I usually use a case and screen protector when I first get the device and baby it, then after a short time go completely naked because it feels better in hand and so I can enjoy the design.

With my current X I used protection longer because I change phones without owning them for a year and wanted to maintain higher resell. But I've still got it and been using it naked for the past 6 months. At first I just took the case off, then the lip of the screen protector got to me so took that off. My screen has a few micro scratches and one long scratch (jean rivit?) I can feel but not see when using. No regrets, it's a device that gets heavy use each day and I have a more enjoyable experience without anything on.

Zagg HD Glass.

I returned a 6S and 7 to Apple Store last weekend. Both phones I had since release. When rep pulled the screen protectors off, the glass did not have one scratch. Pristine as day one and I got my full value of $220 for both.

When my screen protectors get a little too scratched up I ask for a replacement for $5.99. I replace my screen protectors once or twice a year. Zagg asks no questions, just to return the old one.

it’s not like a Samsung G10 where your fingerprint security ID won’t work if you put a screen protector on, so why wouldn’t anyone want to put one on, when you can’t even tell it’s there once it’s on, is beyond me.

Screen protectors are insurance, and like all insurance you don’t need it until you do as @Ralfi alludes to. It’s really up to you, I’ve used the Spigen GlassTr on the last 2 iPhones and not had any issues with them at all. Just make sure that you get one with an alignment ‘jig’ to ensure that the screen goes on perfectly.

And don’t put one on upside down as I did once when I was in a hurry! 🙃

I've always used glass screen protectors and over the years I've had to replace a few, but my screen on resale time is pristine. I've never had a screen protector scratch the screen, I'd say someone didn't install it properly if that is the case. They do exactly what they are designed to do. Just get a decent one with the installation guide and install will be a snap.

I think the next big thing with screens is to make them much more scratch resistant. Gorilla needs to up their game here - they’ve had micro-scratch prone screens for far too long.

I always use protectors. Mine normally survive without damage but my wife and kids protectors normally take a fair bit of abuse. I’m using a SpiGen EZ Fit On the 11 Pro and think it’s the best one I have had to date. No noticeable change in the touch feel and it comes with an applicator guide, no bubble issues in install etc. And cheap on amazon.

Since I often have to carry my iPHone in a pocket I use a screen protector. It doesn't seem to affect the picture, etc. and worth the cost vs having to replace the screen.

I’ve always used screen protectors on all of my devices since I don’t want to got through the hassle of getting the screen replaced if something were to happen . Screen protectors aren’t even expensive, so it might be a no brainer to protect your 1k+ device .

I have not used a screen protector on my 6s+. After 3 years it appears the oleophobic coating has quit doing its job. I'm not sure if a screen protector would have helped or not. At least it could be easily replaced (I think). I don't notice scratches on the screen and I keep it in the hip pocket of my jeans.

I got AppleCare for my phone, but still use a screen protector. I don't wanna pay the premium to have the screen replaced unless I really have to.
I get the full front coverage ones from Amazon (they're usually sold as a 2-pack and like 1/3 as expensive as Belkin ones sold as Apple. They also now come with a plastic frame that you put on the phone when you install it -- so that you can align it easily.

I haven't used a screen protector since the 3G: I took that one off shortly after installation because I hated the way it looked and felt. On most of the ones that I've seen, I can see the edge, and a thin line of crud has built up around the edge. I only use a case when doing physical activity like running, working out, yard work, etc. When I'm in the office or just out and about, the case is off.

I've always gotten the full quoted value for my iPhones when I resell, and I inspect them closely under a bright flashlight and under sunlight before selling or trading, and I don't see micro scratches.

Today, when I traded in my XS Max (that I've had for a year) under the iUP at the Apple Store, the Apple rep inspected the device and asked, "have you even USED this? It looks like it's never been taken out of the box!". When I told him I carry without a case almost always and don't use a screen protector, his jaw dropped.

YMMV. I know that many others use them to good effect, but I just don't like them.
