Are the 4 inch screen naysayers convinced?

I wanted a 4" screen, and I'm very glad it's 4". I love the extra size, but any larger and I wouldn't like it. It's just at the border of one handed usability for me right now, and is slightly more awkward to use. Even a 4.2" would be enough to push me over the edge. And yes, I'm saying that if the 5S is a 4.5" device, I will not upgrade.

I have wanted a larger screen for years, this is an improvement, but I would have liked more width. The landscape keyboard still isn't large enough for my liking, I have large hands, and a 4" screen with a vertical increase only is better than nothing, but i'd rather have more width or a 4.3" with this height and more width.

I really like it. I've wanted a bit larger screen for awhile (after 40 you start to need reading glasses :( ) and this is a nice change.

Does the larger screen really help when most things can not be enlarged. I guess text or zooming would benefit from a larger screen for people with poor eyesight. Is there other things that one with poor eyesight could benefit from other than what I have listed?

Yeah, you're pretty much right. It's not a huge improvement but I believe it is an improvement nonetheless. :)

What do the women with small hands (or girly men) on here think of the enlarged screen? I'm afraid my wife is going to think its too big (which wouldn't be the first time she said such a thing!)

My wife finds the phone a little too tall now. She can't dial one-handed, either, anymore, like she could on her iPhone 4.

I was very skeptical of the larger screen. I look at Android phones and I wonder how people can stand trying to jam those honkin things into their pockets. To me a phone should be compact and should not be a burden to have on me.

That said, the iPhone 5 is a pleasant size. My 4S seems overly small now. Apple found an excellent balance in size.

After the iPhone 5 release, all I hear about is how revolutionary and beautiful the new screen is.

It's definitely nicer than a 3.5" inch screen in my opinion, but I haven't heard one person call it revolutionary. Since when is a 4" inch screen "revolutionary?" Considering Apple is one of the last to the market with a larger screen.

Well, coming from an Android, the bigger screen was what I've been waiting for to finally make the switch!

I think it's fine, but the choice to just increase the height and not the width always baffled me. I know they like to tout around the idea of it being usable with one hand, but think about it: an increased height is worse ergonomically than increased width. If you hold the phone normally, you will clearly see your thumb can go to left and right quite a lot farther than where the iPhone screen ends currently. It is when you have to reach higher up with your thumb to touch the top of the screen it starts to get uncomfortable because you must stretch your thumb or re-shift your hand position. I think Apple could have easily gone the height they did and increase the width to make an overall 4.3" diagonal display and it would have been perfect. People would have gone crazy with excitement.

I am not convinced. I like the 4" screen, but I would have greatly preferred a 4.3" screen with the same height that was slightly wider with a smaller bezel (border). I am not a fan of the 4.7-5.0" screens, but I think Apple could have made the screen slightly larger while still maintaining 1H usability for most people.

I couldn't agree more with you. I'd love the iP5 but due to the narrow long screen I'm out, killing me for sure but I can't tolerate the small screen.

Would live to see a 4.3 inch screen with same thickness and zero bezel. Anything beyond that is too big for one hand use. IMO.
