far its all good. I even take out my leather case 2 months ago and my phone is still like new and all naked. I say if you always put your phone in a clean pocket you don't realy need a screen protector.
