It doesn't appear that a 4" iphone 6 will appear.
I do not consider 4.7" iphone 6 to be one-handed, which I find to be my usage pattern. The mockups make it as big as a galaxy s5 or htc one.

Any advice on how you've made the transition to carrying a phone that doesn't fit nicely in your pocket and requires two hands to use alot of the time? I feel it's inevitable so trying to hold out is a futile attempt at this point. Did anyone else swear by one-handed use and then somehow discover that it's not a big deal anymore? I've tried bigger phones and haven't yet appreciated them because of the what I perceive to be poor ergonomics, but it appears that I've got little choice but to adapt now!

Too subjective. IMO, the 5.5 is clearly a "No can do.". The 4.7 however, is very dependent on hand size. I don't think width will change enough on the 4.7" to be an issue. The main growth from what has appeared is vertical growth.

That could be a problem for pocket holders. :apple:

For those who still adore the 4inch iPhone and are worried, you may want to give this week's The Talk Show with John Gruber a listen. He runs through some interesting thoughts about what might happen at the next iPhone event.

Um, unless you have small hands, these 4.7" phones are great for one handed use.

I use my Nexus 5 one handed all the time.

It also fits nicely in pockets without a problem.

It's only women's jeans that I noticed having a problem with holding phones.

You do realize that your personal experiences don't necessarily represent everyone else's right?

apple could incorporate a one handed use mode like the note 3 and s5 have...i frequently use it and it works very well. A simple swipe from left to right activates it, and closes it. It basically minimises the screen so your thumb doesnt have the navigate to the corners of the screen.

You know us women are 50% of the population right. If you include children us small handed folk are the majority.

Screen size is paramount. If your screen isn't big enough to use the features of the phone properly, then it doesn't matter if you can use it one-handed or not. I can use my cigarette lighter with one hand, but I can't surf the web with it.
On a less sarcastic note, I used to web browse for hours on my iPhone 4 and had no problems with it. Perhaps due to age, or maybe it was web browsing on the i4 that caused it, but my eyes struggle with the iPhone 5 screen now. Sure it's ok for light use but my eyes get incredibly fatigued when I use it for longer periods. For me, a larger screen is absolutely necessary and I don't care if I have to adjust how I hold and use the device as a result. One can't have a larger screen without having a larger device, it's a matter of physics. There are plenty of smaller phones out there if size is your chief priority. OK they might not be top of the range premium smartphones, but smaller phones still exist.

I hear that, but if it is too big that I avoid carrying it, other than when I know I'm going to use it, it not much use then either.
To be fair apple could get rid of all this angst if they offered choice, but I don't see that happening.

I'm a woman with fairly small hands and I use my iPhone one handed frequently. Anything bigger and I'm sure I won't be able to reach the whole screen with my thumb. I'm not looking forward to a larger iPhone.

What are the apps that you use with one hand all the time? Do they require reaching the top? Do they support the back swipe yet?

There are ways around having to reach everywhere. For one, it's quite possible that Apple will enable the Touch Id sensor as a trackpad.

I have an iPad Mini for when I want a larger screen.

Good for you, but most people don't carry an iPad with them :)

Apple is just doing the best it can to keep the most people happy. It is not easy and there will always be some who are not happy. I do think that they will offer a 5S screen size for a while but not sure how long.

Yes, the 4" form factor is doomed and all of the dinky screen lovers will just have to come to terms with it. You can moan and groan all you want, but it will be for naught.

Maybe your eyes are too small. I have no problems reading a small screen, and my experiences are representative of everyone else.

glad you responded for me

True, but there are plenty of women who love oversized phones (e.g. Note, Galaxy mega etc).

I wouldn't want a phone that big unless I'm playing a game or watching Orange is the new black on the way somewhere.

For those times I'd just get a tablet.

The point really is that for everyone who's using the "4.7 inches is fine unless you have small hands" comment as a point of derision against those who aren't particularly fond of bigger phones is annoying and ignores the fact that not everyone has the same experiences/desires as others. 4.7" may be fine for you; it may not be for others. Acting like everyone should have the same opinion as they do on the matter is silly.

I really hope not. 4.7 is large for a phone, too big to carry in your pocket in my opinion. And as a guy, my phone is always in my pocket. I'm not gonna carry a murse for it, I'm not a girl. Phone size doesn't matter for girls since they have purses.

Also, imagine how funny people are going to look holding their phablet sized iPHone 6's with 5.5 inch screens up to their ears to talk to someone - I look forward to the memes =P

One, yes that is only his opinion but the way it is stated was as if it was a fact. Besides, from the content of the first post, the OP has obviously tried using bigger phones but hasn't found them comfortable to use. Is the OP's opinion and personal experience wrong then?

Another thing, what's wrong with being female or having small hands or just plain wanting to have smaller phone options for a host of other reasons? I'm not saying that a bigger iPhone is a bad choice for everyone. I'm just saying it's a bad choice for me personally and I'd like it if Apple gave us a smaller option with up to date hardware.

As a guy, I like the 4" for one-handed use. My hand isn't big enough for a 4.7 :(. So power to those girls haha. Why is girls in quotes?

It's just a habit I had in the Air Force. Whenever someone I worked with referred to women in our workplace as girls, I'd tell them that they were women, not girls. It kept them out of trouble. :D

Ahh gotcha. I just use girls to mean women. I use boys/guys to mean men. When I get older maybe I'll switch over. But for now.

But yeah, I for one am not happy about the larger screen phones :)

I can easily use Nexus 5 with one hand and it feels easier than 5s as it is better to hold. A phone is not only for phone calls or texting anymore. It is only natural that the use then will switch from one handed to two handed use. That said, I used my Note 3 one handed and I have normal sized hands.
